My Original Characters

This was initially on my profile, but I decided to make a blog post out of it instead. Mostly for myself as well: I like having my characters outlined to make sure I don't overlap in their names/personalities somehow. I'll keep updating this list as well.

My main original characters:

Paula (full name Paula Min Choi) is featured in "Meeting 2PM." She's Canadian-Korean and first comes to South Korea to teach English, happening to encounter the popular JYPE beastdols in the airport. When you first meet her, she's 22; has short, bleach blonde hair; and a tomboyish style, but she likes to dress up once in a while. She has a younger sister and she likes striking conversations with strangers; she usually gets along with everybody she meets. She's also mentioned in Chapter 6 and featured in Chapter 7 of "Variety Royalty," where you learn that she has met Jaye at a music show filming. Paula is also in "Meeting Jay Park," a spinoff of "Meeting 2PM."

You get to know Leela (last name Baek) pretty well in "First Impressions." She's 24, a trilingual Canadian-Korean journalist working for a South Korean national paper, no-nonsense, and straight-forward. I didn't give a description of her appearance in the story, but when you first meet her, she has long black hair which covers her many ear piercings, medium height, and dresses appropriately for her age and uality...Usually. She also has a few tattoos in hideable areas.
Leela also makes an appearance in "Playing Defense," and there, she is playful, funny, and friends with Rae. I also don't give a description of her looks, but in my head, she starts to become more of a badass: she layers her hair (short in the back, long in the front) to about shoulder length; a tattoo sleeve is slowly coming to fruition on her left arm; and she shows her piercings more. She tends to swing between her mature and immature sides, depending on who she's with.
She is also featured in "A Summer Encounter" and "Play On." Her appearance doesn't change much except for her hair colour (black to blonde) and the amount of tattoos on her body grows (an almost complete left arm sleeve in the former; a complete left arm sleeve and the beginning of a sleeve on her right leg). It's implied in both stories that she has come out of a bad relationship, not necessarily with the person in question but with the environment surrounding the person. "Play On" is still in progress; I'll be posting one other chapter eventually.

Not much of "Clouds Mean..." has been revealed yet as this is my most recent posted story now, but her hair has grown a bit more and she has changed her hair colour to purple. She's still the same as ever, nonchalant and fun, even though she has gone through some stuff relationally in the past stories. Leela tries to keep everything to herself, pouring everything into her work.
"Not The Same" is about Leela kind of snapping after everything she's been through with the men in the previous stories, and she's going down a dark road, at her very lowest. It's a story near and dear to my heart.

Jaye (full name Bridget Jayh-ee Lee) is in "Variety Royalty" and is the youngest out of everyone (21). I've written her as fiesty and talkative, but when she first meets someone, she's a little timid. She's Korean from Southern California, USA and is new to the world of teaching ESL when she gets swept into the world of Korean variety, deemed the princess of variety because of her sudden popularity. She has to quit her job as a teacher, but eventually gets a job at SBS and crosses entertainment culture by storm. She is petite in height and curvy, has light brown hair in a pixie cut; and a tomboyish style, but you'll never see her without her big hoop earrings or her silver charm bracelet.

Going back to "Playing Defense," my main character there is Rae (haven't given her a last name yet or figured out if her first name is a shortened version of a name), and she's a Canadian-born Korean, an arts university graduate, a style coordinator, and 23 years old. She's pretty mild and kind when she's first introduced, but then her sassy, sneaky, and lively sides come out as the story continues. She is also the main in "Playing Defense SECOND VERSION," and her personality is basically the same except that she's a lot more mature and in control...She also has a boyfriend, but you'll have to read the story to find out who.
Since she is Leela's friend, Rae makes an appearance in "Play On." She is over protective and wants nothing but the best for Leela; she brings out her friend's wild side because the other is always busy with work.
She's also mentioned in "Not The Same" a few times, but otherwise doesn't have that big of a role.

Evee (nickname E) is a woman I created for "My Ecstasy," who is in her early 30s, and is in a serious long-term relationship. I'm still not quite sure what to make of her personality since I don't explore much of her background and characteristics in the story, but I know what she looks like: short and light with bobbed brown hair.

You first meet Jo in "Meeting Jay Park" as a minor character. She is the same age as Leela (24), a bartender at a club in Gangnam, and befriends Paula. They hit it off because they are both from North America: Jo from Portland, Oregon and Paula from Burnaby, British Columbia. Jo (full name Mi-ri-nae Josephine Kang) becomes the main character in "Internet Friends," and you find out she has two younger brothers, and a personable and easy-going demeanor. She's a flirt, which comes from years at doing her job, and it becomes an unconscious habit outside of work. When she bartends, she dresses and does her makeup a bit provocatively (so people buy drinks and give her better tips), but when she's not working, she's a bit of a slob: bare faced, almost always in her pajamas because she keeps odd hours and when she does meet up with people during the day, sweats or jeans and hoodies are her best friends.

