( elaboration ) : some of her traits may seem contradicting, but i'll try my best to explain how it all works out !! haneul is known as happy virus because she's always laughing or smiling and she has a very loud, contagious laugh and she loves making people laugh and be happy. it's pretty easy for her to please people due to her humorous and observant nature. these traits work together in a way - she notices lots of little things about people and has learned not to judge people by their covers because of the little and even bigger things she's found out about people ( it's not eavesdropping, okay -- she's just very good at listening. and she knows how to. instead of talking as much as others, she tends to be the listener. and when she's somewhere by herself, she listens to other people and idk it helps her get to understand humans a lot more. ). using these things she knows about people, she gets to know their limits and what they find acceptable. also, haneul's one way of getting to know people is getting to know what makes them laugh. she herself has a very lame sense of humor and she basically finds lots of things funny and she has lots of different types of humor and she's good at reacting to people respectfully to what they say. but she's just very humorous / good - humored and uses her observance skills to help her know what to say and what not to say around certain people. she's very good at that - being adaptive to people's personalities. she adapts to their personalities because she doesn't like making people feel uncomfortable and she's very selfless in this way - she tends to put people's needs before hers and would rather burden herself than others. i guess you could say she's a people person. like said previously, she doesn't like making people uncomfortable and so is very laidback. she has a very go-with-the-flow aura and tries to keep a cool head, especially when her friends are going through tough times, because what's the good if she's panicking, too? since she seems so levelheaded a lot, people might think she doesn't understand what being stressed is like or anything, but please, lots of people are broken and have experienced those emotions, even haneul. sometimes it's surprising to people how relieving it is to talk to her. she's very empathetic and compassionate, specifically towards those she loves. she's broadminded and is very good at seeing from different points of views, so when people tell her how they're feeling, she's rarely surprised or anything - she just nods and understands. she's kind of sensitive because of this, though - she doesn't like seeing people she cares for being upset and gets emotional when they get emotional.

however, sometimes her want to please others can overcome her sense of logic. she always means well to others, but then she thinks as long as she does, it's fine. she can be insensitive in this way, because however hard she tries to please people, it's impossible to please everyone ( but try telling this girl that sigh she has like a problem otl ). sometimes, people are offended by what she says. maybe not rashly, but it's possible for them to take offense, but that thought rarely comes to her mind. "well i mean, i didn't mean for them to be offended, so it should be fine." this also kind of defines her dense and naive nature as well - not only to this situation, but other things. usually, haneul's a smart girl and knows when to protect her friends from sketchy areas or creepy men, but when it comes to herself, something just clicks. off. like girl are you really this dense -- that man is trying to hit on you okay. maybe it's because she's always like "oh i just want to see the good in everyone maybe he's just a nice man not a e" sighpies it makes people frustrated like jungkook aigoo. something else that makes people frustrated - mostly those she's really close to - is the way she closes herself off from others. she's so good at listening to others and being empathetic to them, but she herself doesn't like displaying her emotions because she feels it makes her seem weak. she's very indiscreet about her emotions and is always acting happy. most of the time, she really is happy, but there are definitely times when she's bottling up lots of emotions, which is never good. she just keeps bottling them, though, due to her want to not burden those around her.

here is a random paragraph for the other two neutral traits !! she's creative - mostly with her food. but she's also artistically creative - baking has helped her become very skillful with her hands and she loves doing little crafts and such and lots of her presents to people are, like, handmade. she thinks less materialistic things are more touching so she loves making things for people. tough mostly refers to her under pressure or stuff. she's very levelheaded and can seem very cool because she's always calm when people try to argue with her or make her flustered or anything. especially with jeon jungkook, hence the ssen ai nickname. he's always leaning in close, winking at her, back hugging her, and she never lets her front falter because she really is a ssen ai. she's not going to give in just because jeon jungkook with his hot face is staring into her soul.

( this was horrible omfg i hope this makes even a tiny bit of sense. this is my first time writing a character different from what i usually write, so it might be like...bad. super bad. )

 

( background ) :

[ fated to love you ] let's start from the beginning of the beginning. miyoung and mingun met at ages 18 and 21 respectively. they were both in pretty different stages of life, but they went through it together. their love started to blossom at a young age, but nonetheless, it was still love. and they knew it. after one year, they had their hearts set on spending the rest of their futures together with no doubts, but however pure the love, the journey was definitely not as pink and frilly. many people, including family members, didn't like the idea, because there were very big class differences between the couple, and putting aside class difference, the 3 year was taking a toll on them at their young age. they were yet to be ready to have a stable family, but the challenge was pretty much forced upon them when a night of passion led to a baby bump called haneul. or dog poo. or dalpaengi. even more disapproval was thrown onto the couple, by 'friends' family friends, co - workers, strangersespecially by family members to family members on the other side, and it looked like this relationship wasn't going to work out. however much each family hated each other, though, none of them could find the heart to send miyoung to abort the baby.

