The Time I Wanted to Crawl Into A Hole

Have you guys ever felt so embarrassed, you actually wanted to crawl into a hole and never come out again? Well this is definitely one of those stories.

Okay so here's what happened...

I was at work on Tuesday and just awaiting one of my assistant managers to start her shift so that I can take my lunch break. As I was working my usual Tuesday morning shift, my friend Natalie* decided to come and pay me a little visit. Mind you, we used to work together and she had trained me at my job and then she eventually got a job working for security so she no longer works with me but we still work in the same building. Now let me tell you, every time security hires a new guy, Natalie just likes to introduce them to me. Why? I have no idea. Actually, I know exactly why. She likes to play Cupid and I have no other choice but to sit back and let her do it.

She decides to tell me about the new guy. I've seen him around for the past week and I was really relieved to see that he was Asian. Usually, I see black, white, or Hispanics working for them so it was really refreshing to come across another Asian in the workplace. I mean, there was an Asian guy that used to work here before but he had to leave due to personal reasons which was unfortunate. Oh well, life goes on... Okay so onto the new guy, whose name is Josh by the way. Natalie then tells me that Josh is Korean which left me feeling amused only because I don't encounter too many Koreans often. I made it clear that I was looking forward to meeting him but then I should just be careful for what I wish for because Natalie said, "I'm gonna tell him that you like K-pop."

I flipped out and was like, "NO!!!! Don't! If you tell him I like k-pop, I will murder you!"

But then, she also added, "I'm gonna bring him by to say hello because I really want you to see something about him."

My interest was already piqued at that point. "Why? What is it?"

"You'll see," she replied cryptically.

"Tell me!" I whined.

"You'll see when I bring him," she finally said.

I narrowed my eyes at her. "Okay," I said.

"I'll come back later," she said, proceeding to walk away.

"Okay, see ya!" I said, resuming my work.

So eventually, my assistant clocks in and joins me up front along with a new girl I just hired so that I can take my break and start on the new girl's paperwork. When I meet Josh, I immediately become flabbergasted. Now I can see what Natalie meant... Josh had a freakishly deep voice. I mean I was so frazzled while talking to him, I may have fumbled a few times when we spoke before eventually introducing myself to him. I'm not talking about TOP deep or Yongguk deep (both sound y, I might say), I'm talking about Groot deep (those of you who have seen Guardians of the Galaxy know what I'm talking about) and it sort of sounded creepy.

The conversation soon shifted over to me pointing out that he and I are actually the only Asians working here! I mean the statement is untrue because there are plenty of other Asians elsewhere but I'm talking about being the only Asian at my job and Josh being the only Asian at his job (up until my brother got hired but that's later on). Then my assistant decides to in telling us that she's part Asian too and decides to poke fun at my nationality, unable to get the pronunciation right. I had to correct her: "It's Laotian. -_-"

Eventually, it got quiet for a moment then Natalie decides to part ways with us, taking Josh with her to make their usual rounds around the building. "It's nice meeting you," said Josh, before leaving.

When they left, my assistant turns to the new girl (who also happens to be her friend) about Josh's freakishly deep voice sounding like a Ninja Turtle AND the fact that his deep voice does not match his face. But my new employee decides to tell us that she finds Josh to be cute, which I agree with not to mention his tall height. <3

As I was getting ready to go on my break, Natalie decides to come back with Josh and with this mischievous smirk on her face decides to come out with it: "Hey Josh," she says, turning to me, "Did you know she likes K-pop?"

"What?!" I bellowed, running over to stop her. "Stop telling him!"

"Yeah," she continues, "All she talks about are Korean boys."

"STOP IT!" I shouted, feeling my face heat up. "I do NOT!" When I turned around to sort of run away, I saw in the mirror that I turned a deep shade of red.

"She even sends me pictures of Korean dudes," she adds.

"SHUT UP!" I exclaimed.

Then my assistant (who is also Natalie's best friend) butts in, "Guys, stop embarrassing my boss!" (I forgot to add that I'm a store manager at my job )

At this point, Josh is laughing along with Natalie, then turns to me, "Do you like Big Bang?"

I look at him. "Well, I like Beast to be exact," I told him, "And BAP, and now Monsta X..."

He didn't hear me the first time because at that point, I was very flustered and spoke too fast. "What was that?"

"I like Beast, BAP, and Monsta X," I told him, "My three favorite groups so far."

He thought about it for a moment. "Never heard of them," he shook his head.

"See? She's more Korean than you!" Natalie states, looking so amused.

Josh chuckles and decides to make light of the situation. "I'm more Laotian than you!"

Then Natalie proceeds to share facts about me to Josh. "She's an auntie," she said, glancing at the both of us. "She's got a nephew named Matthew." Then she looks at Josh. "Josh, you got any nieces or nephews?"

He shakes his head. "I do not," he said.

"He's the only boy in the family and he's the youngest," she states.

I nod in astonishment. "I see! That's nice!"

If I didn't know any better, Natalie is trying to play Cupid for the both of us...

However, that is all for now. To some, this isn't considered an embarrassing story but I thought it was because now an actual Korean person knows about my love for K-pop. Now that is one part of my life I want to keep secret since I'm sure all of you know that no one seems to understand why you love a specific type of music.

Lastly, I put a (*) next to my friend's name because her name has been changed although I thought I'd share Josh's name anyways since there are other Joshes out there. Hope you enjoy the story! I thought I should share some misadventures to make light of the situation. ^^

The End.

Lol, so cute. I hope you and Josh can get along. I too get a little nervous when people find out I like kpop but I don't care, I'm trying to convert people. So far, I've only succeeded with my fiance (who proposed to me the night before KCon 2014 but that's my story for another time) *clears throat* anywhozles. I like your story, and you have some pretty interesting coworkers. Have fun.

GOOD LUCK, BABY GOOD LUCK TO YOU

Ps. I wish my nieces and nephews were as cute as Matthew

haha to be honest some Korean people I've met aren't as excited about K-Pop as we are >////< I've toned down a bit with it now *obviously lying* but yeah... and oh gosh, that sounds like a real situation! Thankfully, Josh didn't make it as awkward so it's alright... I guess :3
