What is your opinion on OCs?

So, honestly I hate OCs. I don't like the ideas of them, and will not read a story with an OC in it.
Now, I am in no way against straight ships.
I do have a few of my own, and read quite a few. Mainly ones with either Amber, Hwasa, or Hyuna--
But yeah.

For some reason I cannot bring myself to like OCs at all.
And I have tried, I have read a few stories that contain OCs, and just got annoyed half way through.
It could because they are so obviously modeled after the author who wrote the story containing the OC.
Or because the OC is a Mary Sue, which honestly makes me hate the story overall.
Or the OC tends to be the girl who is "ugly" or "unpopular" and has all the popular boys (EXO, BTS, etc etc) going after them anyway?

It just seems to me that when the character is not made within the authors mind they have more flaws.
But when it is an OC they seem too perfect and, as a result, annoying.

I wanted to know what others thought about them?
Why do you like OCs? Why do you dislike them?
Why are you possibly in between liking and disliking them?

NOTE
I am in no way trying to bash your story or your OC if you have one.
Not everyones OC or story is like I described above.
It just seems that the majority are that way.
And I want to see others opinions on it.

im not much of an OC person myself. to me, when i read about idols it's more exciting to read about people that already exist. if i wanted to imagine myself with an idol then i could dream about it myself, haha. if anything, you can write an OC with a 'similar personality' to someone that we know already. there are people who are more comfortable with OCs and thats okay, yeah it does give another element of creativity i guess... but not my thing. especially bc most of those stories are with groups im not crazy about ^^
also, i really dont read straight pairings, whether theres an OC or not. im all about that gay tho xD

I don't like OC's and I don't read OC-stories for pleasure. I do when I review but that doesn't really count. I just have a hard time relating to the OC because they're molded after the author (often) and although I don't know the idols I just feel like I relate more to them.
The only straight stories I read are my ships with one part genderbended but I'm just a picky reader.
I didn't understand OC's earlier but now I just... If people feel it right they do it. I'm not going to ever read them for pleasure or seek them out.

I'm okay with both. I think whether OC is 'annoying' or not is depend on the writer. If the writer makes the character too perfect or has many flaws, it can kill the character and the story will become boring. So I think stories with idolxidol pairing and stories with idolxoc pairing are same. The only different is when we read idolxidol stories, we can already imagine the girl's face and character. But, thats what make me like oc actually. It makes me use more imagination to 'create' the girl in my head. Just my opinion. ^_^

I've read a few good stories with OC's before, but mainly I hate them as well. Mostly because almost all of them are unrealistic and unrelatable. Also, I find it really hard to actually liKE a lot of oc's, and obviously not liking the main character of the story makes it impossible to enjoy it. Like you, I'm not saying it's the case for all stories, but it is true for most of them. I feel like lots of authors make their oc's sort of "perfect" without even meaning to. They try to give them flaws and whatnot, but in the end, they're still too perfect for the reader to relate to or like. At least if the main character is my bias that gives me a reason to still like the character even if they're cliche, but oc's are a different story.

i don't think OC or not should be the problem at all...when an OC is bad...it's only because the writer makes it bad. it's not the OC's fault. i used to have the same thinking...hate oc cuz of mary sue and all those stuffs...i usually write male-female idol...but then i started shipping some male-male idols...but one day i just noticed how much OC is hated and how it's not even their fault...and since i like to change perspectives and open minds...including my own...i started writing OCs again....OC doesn't necessarily have to be modeled after the writer...though many do that...one of my oc is a dumb young girl, another is depressed spinster...both aren't in my age group...i even made male OCs...the power to make OC whoever you want to make is the writer's...usually, i just use female idols...but when i have to make the character someone i can't relate to any idol/actress...like someone really unattractive...or just doesn't match any celebrity i can think of...that's when i make them OC...and when I make OC..i make sure to write characters that i can love...not fro being perfect, but for being relatable...that's also up to the writer..but now that i see the main trend is and OC...i'm back to male-female idol pairings since i just like going against trends (and getting no readers in the process haa)

i used to read ocs fics but now i prefer idolxidol way more. what you said is valid but at the same time, it can apply to non oc fics. idk i think the reason for me not really liking oc fics anymore is like you said--sometimes the author projects themselves onto the oc WAY too much and i find that creepy. although to be fair shipping two real people is kind of creepy as well so IDK XD it's just a preference now c:

From what I've read (and I mostly read psychological fics), some OCs are great.

Take korekrypta, for example. Look at "The Blood Brother Code" fic and the other works she'd done. They're absolutely phenomenal.

The reason why the OCs are poorly written is because the fics are created by YOUNGER people, who sometimes don't have the knowledge of proper dialogue punctuation, sentence techniques, etc.

It's the same with straight ship writing. You can take Taeyeon and make her into a dense highschool student and other random junk, which is essentially like creating an OC (it doesn't sound appealing, right?).

You've been reading fics that were created by young people who can't really write well.

PREACH oh my goddddd! sometimes i try to read featured stories since they all contain an OC as the main character (no offense..) but halfway through it i'm like, wtf. it's always like im poor. im ugly. i hate this guy from whatever group but we're slowly falling in love with eachother. oh also hes violent with me but its cute. it's also always stories written on the first person and i cant do it.
if people like to write stories with OCs it's fine, im never going to bash anyone, they probably love writing and i know what its like, but it's seriously not my cup of tea

Tell me if I am wrong: an OC is a character as the other idols characters? Because a story needs to be built logically, it may be the story which has a problem and if the story is well built so the characters, included OC are interesting?

Personally, I tend to write with OCs because you can be creative with them. Yes, some OCs out there tend to be Mary Sue-ish or are modeled after the writer's life, but I guess most OCs are given more leeway in the story. Like for example, you don't have to think of the actual person's behavior/character in real life if they are the leading protagonist (like Onew liking chicken is mostly in all stories). Plus, it gives space for the reader to visualize them without being given set standards to begin with because we usually stereotype things immediately like the example I have given. Just my opinion.

Nope. I can't take OCs. It's not that it's bad, but it kinda annoys the out of me. OCs always seem just SO perfect and it's just like WhAT WhY? I usually just stick with the boyxboy. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate OC, but I don't like it either. (sorry to the people who DO like OCs)
