Fan fiction vs reality - where do you draw the line?

Last night, I posted a poll asking how far from reality stories should be.  So far, most of you that voted said the stories should be quite close to reality, but you could live with a few differences.  (If you didn't vote in that poll, you can do so below.)

I will assume that this doesn't count science fiction or fantasy stories, because they are usually from an unreal universe to begin with already.

Now, I want to know how different you would allow it to be, or not to be.  First question: what specific differences from reality would you NOT allow or accept in a story?

Then, what specific differences from reality WOULD you allow or accept in a story?

Yes, they kind of are the same question, but the first one says what you WOULD NOT allow, and the second says what you WOULD allow.  So, maybe you wouldn't want me to write a story about a character who is a ballet dancer if the real person isn't trained as a bellet dancer, but you would accept if my character spoke perfect English when, in reality, they can't speak a word of English at all.  Or maybe they can own a restaurant, but they can't be gender-bending.  Or whatever.  Let me know in the comments.  I want to write a story that does differ a little from reality, and I want to know if to publish it here or not.  I will write it, no matter what, but I might only publish it on my own site or just keep it for myself ^_^
