— Jang Chaewon was born in oslo, norway in 19th december 1997. she was born premature, a month early and that time, the jang household were having a vacation in norway. her mother said that the day she was born was very cold and the snowstorm was raging during the labour. the next morning though, when the family left the hospital, the weather was perfect and the snow were the whitest they had ever seen.
Chaewon grows up in a small family consisting of father, jang minguk, her mother, moon saeyoung, her older brother, jang daehan, and her little sister, jang yejin. her family was fairly rich that time, jang minguk was a successful painter and moon saeyoung was a successful businesswoman with her newly opened cafe, the lab.
growing up, minguk always taught his children to be independent and never show their weakness to everyone. minguk made sure that his children remembers that even one day, the person they count on the most would fail them; like how parents would grow old and leave their children to survive alone in this world, so they have to be able to depend on themselves.
having a painter as a father made art became a part of chaewon's life too. aside from painting, his father was also good at playing guitar and her mother could sing. so she and her siblings loved to spend the day playing with minguk's paint or watch their parents set up their own 'concert' which basically just saeyoung singing while minguk played the guitar, but it was a beautiful and soothing sight.
on 2003, saeyoung enrolled chaewon into a ballet class after chaewon watched barbie: swan lake and begged her that chaewon wanted to dance like odette. indeed, chaewon showed her potential. in a short span of time, chaewon became one of the top ballerinas in the class and was often praised by teacher for her dancing skill. she also participated in a lot of recitals and competition.
it was on 2005 that minguk put chaewon into singing class, basically because he loved listening to chaewon humming along to his guitar; who knows, maybe the kid has potential. and her teacher did say that chaewon had a promising potential inside of her. her brother minguk was in the same vocal class as her and was often the object of teacher (and also other parents') praise because he had a beautiful voice.
the idea of auditioning for an entertainment company was first brought up by chaewon's aunt in 2006. that time she and jang household watched chaewon's ballet recital. her parents thought of it as a joke because chaewon was only 9, there's no way an entertainment would accept a trainee in such young age. but in the end, they did accompany chaewon for an audition in cube entertainment.
she didn't pass and her family was a bit dissapointed but hey, you'll never nkow unless you try, right? several months after that, chaewon auditioned for loen entertainment and she was accepted!
chaewon was a trainee under loen for a year before she braved herself to audition for yg entertainment. it was daehan's idea at first; watching those trainees come and go from the lab, it's such a cool feeling. and daehan had talent, so the two siblings auditioned for a place in yg entertainment and by the heaven's blessing, they were accepted. so chaewon left loen and became a trainee under yg in 2008.
she stayed in yg until late 2010, where a problem with another trainee happened and chaewon left the company. after yg, chaewon tried auditioning in sm and she was accepted for her outstanding skill that same day. chaewon was instantly listed under the smrookies.

auditioned for cube entertainment and got rejected. she auditioned after her aunt persuaded her parents to let her apply for an audition because apparently, she had outstanding skills. it was ironic that she wasn't accepted even though she had outstanding skills. even so, her parents encouraged Chaewon to practise harder and her hard work paid off later that year, when she got accepted into loen entertainment.

in 2008, Chaewon and her brother daehan auditioned at yg entertainment and by the heaven's blessing, they were accepted. she honestly thought it was a joke that she got accepted (well, her brother has always been an excel in everything so she wasn't surprised), but yeah, in the end, she left fnc and trained in yg.

through her years in yg, Chaewon and her brother met kim jiwon, or bobby, and a young female trainee named kim dain. daehan and bobby became friends quickly, while Chaewon, due to her shy nature, stuck to daehan a lot more than she dared to admit. at first she was hesitant towards bobby but bobby welcomed her warmly and even tried to reduce the awkward situation (which took him a long time), eventually Chaewon warmed up to him.
dain, on the other hand, proclaimed that Chaewon was her friend the moment she laid eyes on Chaewon. the latter thought otherwise and would stutter and frown each time dain got a little too touchy. gosh, she even dared to intrude the bobby-daehan-Chaewon bubble.