[ it's a boy! // miracle baby ] that subtitle is totally irrelevant. well, not really. mingun lowkey wanted a boy, while miyoung didn't really care, so the day before her due date, he wrote her a long, heartfelt letter. on a storebought card that had the typical "it's a boy" design. however, the couple was very close to not getting what either of them wanted. when haneul came out, her umbilical cord was wrapped around her, almost choking her to near death until it was cut and unraveled. thankfully it did nothing to her mental or physical state, but it was definitely a moment that brought miyoung and mingun together. haneul herself was also a moment that brought the two families together. she didn't cry much as a kid and was happy virus even as a newborn and she brought joy to both sides of her family.

[ kang haneul !! ] born on november 22, 1999 in san francisco, california under the name iris kang, haneul lived a good life in america. she had friends, good grades, a great family, etc. and then her grandparents called her and her parents to come live in korea with them because their age had been getting to them. haneul was torn away from her american dream and had to face lots of new beginnings - a new school, a new environment, new people, a new language - well, she'd always spoken korean in america to her parents and stuff, but now it was so much more prominent. it was definitely hard for her to adjust to korea.

[ mama, i killed a man ] this subtitle is probably not the best...but idk anything else that's significant of the word mom. it was hard to adjust for haneul and things got even harder when haneul's mom passed away. she passed away in haneul's second year of school, so by then haneul had built relationships with soonyoung, wonwoo, and the jeons next door, so she had many people there to comfort her and mourn with her. her mother had a rare disease that was genetically passed down on her side of the family every other female generation. haneul knows the disease will skip over her, but the thought of it and the probabilities are still haunting to her sometimes.

[ back to the future ] my subtitles legit make no sense. but here we are, back where we started. i guess. we're in the present. third year, after all these things building haneul up and helping her mature and be the person she is today. notes : mingun and miyoung's parents didn't approve on the class differences between the two. miyoung was into art, a profession that didn't make too much money, and mingun was in line to become the heir to his father's company. not only that, the relationship wasn't favored even more when news of the disease came to surface. mingun's parents didn't want their son to have a wife that had that sort of future and miyoung's parents didn't approve of that situation either. and another note : haneul's very scared to get into a relationship. what if it becomes serious? she's always wanted to experience a love like her parents have, but knowing that her daughter will have an ill - fated future...she didn't know how to handle that. but you don't have to go that deep lol i mean this is just high school. and one last note : she gets her indiscreet emotion thing from her dad. he was always so...extravagant. it seemed like there was no time for him to be worrying about things and he always covered up his worries with his crazy laugh ( not that he worried a lot ), but after his wife passed away, he learned how bad it is to keep your emotions bottled and urges haneul to find someone she can rant to besides him.

• kwon soonyoung / 17 / contact name : 'i light up your life amirite' / hoshi ( hosh for short ), which means 'star' in japanese, is his nickname. why japanese? he's taking classes. why star? he's going to be a star when he grows up. he has a passion for dancing and is always doing some weird new move when he sees haneul. his quirky personality kind of reminds her of her dad, and the two men boys do get along pretty well. haneul and soonyoung are always joking around and are pretty much always seen together. they have similar senses of humor and are both the same level of outgoing and loud, he's just more open about it around strangers than she is. they're very tightknit, but tbh, no one's really jealous of their relationship because they're both lame. they're loyal and supportive and protective of each other, but they don't show the depths of that in public. they support each other's lame jokes and puns and protect each other from people who judge them from afar and are just lame together. sometimes, though, more than being supportive and nice, it's a hate - love relationship, because haneul's sassy as heck and it's hard to get an 'i love you' out of her and she's most always roasting soonyoung. but he's a happy little eye smiley boy so all is well. ( ksy : haneul, love me !! *follows her around with arms stretched outwards* )

• hwang eunbi / 17 / girl who needs to find her chill / the one girl who maybe takes jungkook's "flirting" a little too seriously. she's the typical girl he's used to who haneul is pretty much the polar opposite of - she's clingy, flirtatious, two - faced, and great at up when she needs to. haneul tries not to care about her any more than she cares about jungkook bc she tries so hard to not like him ( or at least not to admit it ), but when she realizes she likes him and vice versa, they both know she's gonna be a difficult obstacle to overcome. haneul just tries her best not to associate herself with eunbi, but when eunbi realizes that jungkook's attention isn't fully on her anymore ( like it ever was man tbh ), she turns to her sly ways and tries her best to make haneul unappealing to jungkook ( cue typical drama love rival ). but honestly, the most eunbi can do is speak. she's not a woman of action as much as she is words.

