"Thanks for the interview." Opening the trunk of my van, I reached in to grab a plastic bag. "Bum relief bag."

She looked at me hesitantly, with a hint of desperation in her eyes. "But I'm not a bum. I'm a human being."

"Whatever you say, bum." I turned around, tossing my notepad and pencil in the back, wanting to leave the cold as quickly as possible. The loud slamming of the door echoed through the crisp icy air. I see her small shivering body wrapped around in an old worn out coat. I turn on the heater of my car, warming myself up as I begin to drive off.

I check the mirror to confirm my make up, then my clothes to see if I had gotten ing to her. My fur coat wasn't dirtied, luckily, my dress pants weren't stained and I looked fairly good. Shifting my eyes to the edge of the mirror, I realize she's still looking at me.

Disgusting. I thought. She was wrapped in two or three coats, all several sizes too large for her. Piss stained pants with worn out sneakers. A dirty beanie and ripped gloves. I was forced by my boss to interview homeless people on the streets to broaden my views on people. All it did was broaden my dislike for people like her.

I stepped on the pedal, moving faster and farther away from her.

Before I turned, I look back at the woman one last time.

Snow fell leisurely. The sky was gray and the clouds became fog turning everything white. The only contrasting color was the red shade of her face and the brown box she sat on top.

I spent my winter with my boyfriend back at our heated house.

She spent winter in a cardboard box.
