An Anthology of the Heartbroken and Heartless

Description

It is awfully hard to imagine a world without Love. Love, love, love. This fickle little creature creeps into our lives when we least expect (or want) it. It buries itself between the lines of anxious text messages and transfigures its form to appear in every inanimate object. But even Love needs love. And it finds that its best counterpart is Romance. But Love is not the greatest sweet-talker, and just like humans, Love struggles to express its insurmountable emotions. And so, Love doesn't always win Romance with a triumphant hurrah, and often sidles with the safety of Heartbreak. It is easier this way.

The end of Romance's round, and the beginning of Heartbreak's. It isn't always a painful transition, and the outcome is not always catastrophic. But damn, it hurts like hell.

Foreword

"To the boy who stole my first bike, and rode down the street dragging my childish little heart along with it ..."

"To the repugnant, horrendous, disgusting jerk who seduced me with a revenge plot ..."

"To the one who was obviously a mistake, but a pretty attractive one at that ..."

"To you, who spoonfed me cliches and made my skin tingle with too much happiness ..."

All of these beginnings are lying on my desk. I am careful to unwrap each delicate piece of paper; some typed, some handwritten. The advertisement for the collection was only sent out last week but this response is phenomenal. All of these fractured little hearts stamped with ink are waiting to be read and to be acknowledged. This is my thesis project. An exploration into the nature of love and its ultimate demise. These battered antiquated stories collecting dust in history but shimmering brightly in the memories of their witnesses will not be buried like a deceased family member. They will be immortalised, appreciated, remembered. For on my desk, these letters are not only addressed to ex-lovers but to a society crooning at the notion of a happily ever after. They are stories - there is a beginning and there is an ending.

A/N: If nothing is clear at the moment, this will comprise of a letter a chapter that is dedicated to unravelling a love story. These will all be different accounts on a relationship - most turning out pretty tragic. There may be some rated language and mature content and those chapters will be marked. The individuals "writing" these love letters will be from a range of different groups because diversity woo! So if any of you (if there is anyone out there) would like a specific person or pairing you can comment below and I'll try and get to it!

Inspired by Jenny Han's 'To All the Boys I've Loved Before' and Yoko Ono's Wish Tree art installations.