Laine (full name Elaine) is in "Recovery." I haven't come up with her back story yet since that story is just a one-shot, but she has a pleasant outlook on life and she likes adventure, as she's by herself in a new country. She briefly reveals she doesn't have good relationships with her extended family, however that doesn't hinder her desire to live life and visit her cultural roots, her grandparents' backyard.

In "One Touch [Is All It Takes]", which is a fantasy-based AU, Min-seo is EXO's Xiumin's younger sister. So far, you learn that she has an augmented version of her brother's frosting power (she can emit icicles from her hand, and freeze any surface with one touch) and she is unable to control it. She finds it hard to trust others and is easily provoked, causing the remaining eight members of the group to be a bit scared of her, but she has a tinkling laugh and a welcoming face.

Jun-seo (last name Jung) is in his early thirties and a chef in "Progress." He can be short-tempered, a stereotypical trait of those that work in the food industry, but he is easily surprised so his moods can swing quite suddenly. I think he is from Canada, although I'm unsure of how he got there: maybe his parents immigrated when he was young and he ended up going to grade and culinary school there, or maybe he just went there for his post-secondary education.

And You (the reader) are in "Good Morning," "An Unwanted Switch," "His Wish," and "Average Evenings."

My minor original characters:

Paula first meets Ha-eun as JYPE's receptionist in "Meeting 2PM" and they eventually become friends and business partners.

Also in "Meeting 2PM," Sung-goon is a sound editor for JYPE. You figure he (and all the other staff) knows Paula well since she's always hanging out at JYP Center.

Billie (full name Eun-kyung Wilhelmina Nam) is Jaye's best friend in "Variety Royalty." They meet at Eat Your Kimchi's You Are Here Café and hit it right off. Billie is a half Korean and half English Seoul native; is an only child; is tall and skinny; has long, dark brown hair; and is much shyer and quieter than her friend. She's in her last year as a fashion student at Ewha Womans University.

In "Variety Royalty" once again, Seung-yoon is one of SBS's writers (for Running Man) and Jaye's coworker. She's a little whispy and a pain in the but Jaye still loves her, since Jaye's the newbie and would get hazed if she said or did anything stupid to the other staff members.

Because Leela is at this particular café a lot, she befriends a barista named Hee-young. You discover in "First Impressions" and in "A Summer Encounter" that she is younger than Leela and tends to eonnie a lot. In "Clouds Mean..." Hee-young is somewhat of a guardian angel for Leela, making sure the elder gets her caffeine and food as well as playing a bit of matchmaker.

Eun-ji is a co-stylist with Rae in "Playing Defense." She's a monotone, doesn't-really-give-a--about-anything-or-anyone kind of girl, but Rae thinks she's hilarious.

"Meeting Jay Park" has a lot of minor OCs who are all staff at a Gangnam club that Paula frequents, and a few of them are also mentioned in "Internet Friends" since Jo works with them:
Tae and Eun-ho are bouncers, Tae being the senior guard. He's a big man and a strong, stoic, silent type, but cracks ever so slightly for Paula whenever she comes by, to the amusement of the other staff. Eun-ho is more smiley and easy-going. He's smaller and younger than Tae but big enough to keep people out of the club or to break up a fight.
Min-jong and Ah-rin are hostesses/waitresses. They're the same age (mid-20s) which is probably why they get along so poorly: arguing about anything and everything is their favourite passtime whenever they're together. Min-jong can't stand Ah-rin and is more catty in general while Ah-rin is calmer and level-headed.
Kim Seong-oo is the owner and manager of the club. He's in his late 20s, passionate, and driven. It's implied in the story but to clarify, he's good friends with 2PM as he used to be a manager at JYPE. He is also extremely protective of Paula because he likes her, something she chooses to look over.
Hyung-joon is a bartender, in his mid 30s, and married with a baby boy. He's the father figure at the club, keeping his eye out on everyone and making sure they're getting along. Sometimes he stays quiet however, showing tough love and letting people duke it out when they need to.
(Min-jong, Seong-oo, and Hyung-joon are mentioned in "Internet Friends" as well, since they work with Jo.)

There are a couple minor OCs in "Progress":
~Kyle is a waiter from the Southern US at Junseo's restaurant. He is timid and usually embarrassed when he has to deal with anyone from the kitchen, but he can pour on the charm and be quite the gentleman when it comes to the guests that come in every night.
~Min-ah is Junseo's sous-chef. She was born in Korea and became one of the youngest sous-chefs in the world. She has worked with Junseo for a while and knows how he functions, so she isn't bothered with his flippant attitude, and says what's on her mind no matter what, even if it earns her scathing remarks back. She teases him a lot as a result, even if he doesn't react. I might continue writing with her if I don't with the male chef.

I don't say much about Perla in "Not The Same," but she's Leela's friend from Canada who visits her in S. Korea. She's Latina and in my mind she's loyal and understanding.

Dongwha is Leela's hoobae in "Clouds Mean..." He's a sweet kid, kind of aloof, and new to the journalism world. Leela makes it a point to mentor him in a way but he asks for her help a lot, which tires her out as she has her own work to finish too.
