A Song Calling For You

Jinki drummed his fingers impatiently on the table. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead despite the full blast of the air conditioner.
He glanced at his watch as he adjusted his spectacle which was slipping of his nose bridge. Why isn’t she here yet? It’s past 2.30.
Looking around he searched for her but she was nowhere to be seen. His patience was thinning.

“Excuse me? Sorry for bothering you but will you please give the drumming a rest? People are trying to concentrate. ” he heard a voice say.
He looked up and his heart nearly stopped beating when he saw her standing there, hugging a 2 inch thick book on Ancient Egypt.
She didn’t seem annoyed though, instead she was smiling. He stared at her. He knew it was rude to stare but he couldn’t help it. This was the first since the term started she had actually spoken to him. Jinki was convinced that he was having the sweetest dream of his life. He could see stars sparkling and even feel comforting breeze blowing.

“Hello?” she said, waving her hand in front of his face. He showed no reaction. He was still gawking at her.“Hey!” she exclaimed, snapping her fingers.
He realized it wasn’t a dream. This is real. She is real.
He felt his throat became dry, making him swallow hard. He moistened his lips.
She looked at him with raised eyebrows as his face turned pale.
“Are you okay? You don’t look so good. ” She said, as she nonchalantly placed her palm on his forehead.
He gasped and held his breath, freezing. Having no idea how to react to the situation he frantically gathered his books and scrambled onto his feet.

“What?” she asked, bringing her brows together, wrinkling her forehead.

He looked at her for a second before he started running. And thanks to his ‘klutz-gene’ he stepped on his shoelace and tripped over, landing on the floor with a huge thud, sending his books and his thick-framed spectacles flying.

There was a moment of pin drop silence before the whole library burst out into laughter. Everyone was pointing their finger at him and laughed, except for her. She frowned as she looked around at the laughing crowd.

“Come on people. CUT IT OUT!” she shouted.

The laughter died off. Great job at making a fool out of yourself Lee Jinki.

Throwing him sympathetic look, she held his arm. Helping him up she dusted his uniform.

“What’s happening here?" They heard Miss Kim, the school librarian ask. "This is a library not a fish market. There are signs saying ‘Silence Please’ at every corner of this place. Is it so hard to keep quiet?” she said in a surprisingly calm voice.

“Sorry, Miss. ” She said, lowering her head.

Why is she apologizing? I caused the chaos, Jinki thought. If someone has to apologize it should be me.

He knew it was the right thing to do. He opened his mouth to speak up, but words simply wouldn’t escape his lips. And when he realized that Sunyoung was still holding his arm, he unknowingly panicked. He roughtly pulled his arm away, picked up his scattered books and took off.

“I’m such a douche bag!” Jinki cursed himself, as he tugged a handful of his hair. I can’t believe ran away. God! Kill me! I’m just a burden to this earth, absolutely useless.

He sprawled on the grass, hoping that the earth will open and swallow him alive. Sighing, he stared at the darkening sky.
I wonder what time is it..hmmm...

He closed his eyes and let his mind drift off to a place he favorites the most, the place where he and Sunyoung had a life. Together.
He still remember the day he first saw her. She was the daughter of the chairman of the school board director. Came back to Korea after living in the States since she was 2 years old. She wasn't like how he'd expected her to be, spoilt and rude, like how most rich kids in his school were. In fact she was the total opposite,she had a soothing smile,a pleasant voice and friendly attitude that made people around her comfortable and warm. He wanted to get to know her, but being a self-proclaimed loser, he decided not to. If he did do something and it goes wrong ( which happens 99% of the time),that will be the end of him.
I'd rather watch her from far and be happy then trying something that will ruin the tiny contentment i get every time i look at her. He breathed out heavily.

"Waiting for the sky to fall on you?" a familiar voice asked.

His eyes popped open and his gaze fell on her flawless face. He shot up and got onto his feet. Panicking again.

"Hey, chill. I don't bite." she assured.

Don't forget to breath, he reminded himself.

"So, this is your secret hideout?" she asked, taking a step closer to him.

He hung his head down and slowly nodded.

"Your name is Jinki, isn't?" she asked, studying him.

He looked up in surprise. "You..you know my name?"

She gave a smile as an answer. It relaxed him.

"Come on, let's sit." she said, as sat on the grass. He looked at her with disbelief. He couldn't digest the fact that he was actually having a proper conversation with her.

"Here." she said, patting the space beside her. He hesitated and she sensed it.

"You know, if you feel like i'm invading your space and want me to leave just tell me. I'll go."

"NO! I mean..no..i'll just.." lost for words he sat down beside her.

They sat in silence for a moment before she broke it, "My dad told me." she said.

"Huh?" he responded, confused.

"Your name." She said, tucking her hair behind her ears. "My dad told me. He likes you alot. Said you're a genius. I noticed too."

She noticed me.

"I wish i was as smart as you and could make my mum proud." she said, her eyes fixed on him.

"Trust me. You do not want to be me." Jinki said,crossing his legs. "I'm not a genius, just a math geek."

"Hey, don't say that."

"But that's the truth. That's what everyone calls me. You're the second person in this school, besides my best friend Jonghyun, who has called me by my name."

What am i doing? Ranting about my pathetic life to her.

Jinki studied her. Her deer like eyes glowed beautifully.

"You are staring..again." she said with her eyebrows raised and a tiny smile.

"Sor..sorry." Jinki apologized,blushing.

"You stare alot don't you?" Sunyoung said, making Jinki's already blushing face flush even more.
Excellent, now she thinks i'm a closeted pervert.
"Am i making you uncomfortable?" she asked when she saw him shift uneasily.
"No..no you're not. It's just that..you might have noticed, i don't have many friends. My social skill isn't very well developed."
She nodded, pressing her lips together. "I understand."
And awkward silence took over again. Okay, Jinki you'll never get a chance like this again. Just ask her.
Drawing a breath of determination he turned to her. "Sunyoung-sshi." he called.
"Yeah?" she responded.
Okay, here we go.
"Do you..will you.." he stuttered.
She blinked a few times, waiting for him to complete his sentence. The confidence he built shred into pieces as soon as he saw her face. Why on earth would a beautiful girl like her go out with me?
"Do you like Ancient History?" he asked and mentally slapped himself. Good job Jinki, you never fail to screw up.
"Ancient History?" she asked.
"Yes.. i saw you holding a book on it at the library today. So i was just wondering.."
"Yeah..i do like Ancient History." she answered. "Are you sure that is what you wanted to ask?"
"Yes,that's it. Nothing else." he said, nodding.
She cleared throat. "Okay..ummm..i got to go now. It's getting late. I'll see you around." she said standing up.
"I should go too." Jinki followed suit.
"Good, let's walk together then." she suggested.
Her words made a wide smile appear on his face. "Okay, let's go."

So that was the first chapter. Sorry for any spelling/grammatical/or any sort of error...^^
