The Darkest of Knights (Preview/Short)

Dr. Kim Jongin, was his name. He was a psychologist, as he liked to say. He thought he was quite the doctor, having the best abilities in him to make people's life supposedly better. Supposedly.  It was a bit of torture, however. It was always said, a psychologist always tends to need a psychologist themselves.

But Kim Jongin, had never thought he would have went so crazy.

He started working in an insane asylum. That wasn't the best job, not by far. It was tiring and it just seemed like a waste of time, but it had good money. And Jongin enjoyed it more than he would if he worked in a plain ol' hospital. But maybe, he belonged here himself.

Jongin worked alongside a man named Taemin, a woman named Jessica, and another man named Kyungsoo. They were all psychologists, they were all insane somehow.

Jongin actually took interest in quite a few of the paitients.

There was Chen, a.k.a. paitient number 092192, he spoke, only in riddles, and only to the voices in his head. Never had Jongin heard him speak to anyone else, except to the person in his head, whom he seemed to always call: 'Baekhyun'. Jongin wondered who that was, and wanted to look into it, but had never found anything about how, or why Chen was here. He was just here. There was no records on his parents, his schooling, his birthday, his real name. He was just 'Chen'. He didn't have a real name, not to anyone in this building. His bloodtype, his height, his weight, was only known because of multiple tests. His intelligence was high, he knew rhymes. He spoke in riddles, after all.

There was Kim Minseok. He only spoke in the politest of tones, in the nicest of words. He didn't seem insane, but according to countless tests, he was. He was insane as they come. But, for some reason, no one saw it. No one understood why he was so... insane. He had the nicest of faces, and the nicest of words. Being alone in a room with him, only made Jongin unsettled.

But it seemed, whenever he visisted Minseok, he seemed to always feel a bit... drained. And his thoughts would wander, and gave him bizzare thoughts. All of the time. No matter what, it was always Minseok.

And his favourite, the one he asked to always inspect, was Park Chanyeol.

Park Chanyeol, also known as, paitent no. 112792, was quite the paitient. He was not much older than Jongin, maybe a few years. But, whenever Jongin would have a session with him, he seemed a bit... happy, afterwards. Chanyeol always had messy black hair, long and always seemed wet, curled on his cheeks and sprawled on his neck. He had dark circles, all on his eyes, and insanely red lips.

This was common, however, with psychological paitients: He never spoke. Jongin has never heard him spoke, not once. It was hard to get information from him. He would always stare off in the distance, but, there was something different.

He always had a smile on his face. Never had he seen smile disappear, it was always there, whether it be faint, or it be spread across his face, giving off a creepy, insane look. And sometimes, he would laugh. Loud and high-pitched, like a scream. But it was a laugh.

Jongin sat at his desk one day, his colleague Kyungsoo, sitting in the chair that was in front of his desk, spoke. "Jongin, are you okay?" He would speak, in soft tones. Jongin had gotten used to the way Kyungsoo spoke, as if he had heard it his entire life. Whether it be nagging, or speaking, or asking if Jongin was okay, like right now. Jongin nodded. "Yeah, just... thinking." Jongin said, blinking a few times, fighting back a yawn. Kyungsoo smiled. "About what?" He asked, scribbling some stuff down on his clipboard. "Oh, just... the paitients."

Kyungsoo rolled his eyes. "You are always thinking about the paitients." He mumbled, loud enough for him to want Jongin to hear. "It's like you think of nothing else." He said, a bit louder.

"I do think of other stuff." Jongin said, matter of factly.

     "And what is that?"

     "You."

It had been a year, a year to start their romance. It came off as a suprise to their colleagues, when they announced it a week or two after. But it had only taken a year, for Jongin to propose.

And it only took a week, for a few paitients, after Jongin and Kyungsoo had announced their wedding, to go missing. Never had the asylum had recorded paitients going missing. But, the paitients were: 092192
, 080189, 032690, 051589, 030989, and paitient no. 112792.

There was no evidence of who left, other than the empty room. The paitients had left their belongings.

Except paitient no. 112792. In his room, across the empty wall, was a picture. The inspectors had found and had called Dr. Kim Jongin to go see it.

Jongin had went into the room, and what had caught his eyes was the writing splayed across the wall in red writing like blood. Jongin had turned a blind eye to it, until the officer had showed the picture that was in front of the empty wall.

It was a picture of Jongin. It wasn't a picture that was supposed to be taken, not like a grad photo or a childhood photo, or something of the sort. It was a picture that was taken when Jongin wasn't looking. He had his back turned, and his head was slightly tilted to the left, he was looking at something that way, and he wore his plain clothes he wouldn't have worn inside the asylum.

A shiver went up his spine. He heard the blood-curlding cackle that belonged to Park Chanyeol echo through his mind, and it loomed over him, taunted him. It scared him. And he looked up, to the wall, the words, that were written in what looked like blood, Jongin nearly screamed.
