Whenever families came to visit the orphanage, the children would dress up neatly and act on their best behavior.  All the orphans would compete to earn favor in hopes of joining a new family.  Every one of us wanted a family. 

Unlike my best friend, I was never called "cute" or "pretty."  My art drawings never made it to the charity auctions we had every Christmas.  There was not one single dance recital where I haven't fell.  You would always find me singing in the very back of the choir.  

All the others were good at something.  Some were even multi-talented.  I, on the other hand, never stood a chance.

So when they chose me, I believed with all my heart, that I was the luckiest girl on earth.  

But why can't I feel that way now?
