Prologue

She woke up when the sips of sunlight shine through her eyes. Surprisingly, when she opened her eyes, everything was white.

Is this heaven? She thought.

She turned her head towards the source of light, only to find that there was a window, and in it, there was the sun. Oh… so this is not heaven. I am not dead, but where am I? She thought again.

She could smell the scent of chlorine mixed with some sort of detergent. Hm… sanitizing smell… she thought. Then she tried to sit up, but she couldn’t, because her right hand was tied to the bed by a pair of handcuffs.

She was instantly wide-awake. What happened here? Why I am in a hospital? Why am I tied to the handcuffs? Who am I? Her head feels dizzy, but she had to find out what in the world is happening.

The door opened, and a woman wearing a white coat came in. Her petite yet well-built figure made her look cute and y. She had blonde hair, which made her look like a real-life Barbie.

“Hello there, how are you doing today?” the woman spoke in English

“Where am I?” she asked, in the same language.

The woman, slightly surprised by the response, blinked and said, “You are in the Beth-Israel hospital of New York. Do you remember anything that happened before you came here?”

“No… I don’t remember anything. Why am I in handcuffs?” she asked

“Well… it says in the report that we found you in the garage, unconscious due to a serious concussion you have suffered.” The woman said while looking into a clipboard of papers, “Do you remembered what happened?”

“No… I don’t” she touched her head, and felt the bandages around it.

“Looks like you are suffering from memory loss. The police are investigating on your case, that’s why you were in handcuffs. They will be coming here shortly.”

She breathed in slowly, “Thanks. But do you know my name?”

“Let me see” The woman looked through the pages, “Ahh, your name is Yuri Kwon.”

“Thank you doctor Jung,” She looked at her nametag, “Can you let me rest for a bit please?”

“Sure. I will come back to check you out later.” Dr. Jung said as she put the clipboard down and slowly exits the door, leaving her patient to rest.

The door swung open again and Yuri opened her eyes almost immediately. How long have I slept? She wondered. She saw someone approaching her. In fact, that someone was a man with broad shoulders and a well-built figure. He wore a black suit, and as he approached Yuri, she began to see his nametag.

Taecyeon Ok. The nametag reads.

Well that sounds familiar…

“Hello there Yuri, I am Taecyeon, and I will be investigating on your case.” He smiled as he held his nametag out.

“I will leave you guys now” Dr. Jung appeared behind Taecyeon and exited the scene once again.

Once the door was shut, Taecyeon’s face changed immediately. He was no longer the friendly looking guy a few minutes ago; he turned serious and gave her the death glare that could kill anyone by just looking into his eyes. He was surrounded by an aura to kill.

“Yuri, Yuri, Kwon Yuri.” Taecyeon spoke in Korean, “Why are you such a rat?”

“What?” Yuri looked at him with disbelief

“What? You don’t remember who I am?” Taecyeon raised an eyebrow

“You are the cop investigating on my case right?”

“Oh wow, looks like you have lost your memory too. Good, that means I have hit you hard enough on the head.” Taecyeon smiled, “But too bad, you still have to die.”

“Wait what?” Yuri said, “What is going on? Who are you?”

“Who I am doesn’t matter anymore, I will inject this poison to your bloodstream” Taecyeon held up a Syringe filled with a transparent liquid, “And in a matter of seconds, you will begin to feel numb and dizzy. Your world will begin to spin and before you know it, you will be gone from this world.” Taecyeon smiled.

He then held her left hand up, and attempted to inject the poison into her wrist.

“Bye bye, Yuri.” Taecyeon said one last time.

Yuri can only watch helplessly as the needle touches her skin. She will die without knowing what happened, without knowing who she was, and why this is happening. This was her fate.
