And the Last Shall Be First

Description

Heechul buys drugs wholesale and has a crew that distributes street level. Kyuhyun is the leader of a stick-up crew that targets drug dealers for their valuables. Their paths cross and a war fueled by pride, ambition, and bullets begins.

There's going to be quite a bit of slang. If you don't know what some of the terms mean, ask. I'll be happy to explain.

Foreword

“They're having another party on Friday. I want to make sure I have enough. Those parties get big.” Heechul looked at his friends at the table.

“Like how many are you going for?” Leeteuk asked.

“One-hundred. I can unload that.”

“One-hundred?” he asked in unison with Kangin.

“Easily,” Heechul replied confidently. He took another drink of his tea. As he set the cup down, his eyes wandered over to a boy at the arcade machine. The boy was rapidly pressing buttons, making loud clicking noises. He was actually quite distracting once one noticed him.

“You’re really taking off,” Leeteuk said with a hint of admiration in his voice.

“Well, you know how these entitled frat-house-s think. They want to take a load off and they’ll use any excuse they can to do it. Besides, if they don’t get it from me, they’ll get it from somebody else. It might as well be me,” Heechul explained bringing his attention back to his friends.

Kangin chuckled. “Is that your business plan?”

“Something like that.” Heechul took one last sip of his tea and got up from his seat without explaining where he was going despite his friends' questions. He walked over to the boy at the arcade machine. The boy didn't even spare him a glance. Heechul thought this was rude but didn't call him out on it when he saw just how much he was into the video game. Every once in a while the boy would remember to close his mouth, otherwise he would let his jaw hang open, concentrating instead on pushing just the right buttons to do his character’s special combo.

“Hey, kid,” Heechul tried to get his attention.

“Yeah?” the boy didn't look away from the screen.

“Some score you got there, kid,” Heechul said.

“The name’s Kyuhyun,” he said, irritated at being called 'kid'. “I'm the best here. All the top scores are mine. You can see for yourself after I beat this guy.” He still couldn't be bothered to take his eyes off of the screen.

“Well, Kyuhyun, I bet I can take you down.”

That caught his attention. Finally looking up at Heechul, taking in the sight before him, he said “You? You think you could take me on?” He couldn't believe that the feminine guy standing in front of him could possibly beat him at any game, let alone this particular game – the game he's played every day after school for the past semester. He squinted at Heechul, and decided that the best thing to do would be to teach him a lesson in challenging him to a game. He smirked. “I'd like to see you try.”

Heechul was thrown off for a split second by the smirk that was just directed at him. He was used to seeing that smirk but when he did it was through a mirror.

He shook the surprise away. “I'm the hyung. I'm buying,” he said in an attempt to feel like the authority again. Heechul took coins out of his pocket and inserted them into the coin slot.

“Hyung?” Kyuhyun asked suspiciously. He inspected Heechul’s face. His skin was perfectly kept without a trace of the usual imperfections that make their way onto a man’s face. The only thing that would tip the age scales on Heechul’s side would be his deep voice as Kyuhyun’s voice was still developing. You don't look like a hyung to me.”

“I'll take that as a compliment… Best of three?”

“Fine. That just means we’ll play two rounds `cause that’s all I’ll need.”

The first round caught Kyuhyun off guard. He really thought that Heechul had been bluffing. For the second round he put in more effort and won. He wished he could take the third round back, especially after he heard the girly hyung next to him laugh his head off as he K.O.’d his fighter.

Heechul leaned forward and smirked. It was Kyuhyun’s turn to be taken aback by what he saw- that was his smirk but on someone else’s face.

“Be careful, kid. Don’t ever underestimate anyone. But don’t overestimate anyone either because that means you’re underestimating yourself," Heechul said as he fixed Kyuhyun’s tie.

Kyuhyun couldn’t decide if those were the most profound words he’d ever heard spoken or the ramblings of the most peculiar creature he’d ever met. He looked down at his school uniform and looked back up at Heechul's retreating figure.