 

• jo joori / 17 / gooooood friend !! / way more than acquaintances, but not as much as dream team or joori and sehun. they have some classes together and are actuallly pretty close, due to their chill personalities, foreignness, interest in fashion, and way of speaking. like omg joori threatens to shoot sehun so many times it's amazing. the two girls will sometimes walk to classes together, they'll occasionally say hi in the halls, and haneul tends to join in and make note of sehun's lisp once in a while, too. they emenate girl power, and haneul is so totally not oblivious to the feelings joori has for sehun and the looks she shoots at him. wow i should be matchmaker instead man yeah gurl i see you.

yeah so i had both of them do an interview. i thought it'd be cute if they both went to the matchmaker for help, and plus this helps a lot with helping you see how jungkook's feelings for haneul work !!

i'm hoping the traits are enough to kind of explain him, but yeah, this is just in case. hmm, to describe jeon jungkook in a nutshell. he's a good kid, he really is. like it says, he's loyal and hard - working and passionate for who he loves and what he does and he's also genuine - you can always expect the straight truth from him. but, of course, that also has it's bad sides. he's a blunt boy and the thing is, he doesn't really care sometimes. he just sees nothing wrong with speaking his mind. he's also stubborn and prideful, probably because of all the confidence he gets from the attention he garners from mostly female students. most of all, though, he just wants to have fun, but sometimes, he loses sight of morale when he's having fun and can go slightly overboard at times and he can be slightly immature, but jeon jungkook is still a human and knows boundaries and would honestly never think of majorly and intentionally damaging anything or hurting anyone. so basically, he's an fboi teenager going through puberty who is actually very caring on the inside. deeep deep down, though.

( meeting ) : these two are, thanks to fate, neighbors. when haneul moved to korea at the beginning of high school, she never expected to have such a good looking neighbor. she also did not expect a super annoying, flirtatious neighbor who seemed like he was only concerned with getting it on with girls. yeah, it was the same neighbor. her family had been unpacking the whole day and decided to take a rest when a knock was heard on the door. they opened the door to reveal a family with the same population dynamic as them - mother, father, child. yes, the child was none other than jeon jungkook. haneul was fairly interested in him for about the first 5 minutes ( bc hey, she's all for the whole cute neighborhood boy romance nootnoot who wouldnt be ) until the parents started talking and the two were left alone to converse. she awkwardly left the room to go finish unpacking and he followed her - like hello, personal space ??!! luckily, all her personal things had been unpacked already. he leans against her doorway and just looks around. not wanting to be mean, haneul kind of chuckles. "uhm, can i help you?" he looks at her and gives her a light smirk. "sure. one serving of those long legs would be nice." she gaped at him. "i'm sorry, what?!" that was, yes, the first thing he said to her. nice going, man. but come on, give him some slack - he's a fetus in his feelings for her right now !! but she was already enraged. no one should expect for her to give in with compliments on her body like she's some object - and the fact that that was his first remark to her? nope, no politeness now. two can play this game. "you heard me, baby girl." "ok, one, do not call me that. two, if i recall, we don't really even know each other?? so i don't know where you're getting the idea that it's okay to talk to me - or anyone, actually - like that." jungkook tried to approach her - "oh come on, then we can get to know each other!" she picked up one of those huge pencils that no one even writes with but it's just cool to have and pushed the eraser part against his stomach. "whoa whoa whoa - stop right there, boy. yeah, i'm having none of this so let me get to the point. hah. point. *gestures to pencil* anyways. scratch that pun. sorry. *points to the hallway* the exit is that way." she put the pencil back down on her desk and turned away from him. "and that wasn't a suggestion." she said, not looking at him. he chuckled. "alright, we've got a feisty one here! but oppa knows when to give a girl her space." wow, you should've seen the self control haneul had to use - ultimate maximum gear engage power yo she was boiling on the inside. *i hate guys like him.* was the most prominent thing on her mind for about the rest of the day. or the week. i mean, it was hard to get that thought out of her head when she knew he was a house over. way to make a good impression, jeon jungkooking up some trouble