during this year, chaewon also heard of rumors about hyunsuk considering to form a new girlgroup. it wasn't confirmed and she didn't pay any mind to it but dain got very excited. i can't wait until yg form a new girl group, she said, i've been dreaming for this my whole life.
again, chaewon didn't pay too much attention to it but one day, in the middle of november, yang hyunsuk himself approached her when she's stuffing in yg cafetaria.
"i've been wondering if i should form a girl group." he said after he greeted her.
"oh." was chaewon's only reply.
hyunsuk smiled at her and nothing could've ever prepared chaewon from what he said next.
"if i were to make a girl group and choose you as the first line-up for it, would you accept it?"
and of course, chaewon said yes.
after that, of course chaewon ran to dain to tell her about the good news. she honestly thought dain would be happy for her. i mean, yg was planning to debut a girlgroup, surely someone as talented as dain would be picked too, right? maybe yg would come to dain later!
dain's reaction, however, were very different than what chaewon had in mind. dain was angry that yg didn't come to her and came to chaewon instead. she's the one who helped chaewon each time she's struggling with new dance moves and hitting the notes, so why didn't yg come to her?
chaewon realized then that dain wasn't always an angel. dain was vain, yes, and sometimes she can be jealous and self-centered, but chaewon never thought dain's selfishness and jealousy was that bad.
dain's wrath wasn't a pretty sight. she completely ignored chaewon and alienated her. chaewon coudln't even talk to her other friends because, darn it, her friends were also dain's friend and dain was always with them so there's no way chaewon could approach her friends then.
in the end, chaewon got fed up and confronted dain and yes, a huge fight was inevitable. dain said that yg should've come to her instead of chaewon, that chaewon had just crushed her dream of debuting, that dain had been a trainee longer than chaewon. chaewon exploded, calling dain stupid because the line-up wasn't even official, that yg's decision can always be changed, that yg would probably put her into the line-up soon and it's stupid for dain to worry about things that she shouldn't worry about.
neither would admit defeat. dain was too proud and chaewon too angry. they had numerous fights again after that and in the end, chaewon just couldn't stand it anymore. if dain wanted her place that badly, then chaewon would give it to her. so she walked into the ceo's office and said that she couldn't do this anymore and she's tired and she wanted to quit yg.
hyunsuk was surprised, of course, and said that her decision was very unwise, but chaewon, above all, were still young, above her skills, she's still a 13 year old girl in her puberty. chaewon insisted and finally, yg gave in. his last words were, "if you want to be an idol you should change this side of you."
in the end, she left yg. she didn't tell anyone about it. she didn't tell daehan, she didn't tell bobby, she didn't tell her family. she knew if she told them they won't appreciate her decision. but even without her telling, sooner or later daehan would've known, and daehan would tell mom and dad, and of course her parents + daehan would lecture her. so chaewon had to do something. fast.
the next day, chaewon went to two companies, star empire and sm entertainment to audition for a place in the company. she wasn't sure at first but she knew with her skills, she would pass sm's audition, but... no-one can really predict that, so she picked star empire for back up. chaewon auditioned in both company, with songs she prepared the previous night (she slept at one in the morning for this). after her audition, she didn't go straight home, instead, she spent her time in the bookstore, where she found her peace of mind and bought two new books.
she went home after that, contemplating whether she should tell her family or not about her audition yet before she could make any decision, the phone rang and her mother picked it up with,
"yes, jang residence. jang chaewon? audition? passed?"
six hours after her audition, she was accepted into sm entertainment. that day was the luckiest day in her life.
her family weren't actually pleased about her leaving yg over such 'simple' thing but well, their daughter made it into sm! so they celebrated it with a bit of annoyance because of chaewon's reckless decision.
Chaewon was instantly enlisted in the smrookies and yes, sm was very different with yg. for once, there's no daehan or bobby. she's alone. but then, she met kang seulgi and she treated chaewon warmly, the two became acquaintance and acquaintance became friends. seulgi became the sister chaewon never had and chaewon became the little sister seulgi never had.
of course she realized how dumb of her to left yg, part of her still missed her friends in yg, especially dain but she also made new friends in sm, like yeri and jeno. things, she thought, got better in the end.

