Themed poems: Alice in Wonderland (short poems)

So after writing several depressing blog entries, I realised that I've unknowingly developed a passion for poetry (note: I used the word 'passion' instead of 'talent' because I still have a long way to go). Of course, I'm still completely oblivious as to what exactly poetry really is. Yet I'm honoured that some of you have called some of my writings 'poetry'. The feeling is beyond incredible and from the bottom of my heart, I'd like to thank all of you who had shown an interest ever since the start. I'm definitely not good at it but I will try.

P.S: After reading, you might probably realise that there aren't a lot of 'chim' words used. That's because I prefer a more simplistic writing style

Anyways, here's a few themed poems I've come up with based on 'Alice in Wonderland'. I hope you could leave me a comment about your interpretations of them! I was debating on whether to include the meanings behind them after each poem but it'd be more interesting to know what other people think first.

Down the rabbit hole

Down, down you go, down the rabbit hole.

Dark, moist and deep, filled with things people used to keep.

Look left, look right and all around yet all you see is everything and nothing at the same time.

You'd wander when the fall would stop, you'd wander if you were even falling at all.

You'd try to think of a way up. Though once you've fallen, there's no way out.

So down you go, far from everything else you used to know.

Down, down you go, down the rabbit hole.

Alice

Alice Kingsley.

No, not the one from Wonderland but oh how she wish she was the Alice.

The Alice that was valiant and determined. The Alice that was willing to slay the Jabberwocky with the Vorpal sword all on her own.

Oh what she would give to have a best friend who was off his rocker all the time.

Oh what she would do to eat the cakes that would make her bigger and the magical liquids that would make her smaller.

Yet, alas, she was merely Alice and not the Alice.

Now she stood on the ground, feet bare and dress torn with the peculiar creatures around her. She looked up, wincing as the blue caterpillar blew a puff of smoke directly at her.

Absolum was asked if she was the Alice and as he laid his droopy eyes upon the clueless youth, he chose to say...

"Not hardly"

Tea time

A table full of desserts, from chewy, chocolatey cookies to crumbly, buttery scones.

The Hatter was smiling and laughing with the Hare while Alice just sat quietly, feeling nothing but despair.

She looked around, noticing the eerie, grey fog and the almost collapsing windmill just behind them.

There was a fire, that much she could tell. A fire so massive that it left everything burnt with absolutely no hope in repairing.

Yet the Hatter was laughing his shrilling laughter as the Hare followed along.

That was when she knew they had masks on their faces because hidden behind their laughter were their broken hearts and unshed tears.

Maybe with them hidden behind their disguises, their brains went haywire.

Just maybe, that is why they've gone mad.

Queen of Hearts

Her head was bulbous, a glorious globe sitting atop her rather tiny body.

She sat on her throne, back straight with her legs resting on a pig's belly. Yet other than that, the grand hall was empty with the only sound filling the room was the deafening silence.

The Queen kept on calling forth her servants and 'followers' to make her laugh. Her wickedly cackle echoed throughout the entire castle, bringing nothing but disgust and fear into the hearts of those who heard her.

Maybe that's why she was called the Queen of Hearts.

Then alas, she got bored and shooed them all away, leaving her alone once more. How grateful everyone felt to finally be away, to not have to pretend anymore.

The closing of the giant doors sounded and the Red Queen slumped back against her throne wit a sigh. Silence once again consumed her and an empty feeling filled her heart.

An empty feeling that no amount of laughter could fix.

So yeah, those are 4 that I've come up with. I'd love to write some more but decided to post this much up now. I hope you could leave your comments down below.
