[Personal] One does not simply receive feedback when publishing fanfiction!

Am I the only person here who seems to have the hardest time getting feedback for my stories? Sometimes you get people who subscribe and run and then you get people who just look and never leave any sort of comment, no upvotes, nothing. I honestly wonder how anyone on this site manages to get some sort of decent feedback, or even a reader following, when no one around here seems to want to put in the extra few seconds to let the writer know how they felt about the writing. Am I doing something wrong? How does one get people to leave feedback, or to even read their fiction in the first place?

I've opened up a review shop, and it only costs 2 karma or a three sentence comment on a story of mine to sign up. I feel like neither of those is too much to ask because it will allow me to advertise my own work while also boosting the requesters' as I leave reviews on their work. So far I have no one signed up.

I've never been good at getting a decent following of readers. I have to know what people are doing to get that audience around here.

I don't know. Some chapters give a lot comments, others doesn't. I really don't know how you get readers though, because I usually just write and a few people follow. :3 so I have no idea what to say... I'm sorry ;;

Honestly, I encounter this problem all the time. There are times when the view count on the chapter goes up but no one comments, and that's pretty normal. I've noticed that I tend to get more comments when it's summer, or some time when not everyone is busy with school and stuff. Like October, November, and December are all really busy months, so AFF activity rate is low in general.
I would say, though, that writing for the right fandom can play a big role in this, as bad as that sounds. OC stories also tend to get noticed pretty slowly--they're either really popular, or they really aren't. Advertisement shops are pretty good for getting your story out there--but then what are the chances that you'll get a genuine comment? They're usually hard to come by, which is why I prefer publishing on Livejournal rather than AFF, where commenting is the only way to show that you liked a story (as opposed to subscriptions or votes, which are just a click of a button).
Another factor is the genre. AFF readers tend to read on both extremes, and I've noticed that stories that fall somewhere in the middle of extreme angst or extreme cheesiness aren't really that well noticed.
You could try asking readers to leave comments, though? Maybe ask them a few questions. A lot of this is just speculation, so I'm sorry for typing this much. Good luck!

I am both reading and writing here. As a person who writes, there was one moment i felt what you are feeling rn. I wondered if it was simply my stories weren't worth commenting or the readers weren't engaged. I learned that the stories with cliff hanging ends or plot twist in each chapter collected more comments. I tried and it worked, lol. Also, trying to reply each comment is also a good move. As a reader, i like commenting simply to appreciate plus i know it is exciting to read comments. Reasons not to comment sometimes bec of the bad internet.
