AFF new feature?

So now there's this new feature apparently for reputation points. Where you are able to upvote or downvote on comments. What is this for exactly? I've read the original blog post about the comment voting feature, but I still don't fully understand its purpose to be frank. I'm not sure whether this is a good or bad thing either. I mean, this could possibly stir some competition in the midst of commenting and reputation points, right? I've also heard that you can receive a negative reputation score, which isn't really fair in my opinion. Commenting should be based upon the thoughts of readers, but this new feature could intimidate commenters from stating their opinions now. And I wouldn't be surprised if shops start offering packages for upvotes with reputation and comment points—which is honestly ridiculous. I'd like to learn more about this new feature, because I'm still clueless T__T

Wait I didn't even know there was a new feature until you and one of my other friends mentioned it .-. From my understanding so far based of your and my other friends blog post, is that it's sorta how like you can like comments and stuff on YouTube... Then again when DO I ever know ? I just finished writing an essay that I had to wing because I LEFT MY DRAFT IN MY LOCKER TT^TT

I do agree with your points about the negative feature... that is not nice in general. I don't like the downvote option and I don't think that there should be one. It should be upvote only, and if someone likes the comment, upvote it. If not, then leave it alone!
But as for the packages, yeah, that is a concern. That would be pretty pathetic of people to be buying their reputation points, like WTF. >.< But Who knows! Maybe people have learned from the fiasco that happened with karma points and the system for this is better.
Also, according to the original poster, downvotes are supposed to be used to catch trolls (aka Karma Farmers), so who knows?? I am conflicted and we shall see where this will go. =) As for me, I don't realy care one way or another about reputation "points".. people who know me know how I am <3 And that's what counts.
