Trailer Makers/Video Editors — QUESTION

I'm in the midst of deciding whether to buy a new MacBook or a new Windows laptop. The reason why I wanted to buy a new Windows laptop is for gaming purposes, but I figured that since I'm going to college, a MacBook might be better suited. I'm not worried about losing certain features that the MacBook has like Pages or KeyNote because I can use my Google Drive account to access these kinds of things, but the one thing I'm worried about is video-editing. I'm used to iMovie and understand its features and all, but I have no clue on the Windows. Also, editing-programs in windows seems more complicated, but that might be me being crazy.

That's why I decided to ask any video-editors or trailer-makers this:

  1. Do you have an Apples laptop or a Windows laptop
  2. Which program do you use
  3. Is the program free
  4. Do you recommend the program you're using

Answering these four simple questions will (hopefully) help me decide on my new laptop soon. Thank you for your time!

1: Windows
2: Windows Movie Maker, iMovie & Videopad
3: Yessss
4: I do recommend all since they're all pretty much easy to use but videopad can be at times very laggy and it's annoying.

1: Windows
2: Windows Movie Maker
3: Yes
4: Yes and No. It's easy to use once you get the hang of it and there are a lot of tutorials online. The biggest problem I have with it is that audio is really hard to sync on WMM. The problem with it is that it is TOO simplified and that makes it harder to do complicated things. Other than that, it has worked for me and produced some pretty good trailers.

I'm not a professional video editor, nor am I a trailer maker, but I do play with programs just for the fun of it.

1. Do you have an Apples laptop or a Windows laptop?
I actually have an iMac AND an ASUS ROG laptop (windows). For apple, like you said, everything is restricted to graphics and editing purposes. You can barely play any online games without worrying about overheating problems etc as wells as the compatibility. As for windows laptop, it all comes down to the product specs. Personally, I wouldn't suggest you to get a gaming laptop, but if you're not looking into this with a budget, you can, if you'd like to. But it all comes down to you, really. You can easily get a normal laptop with better graphics if you insert a graphic card, get more ram and a better processor. That's all you in to put in the metal box to make it similar to an apple laptop, really.
2. Which program do you use?
I used to use iMovies on my iMac, but I dumped it for Adobe Premiere Pro. As for my windows, I'm currently switching between Sony Vegas Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects.
3. Is the program free?
It can be free for both apple and windows. If you know what I mean.
4. Do you recommend the program you're using?
Definitely. It might be a little complicated for a beginner, but once you get the hand of it, it's the coolest you've ever encountered on the internet.
