40 Questions for Writers [Stolen from TypicalAuthornim]

Describe your comfort zone—a “typical you” fic.

I guess I like writing a lot of different things but I enjoy 'extraordinary' plots so let's say mental health issues, fantasy, mythology, disorders and au...probably also fluffy and cute stories although I don't intend to always write them in a cute way

Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

I guess trope is another word for genre? Because otherwise I wouldn't know what it is supposed to mean. Something I've never tried...I guess that's angst but I do not plan on writing an angsty story anytime soon. I have written a lot of different stuff so right now I don't know what else I would like to try out.

Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole?

Angst....gore as well

How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now?  Care to share one of them?

So at the moment I have about 30 or 40 stories which I am working on.

  1. Half-Bloods: JongKey (slight 2Min), Greek Mythology, Percy Jackson AU  (since it's the fic I'm currently updating on AFF)
  2. 5 Sons: SHINee OT5, adopted!Key (no sure if I'll ever upload this...like so many of my drafts)
  3. Sweet Love: JongKey, , romance (currently my 2. project after Half-Bloods...not sure if I'll finsh it though)

I have a lot more which all kind of genres but they are all SHINee/JongKey centered...with a few exceptions of MinKey

Share one of your strengths.

I guess it's thinking of unique situations and plots which I often can't even write down myself

Share one of your weaknesses.

As I said above: I have so many ideas and situations, plots, characters and universes in my head that I can't even finish one idea before I get new ones. It's often very frustrating since I have so much I want to share but I just can't finish it. I have though about opening Adoption Shop for my Fic ideas but I don't think anyone would be interested

Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

“You should see your faces,” Ara said amused. “Kibum never really raises his voice maybe that’s why…but I’m not Kibum.”

The three friends swallowed thickly.

“You’re not?” Jinki asked carefully, not really knowing what was going on and judging by the others’ expression they had trouble figuring it out as well.

“Nope, I’m Ara, nineteen years old and currently single,” the male said with a big, goofy grin which was strange to see on Kibum’s face since he normally didn’t even really smile all that often.

Okay, a few things were wrong here. Kibum wasn’t called Ara and he also wasn’t nineteen years old. Though he was indeed single but that didn’t matter at the moment.

“A…ra…” Minho said slowly like a baby who was trying to talk for the first time.

“Yes, Ara. Three letters, an A, a R and an A, results in Ara,” Ara said, wondering what was so difficult about his name. Sure it wasn’t an usual one but still. Saying three letters shouldn’t be so challenging.

His eyes fell back onto the three friends who still looked like they had just seen an alien cross their path so he sighed quietly.

“Okay, I guess Kibum really didn’t tell you about us while we weren’t around.” He moved a bit closer to the edge of the bed and chose to ignore Taemin who shifted a bit further away from him.

“You see, we are a system,” Ara said and put a hand on his chest. “Kibum is our host and I, lucky me, am his first protector.”

“Schizophrenia,” Taemin whispered quietly and Ara glared at the male.

“No,” he said. “It’s not schizophrenia, I have my own personality in case you didn’t know, thank you.” He huffed and rolled his eyes. “Seriously Kibum really didn’t tell you. I need to have a word with this guy.”

Ara shook his head. “To get back to the point,” he said and looked at the other tree again. “Kibum is our host, I’m his first protector, Quin is his second, Damien is the mom and then there is Riko who almost never shows up.” The blond frowned as if he was thinking about the last time the other had taken action.

“All together we make up the system but we’re all different. We try to help Kibum deal with stuff he can’t handle and sort it out for him. I, like the glorious person I am, am there for him whenever he has trouble. We already met a few times but Kibum always says I can’t reveal myself or he’ll get angry. Now I kinda did it so I’m sure he’ll be mad at me later on.”

The three friends looked at each other definitely uneasy about all of this.

“Kibum, this isn’t funny. We stopped fighting so you stop it too,” Minho said, eyeing the blond with a frown.