bobby is also confident and sure of himself. he's sure of what he wants and what he believes, once he sets his goal, he'll do whatever he can to reach it. he's passionate about his work and he knows his weaknesses and power. bobby can handle criticism well, he knows how to filter the criticism that purely comes from hate, from the criticism that can make him a better person. he's eager to learn. he's also straight-forward, even blunt. he's also adventurous and a risk-taker, he has a fairly positive view towards life.
bobby is a hard worker, the negative comments people throw at him don't bring him down; instead he used it to motivate himself more. bobby practised hard to prove that those people are wrong and to show them that he's not simply someone to be looked down upon. he hates being underestimated and will do anything to prove those people wrong.

how they met »
— the fateful encounter was in 2009. chaewon, her little sister yejin and her parents were working in the lab. daehan were still practising in yg. the lab were a bit empty that time, only one or two customer. it was 11 o'clock; too early for lunch and too late for breakfast.
chaewon were wiping off coffee stains from the table when the shop bell rings and the door opens; indicating there's a customer coming. she looked up and saw daehan entering the coffee shop with a guy trailing behind him.
the boy was skinny, his hair was hidden under his dark blue beanie and he wears brown, thick framed glasses that made chaewon cringed inwardly. she had a good guess about this new kid, daehan had been talking about this new friend he got in yg for the past two days; this boy was probably daehan's new friend.
there was nothing special about their first encounter, really. after introducing bobby to yejin and her parents, daehan and bobby sat down on daehan's favorite spot in the lab; near the window and a bit to the back. of course, chaewon apporached them to get their orders.
there wasn't anything special, as soon as chaewon was close enough, daehan introduced her to bobby saying, "hey, this is bobby! bobby, this is my sister chaewon."
bobby looked at her and a kind smile bloomed in his face, a smile that left chaewon a bit stunned.
his smile was pretty. bobby's eyes disappeared into eyesmile and his smile was wide, showing a set of big, bunny teeth. chaewon had been a er for people with pretty smile and that day, she was fully captivated by bobby's smile.
he said, "oh, so you're chaewon," the boy grinned wider, "daehan said you were really talented, it's nice to meet you."
and like the shy little girl chaewon is, she replied with a small, shy smile.
the lab got a new regular after that and when bobby was around, chaewon, though she would never admit it, would admire him bobby from afar, like a stalker, and let herself got a bit excited time she managed to get a glimpse of his smile.
what they're like »
— at first they were like total strangers. chaewon would get very awkward around bobby and bobby doesn't really know how to act around chaewon. daehan were their only bridge and eventually the two became friends.
it was chaewon who fell for bobby first, though she would never admit it. chaewon fell for his personality. the small act of kindness he does (and often overlooked by others), the way his eyes would soften when they're talking about his family and the way he smiles. chaewon, of course, hides her feelings very well so unless you're very good at reading a person and has been stalking her for a long time, you'd never guess she has a special feelings towards bobby.
they are good friends, they've known each other for long. bobby has known chaewon's perfection and imperfections, her beauty and her scars, and vice versa. they're the best of friends and chaewon would sometimes tell bobby her worries (when she can't hold it in any longer) and bobby would share his dreams and passion with her.
the two of them are always having fun, going to the new amusement park, watching a movie together, or play video games together. together they would make the lamest joke and would laugh about it, they can talk about anything and they can stay in comfortable silence. they chat through kakao talk or line.
when people see them, they wouldn't see them as lovers; they're too similar for that. instead, people would see them as good friends who's having fun, or siblings.
yeah, siblings. that's why chaewon would never admit her feelings. after all, bobby only sees her as his best friend's little sister, if not his own little sister, right?
that's alright because chaewon is already content in being in this state of relationship with bobby. she never let herself hoped more because the posibility of them having a romantic relationship is just a big fat zero. yeah, she's fine with admiring him from afar and loving him silently.
because there's no way bobby would ever see her as something more than his little sister or his best friend, right? the act of kindness he does, his shy smile, the skinship he sometimes initiates, it was simply because he sees her as his best friend or even sister, right?
