Sad Stories

I haven’t finished writing any of my stories, but I noticed I always write sad stories. I’ve tried writing happy ones, but I always fail to, or it ends up turning into something sad or depressing. Writing happy stories seems easier to write, but for me, it's not.

Sometimes I wonder if my readers want a story that is Lovey Dovey and fluffy. Well for those of you reading this, I apologize because I just can’t seem to write that way. Personally, I find dark and sad stories to be more interesting, but I will admit, it's nice to have some fluffy parts in the story.

What kind of story do you find more interesting?

It's fine to write sad stories. I think sometimes it's harder to write sad stories. Most of my stories have some sad element in them. Angst does give a different dimension to stories.

I write sad stories as well. Nothing wrong with writing sad stories if it feels right. When I started writing at the age of 14/15 my parents (in particular my mother) asked me "why does everyone always die? Can't you write a happy story?" and I whined and told her "but mum, there are just so many more descriptive words for sad stories!" She shook her head and told me there was probably just as many happy words. Nonetheless - my main genre is still angst.
There's nothing wrong with angst. At all. Don't feel obligated to write something else for someone. Don't completely stop challenging yourself but don't let it become a burden to you either. Sometimes I write happy stories, they're definitely not what I do best but if I had a feeling, I'm going to write it. Write what you want to write. And if happiness takes over - I'm pretty sure it won't be impossible for you to write.
But really, don't think that you have to apologize to readers who may want "a lovey dovey fluffy story . They're reading your works because they like it. And angst is a marvelous genre. :)

If you're having trouble writing a happy story, just get to a happy ending. Make it sad in the middle, that's fine. In fact, a sad middle makes the happy ending sweeter. If you have a love story for example, and things fall apart, almost to the point where one party tries to kill themselves, have them rescued. Have the other person rescue them. Make the sad, depressing part turn positive somehow. Just know that it needs to /end/ happily. It doesn't need to /always/ be happy, because life doesn't work like that. It will have ups and downs, so make your story fit it.