( interactions ) : jungkook kept up this ridiculous attitude for the rest of first year. their relationship was basically him trying to flirt with her and her just being annoyed. she always thought she wanted someone to openly express their affection for her, but wow. second thoughts. and plus, this wasn't even affection. haneul was pretty disturbed by the thought of what people said jungkook actually wanted from her and as he kept trying to attract her in ways that had always been foolproof for him, she just kept getting more and more genuinely pissed off. and then passed first year, a pretty stressful one for haneul, thanks to the new environment and the pesky neighborhood boy. by that summer, haneul's parents and jungkook's parents had become very close and they decided to spend summer vacation together at a resort. haneul was dreading it. but over that vacation, jungkook really got to get to know her, thanks to personal experience and stories his parents told him about their family. it was weird, because he had never had that kind of relationship with any of the girls he flirted with. usually he just saw them at school and no where else, but he was seeing haneul everywhere. as he continued to get to know her more, he realized how much he was actually bothering her. now, remember when i said jungkook was still a human? he actually felt pretty bad about the way he assumed about her and took her for granted - he would only want to bother someone if they had done something to him first, but if he really thought about it, it had always been pretty much his fault. this wasn't a huge epiphany for him, but it was big enough for him to muster up his courage and throw away some pride and go apologize for the way he treated her on that first day and thereafter. it was a very awkward and flustered time for him, but haneul kind of enjoyed seeing him so vulnerable. and being compassionate haneul, she saw his true heart, even though he also looked pained as he said the words 'i'm sorry'. "*small smile* well at least you know how to say sorry. somewhat. you know, it would probably be more meaningful if you looked them in the eyes. genuinely. with, like, sad eyes or something." he grinned back at her and leaned in close. "like this?" he smirked. she leaned back, frowned at his change in attitude, and pushed him away before getting up to walk away. "can you ever be serious?" he got up and held her back. "hey, hey, ok, i'm sorry. *looks her in the eyes* happy?" haneul's not the type to falter or be flustered when a guy looks her in the eyes, so she stared back, surprising him as well. "...whatever." she twisted out of his grasp and walked away - not angrily, though. "hey, can you just give me some time? it's not like you can completely avoid me for, like, the rest of high school since we're neighbors, so i'll be trying, okay? and that's a lot for me to say, because wow i've never done this much self reflection in my whole life." haneul stopped walking and smirked / scoffed / chuckled. "true that. then come on. you'll need to rest after all this thinking, am i right?" he wrinkled his nose at her and slung an arm around her. "will you help me?" he asked with puppy eyes. "yo, is this like your natural instinct or something? why you so touchy?" he cheekily grinned and brought her closer. "yeah, i've grown up like this. it's my love language! i'm trying to express my love for you!" she rolled her eyes but didn't push him off. from then on, he was much less of a erted creep towards her. he still flirted with her and hugged her and bothered her and , but he knew her boundaries and respected them. he didn't touch her inappropriately, make crude jokes, etc. second year approached, and the thing was, he acted the same, but he felt different. he still spent as much time with her as he did any other girl and he continued to learn new things about her every day and just how his words can be the truth, his flirtatious remarks started becoming true as well. he would start telling her she looked pretty, he'd tell her he just wanted to spend time with her, and his words to her started to generally get less flirty and more...like he actually liked her. around the middle of second year, the two started to really get to know each other, which was hard not to do when they were neighbors and their parents were like best friends. but things happened and they got to know the deeper parts of each toher, other than the surface relationship they had, which was him being teasy and her being sarcastic to him. haneul's mother passed away, jungkook's dad's business got bankrupted, dalpaengi ran away for a while, and lots of things just happened, mostly between their families, to bring them together. the two families were able to help each other through everything and they all overcame the obstacles, and that created a bond between haneul and jungkook that was very unique. haneul and jungkook have been through lots of ups and downs, but they endured it all and were able to make it out together. jungkook found himself continuously going through more self reflection as he hung out with haneul, who was all about helping people and being strong for herself. he started flirting with less and less girls until soon, he basically only hung out with haneul. summer came and went and along came third year. haneul no longer pushed away jungkook and willingly hung out with him, not even minding when it was just the two of them. and the two hung out a lot, having developed a relationship much more mature and, well, better, since the first time they met. they became dependent on each other and know all the little things about each other and are always looking out for each other on the sidelines. honestly, no one would expect them to actually care for each other so much because they're always teasing each other, bickering with each other, having lame competitions, etc. on the outside, they're super playful and they just mess around with each other a lot, but they really do care for each other a lot. ( sighpies i hope this made sense i lowkey feel like it didn't !! so like jungkook will forever be blunt with what he thinks about her, but since he's done it forever, she doesn't think hes genuine and just thinks he's being normal. and haneul's always rejected him and his flirtatious remarks no matter what he says to her, but since she's done it forever, she knows she can't just change and start acting like she likes his compliments, so she keeps acting like she doesn't like him and he thinks she's just being normal so it's just...you know? and plus she can't give in because no she is not going to be weak !! )

 

( relationship ) :  i honestly dont know how to describe this relationship. frenemies? as in boyfriend girlfriend enemies. as in they both lowkey like each other but are too prideful to show it. and they're super sarcastic and evil and teasy to each other. u know what i mean.
