PERSONALITY
BACKGROUND brooklyn, new york to seoul, south korea ? your average new yorker to lead rapper of the next big girl group ? allow me to explain. haneul's mom's hometown was also brooklyn, but she moved to korea around age 14-15 to be a trainee, and she debuted in 1993 as a soloist at age 17, hitting the kpop world with a bang due to her outstanding talent. sanggi did nothing but gain more popularity as the years went by. at age 20, she had the opportunity to tour in new york, her hometown ! there, she met hyunjoon, and the two hit it off - they dated for a year before they got married and sanggi had haneul at age 22. for those first two years of their relationship, the couple was in korea, but sanggi wanted to raise her child in the same place she was raised in, so she took some time off of her career to move back to brooklyn with her husband ( who is actually from seoul. remember, he travels ! ). haneul grew up in brooklyn until about 4th-5th grade, then her parents decided to move to korea permanently. when haneul turned 5, sanggi decided she should slowly start going back to her career, and she was rarely ever home. hyunjoon was home only a bit more than sanggi was, since he traveled quite a lot due to his career as well. it's probably because of all this time she spent alone that haneul became so independent. well anyways, the parents decided moving to korea would be the best decision, because then haneul could at least stay with sanggi as hyunjoon goes on his business trips. and so, to seoul the family went. the move was definitely hard for haneul, since she had friends to leave behind, butmeh whatever since it was just elementary school, it wasn't too big of a deal. haneul still keeps in touch with those friends, more or less.
haneul had always liked kpop since a young age, even before she moved to korea. she knew what her mom was and she had lots of 'uncles' and 'aunts' who treated her well, but that's kind of besides the point. how did she find her passion for rap and music, you ask ? well, words had always just come easily to haneul for some reason - she found herself not suffering in the poetry unit at school and essays weren't too big of a problem. as she grew up and started becoming more aware, haneul started listening to the lyrics of the songs she listened to. she started listening to the music, to the beats that flowed, smooth like velvet. she started listening, and then she started doing. haneul found herself leaning towards rappers who rapped about concepts she liked - corruption of society, following your dreams, etc. she found herself wanting to say the same things her own way. she found herself writing lyrics in her pasttime. she found herself purchasing a maschine and learning instruments. she found herself a passion - a passion for music. who knows when it started? she just knew it would never end.

TRAINEE LIFE haneul had always been into kpop since a young age. she's been a fan since all the big bang x wonder girls, snsd x 2pm stuff, and she's seen it go through it's ups and downs firsthand. it'd been discouraging to find out about all the corruption behind the scenes, but as real as that was, she knew something else was, too - the love from the fans, the thrill of being on stage, the passion some had for music. she, of course, was reached out to by many companies, but amongst them all, only one stood out. bighit always has the same intro at the beginning of their music videos - those weird white balls and their company name with this phrase underneath - 'music for healing'. it called out to haneul because that was exactly what she wanted to do - she wanted to use her lyrics and music to give messages and say things that couldn't be said through simple spoken word. she wanted to touch people's hearts. she wanted to change a life and do to others what music did to her - give her motivation, strength, acceptance. bangtan was also a huge part of why she went to bighit, because she was in love with their rebellious hip hop concept. but ok anyways so she gets in because not only is she nam sanggi's daughter, she can spit a rhyme or two. although not all the evaluators and teachers were biased to her, enough were for her to get past monthly evaluations with hardly a problem. she hated it. she knew they only wanted her because of the publicity and the support they'd get, and the other trainees knew it, too. she was left out, isolated, talked about behind her back. "she thinks she's all that just because her mom is nam sanggi" "is she even actually talented? she's probably cheating through the monthly evaluations" "ugh, she's so fake. always acting so polite to the staff and not even bothering to talk to us" it took a huge toll on her mental state and no amount of lying to her mom about how great it was would change anything. depression was creeping on to haneul, but her reason to wake up everyday was her desire for the stage and her love for her music. it was the only thing that kept her going, even through the indirect bullying and the constant put-downs she gave herself for continuously thinking she wasn't enough. thinking she didn't have what it took to be noticed for her talent alone. thinking she never would be recognized for her talent alone, and beating herself up over it. the first year of her trainee life was honestly more mental pain than anything, even thogh it was physically pretty vigorous, too. and then came trv. the announcement had been made quite a long while ago, and haneul was one of the last members to join. for a few days, haneul was even more depressed, because now it was real. she was really debuting, and still no one took her seriously. and tHE GIRLS, OH THE GIRLS. girls had always been scary to haneul because she knew how savage they could be. and haneul wasn't looking forward to anything, given how infamous she already was amongst the trainees and how intruding she felt as one of the later members to join. but these girlsOH THESE GIRLS were different. from the small bunch of trainees who she constantly heard smack-talking her, there were only about zero of them in trv. in contrast, haneul felt like she was seeing all these girls for the first time. they were all fairly nice, not really seeming to care about her connections or whatnot - but it was a lack of care in a good way. there was jiwoo, who reminded her so much of nahee. there was [ main rapper ] who taught her about 85% of everything she knows, there was [ main vocalist ], who haneul was always admiring due to her skills, there was, above all, love. the girls all knew that the other 5 girls were the people they'd spend pretty much the rest of their lives with, and there was basically nothing they could do about it. without even herself knowing it, haneul slowly fell in love with trv. all the girls definitely had very different personalities that clashed at times, but their love for music allowed them to combine all their different charms and come together as a group. over the year, the girls grew closer and closer, and haneul's been able to build such deep relationships with all of them, thanks to the good memories they gave her to replace the bad ones.