Ara sighed exhausted. “I keep telling you, I am not Kibum. I might look like him right now but I’m not him,” he tried to explain once again. “Okay, okay, I got it. So Kibum is like…a piece of paper and we, as his alters, are the different colors. We’re all different but together we are a finished drawing, okay?”

The others were quiet for some moments before someone dared to speak up again.

“So what are saying,” Jinki said quietly. “Is that you are not Kibum, but you are a part of him?”

Ara nodded. “Yes, one of his alters, one of his personalities.”

This is a small part from the Oneshot Me, Myself and the Other Mes (JongKey, fluff, slightangst, SHINee, DID, mentaldisorder) which I have written a while ago. I'm very proud of the whole story because it deals with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) or Multiple Personality Disorder for those who don't know what DID is. It was my first time writing about a mental disorder which was quite challenging but at the same time extremly interesting since I love topics like this.

I feel like this part summed up the disorder pretty perfectly for someone who doesn't know what it is and I tried to imagine how someone would explain what is going on.

Gosh, just go read it for yourself xD

Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

“Never mess with Kibum,” he said, still laughing slightly and wiping his eyes.

The Hermes guy groaned heavily. “You can’t be drenched by water like that so shut up, fishy boy,” he said and made a whiny face as he sat up and wiped the water off his body. He only had a few cuts on his forearm so there was nothing to be worried about. “That boy of yours, I swear. He looks like an angel but he’s as sneaky as a vixen. No offense man but that’s a nice piece of Dryad you got there,” he said with a cheeky grin and Jonghyun knew better than to actually feel offended or anything.

“Only the best for the best,” he replied with a smirk, earning a punch aimed at his upper arm for that.

“True, man, true,” the Hermes guy said and sighed.

“Jonghyun.”

The male flinched and laughed nervously. “That was my call, sorry man.”

The other male only smirked knowingly. “Sure. Have fun, fishy boy.”

“You too, Mr.Injured.”

“Jonghyun!”

“Coming baby~”

“Don’t call me baby!”

This is the ending of chapter Xi ξ from Half-Bloods. Maybe you won't understand if you haven't read the rest of it but I think it's hilarious xD. There are a lot more fun scenes~

Which fic has been the hardest to write?

I guess 'Me, Myself and the Other Mes' and 'Half-Bloods'. The latter because it already way over 150,000 words and since it about mythology I need to do a lot of research. I also wrote a prophecy and have several layers of mystery woven into the plot so it's all very complex.

The other simply because of the topic. I do not have DID myself so it was difficult to imagine what it would feel like and exlain it in an authentic but correct way.

Which fic has been the easiest to write?

Probably 'Jonghyun's Personal Manga Model'. It was inspired by a scene from an Anime and it's not very long so I guess this one was the easiest.

Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?

I guess it's both. I'm a very creative person so I have to write down my ideas or my head will explode. I've been writing since I was about...10 I guess but I've only started writin in English about 3 years ago.

I honestly love writing but I think I would like making movies more because it's a complete different feeling and I love watching movies. There is music, amazing pictures, dramatic silence, breathtaking scenes and awesome camera angles. I don't have any of this while writing so I guess if I could turn my storied into movies they would be even more awesome.

Drawing is also a passion/hobby or mine~

Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

Honestly: Everything can inspire me but as I said, I like movies so after watching an amazing one I feel like a can take over the universe. Music is also very good but sadly my thoughts are too fast for my hans so I can't keep up with writing down all teh images playing inside of my head while listening to music T.T

What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

I don't know about advice but here are a few things that I keep in mind:

  • You write because you want to, not because others want you to.
  • Trying out different things will help widen your horizont and get you familiar with all kinds of topics and situations.
  • Writing is a form of expression yourself just like talking, singing or drawing so whenever you write something and puplish it, you puplish part of yourself and your thoughts.
  • You can teach others through your writing.

Those are things I liek to remember whenever I'm in a difficult phase.

What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Not the worst advice but the worst thing to do is writing only what your readers want to read. Of course no one want to villan to be inthe way of the hero, maybe they don't want someone to do this or than but that's just the way teh characters are. Isn't it boring to read a story where everything happens just the way you want it to?

