Subscribers only?

What do you think of story that is for subscribers only? What do you think of the author who do that?
I'm just wondering since I'm an author myself..
Does it annoy you or you think it's fine?
I'm just trying to improve myself and no, my story are not for subscribers only..

I don’t mind subscriber only stories, but what I hate is subscriber only stories that only have the foreword written and they haven’t even started writing the story because why did you waste my time? If you’re the type of person who tells people to subscribe to a story and haven’t written anything you don’t deserve people to subscribe to your story.

I personally don't appreciate it. It's a ploy to get karma, I know, but I would hate it if it took away my Karma points. Since I don't lose karma, it doesn't hurt me any. I just subscribe, and if I don't like it, I unsubscribe.

I have no problem at all with subs only fic. I do understand that the authors also wants to know who reads their story.

I am a reader and i am okay with subscribe only, sometimes ithere are a lot good story but the reader look like don't care, like there is only bit subscribers and comments but alot views. Sometimes, that really make the author sad. So if i like the story i will subscribe and make a comment...

I prefer not to read subs only stories. Though I can understand if the content requires trigger warning etc. I'm sure the authors have their reasons. It's not up to me to judge them.

I have two stories out at the same time and both are subscribers only. One of them, His Alibi is trigger warning, mature and member only. I'm not expecting for it to be a big hit because of the material. The other one is Beauty Before Beast and it started out as a general audience story but I changed it to subscriber only since I don't want the feed all over the net. I want to promote Asianfanfics.

For me it doesn’t matter if the story is on subscribers only or not. If I like it, I’ll subscribe to it. But as for my stories, I used to have my main story (and the only one, except for the one-shot) on subs only because at first I wanted to know if people will like the idea. But now I changed it because I noticed people subscribed to it and then unsubscribe. It doesn’t bother me tho, I know my writing skills are bad, haha. I'll still write it for my own satisfaction. Also I’m very picky to the stories I’m subscribing to and I never unsubscribe.

I don't write but know people who do and hear their frustrations. I don't know why it would be annoying to push a button . That's all we do on this www. Lol. You don't have to sub if you don't want to. I've been on this site for a few years now and I think the least I can do is push a button for someone's hard work and free entertainment! People don't seem to vote for stories very often or comment either (on some really good stories too), so I think besides the obvious update notifications, the author puts sub-only for a little validation maybe, in order to gauge popularity or interest and yeah, probably draw in a reader or two. You can usually read a bit of the story before you sub anyway and un-sub if you don't like it. I do. Maybe people should think of it less as a hindrance or favor and more of a thank you? But honestly, who cares why. The author wrote something you might like and enjoy reading, or maybe they didn't, but would the click of a button be too much to ask? It's their story, not yours. As long as I get to read them, I'm happy!

I do that. It's because I want my readers to stay updated whenever I post a chapter. So yeah only for chaptered fics. But oneshots is fine without the subscribers only option. Since it's already completed

I know this one author who puts her stories to subs-only because her intention was to reduce people interest in reading her stories.:)

As for me, I have no problem at all with subs-only fic. :))

technically, you can still read a subscribers-only story without subscribing ;-) or at least, some of it...lol sometimes i'll look at the first chapter and then decide whether i want to subscribe or not. however, it doesn't deter me from reading a story if a writer has it on subscribers-only /shrugs. if it turns out that i don't like the story then i simply unsubscribe.

as a writer, most of my fics are on subscribers-only because 1) the content is explicit, rated and 2) idowantmoresubscribers lolz

I'm one of those people Sempiternalis talks about who writes sensitive topics that might trigger and some (not all!) of my stories with trigger warnings are subs-only in the hope that people read the foreword (and therefore the trigger warnings) and are aware of what they're going into. I don't find my stories "horrible" enough for the trigger-warning tag however (I also dislike it for all the restrictions it automatically puts on a story) which is why I don't trigger-warn them as such. It's not so much to gain subscribers because that means very little to me.

I believe most authors do it for subs though, but I'm not one to discriminate. Does it annoy me when I read? Sometimes, not always. It's a little ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm most annoyed when shops and contests are subscribers only without listing rules or cheatsheets or something very relevant on their foreword so I am forced to subscribe just to realise I don't want to be a part of that. For stories it doesn't really bother me much.

Using the feature as a way to counteract plagiarism isn't all that beneficial. People can still subscribe and steal your content anyway. The best thing you can do to prevent plagiarism is disallowing text selection. There are ways around that, too, but only highly dedicated people would go out of their way to find one.

Imo, people who have their stories under subscribers-only either write about sensitive topics which may trigger readers, or they simply want to have as many subscribers as possible. It is a bit annoying when new stories are put under subscribers-only, because there's barely any content to judge on whether it's worth the subscribe or not. In the end, though, it's the author's choice. I don't really see a reason behind it other than having as many subscribers and karma as possible. If you list your story as trigger warning, it's gonna be subscribers only anyways. So it just boils down to personal choice. Personally, I don't make my stories subscribers only, because I don't want potential readers to have to subscribe in order to read my content and I also get more satisfaction when someone subscribes simply because they want to.

If you subscribe to a story, then the author will know you like it and wish to support it. The subscribers-only feature kind of takes that away. It only tells 'yeah, I'm subscribing because otherwise I couldn't read this'.

I don't think there is any good reason for "Subscribers only" at all. Plagiarism can be prevented simply by disallowing text selection, so there's no need for it there. People will unsubscribe if they don't like your story anyway, so using that feature to reel in subscribers can make you potentially lose just as much as somebody who doesn't use that feature. I find it annoying that some authors feel the need to tax readers that much.

I hate it when I have to sub only to then close the said story(s) because it wasn't my cup of tea and have the story(s) still in my sub list. I like to keep my subscription list amazingly clean and neat so it's pretty annoying when some people are fussy and feel the need to set it to subs only.

It does bothers me sometimes because i think quality is better than quantity. However, i understand if they(authors) have good reasons for making the 'subscribers only' for example, so that there will be no plagiarism and stuff like that or they wanna catch the readers' attentions.