If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?

Most of them to be honest. Since I can only chose one I would chose Half-Bloods. Ther Percy Jackson movies were a real disappointment in my opinion so I would like to do it better with my own PJ inspired universe

If you could only write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

Probably JongKey but there are other great pairings out there and I really want to try writing a story with my own OCs...sadly this is a fanfiction website xD no one would be interested anyway...

Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

Both. Sometimes, with the bigger ones I write from start to finish. Sometimes I add scene in between and sometimes I only write once scene that is floating aroudn my head but my storied tend to get messed up if I'm writing all over the place.

Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

Not really. I sometimes use profiles for my characters but otherwise it's all in my head.

Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement.  Do you have a muse?

No, I just take my inspiration from everything so I don't have that one muse.

Describe your perfect writing conditions.

My writing phases come and go. I can never say when I can write and when I can't. I don't think there is any pattern or a perfect condition....as long as I don't need to go to the toilet that is xD

How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?

Depends on when I finish them. If I finish a chapter 5 days ahead then I reread it quite often but if I finish it an hour before I upload it I may read it once before posting. I correct details whenever I read it again after it's already online.

Yes, I read my own stories. I liek to plot, that's why I write them after all. I want to kow what'll happen next as well.

Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style

That would take too long and I don't really want to touch my older fics because they are already finished...and in the past xD

If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?

Hmm...probably 'A Foxy Present'. It was one of my first fics so my writing was really messy and teh chapters don't really match. The storyline isn't good either but people seemed to enjoy it...

Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?

No, never and I don't want to ever delete one except something forces me to. Even if they are embarrassing and badly written people still enjoed reading them so why take it away from them? I personally really don't like it when I want to read an old story and it's not there anymore.

What do you look for in a beta?

I only have one beta and she is the best

Do you beta yourself?  If so, what kind of beta are you?

I have never really betaed anything...

How do you feel about collaborations?

I tried it once and it sadly didn't really work out. It is very time consuming and difficult to match two very different writing styles.

Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

I don't have any favoriet writers. I rather search for good plots and fics in general than look at who wrote them.

If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

None because although I often wish for a sequel, I don't want to touch another authors work. If they say taht's it, that's it. Also: I couldn't write it nearly as good as them and I like not thinking about storylines for once xD

Do you accept prompts?

Never tried it but I guess I would...

Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?

The term of canon is still not all that clear to me but I think it's something liek sticking to teh original storyline of a movie/book/whatever, right?

If that's teh case then yes, I take a lot of liberties. Everyone can write down the exact same storyline with just different characters, that's not very difficult in my opinion. I rather trying copying the writing style of the original work but I create my own plot and unique characters.

How do you feel about ?

I'm not very good nor experiences with it so I envy the author who can write it so easily.

How do you feel about crack?

Well, I often have random ideas so I guess it's okay

What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con.

Really depends on the story. I can't say that I like it, nor can I say I hate it. I have an open mind so I give everything a shot. If I don't liek it, I don't read it, simple as that.

Would you ever kill off a canon character?

I never kill any character.

Which is your favorite site to post fics?

I only use AFF but I think about using LiveJournal as well.

Talk about your current WIPs.

Half-Bloods is really dear to me because it's a story with a lot of layers. It's like a maze in my head and I have to think over everything at all time so everything will make sense later on. I'm really working hard and I think I've never writting a similar fic before. Sadly there are not a ot of people reading it at the moment.

Of course I'm really thankful to everyone of my 160 subbies but the amount of work I put into this story is really a lot. *sigh* I just want more people to read what I write but I guess that's every author's wish.

Talk about a review that made your day.

I've only recieved one and that's way back...I don't really remember much of it.

Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?

Never got one but I guess I'd try to talk to whoever has a problem with something I wrote. I like to discuss things so don't be scared to start a conversation with me ;)

Write an alternative ending to [a fic of yours] (or just the summary of one).

There is none, I like all of my endings and the all fit.

Yay, another Q&A~

I really like these things ^^ (sorry for any typos, too lazy to check it all)
