Foreword

Welcomed?

“Ryeowook," Leeteuk called out softly to his brother and received a soft reply back.

“Yes, Hyung? Is everything okay?" Ryeowook asked softly with confusion.

“You know how...Appa and Umma had those necklaces?" Leeteuk asked as he too recalled a memory of his parents wearing necklaces as they danced on the dance floor on his 13th birthday.

Ryeowook tilted his head, “The ones they always wear, Hyung? Appa wears one with wing pendants that have a red ruby? While Umma wears one with a wing pendant but with a blue sapphire? Those necklaces?"

Leeteuk nodded in reply, “Do you know what they stand for, Wookie?"

Ryeowook raised an eyebrow and shook his head, “Sorry Hyung...but I don't know. Can you tell me if you know?"

Leeteuk smiled beautifully, “Of course! Follow me, I'll take you to them."

Leeteuk and Ryeowook exited the library and entered a huge room with white furniture and walls while the books were different colors and the door was black. Leeteuk approached two glass clear tanks with purple pillows inside of them; with a necklace on top of each.

Ryeowook widened his eyes and touched the glass tanks, “As beautiful as always Hyung...as beautiful as always..."

Leeteuk smiled, “Ryeowook...I want you to know something."

Ryeowook looked at Leeteuk, “Yes Hyung?"

Leeteuk smiled sadly, “I am sorry about how Appa and Umma treated you. I should've stopped them or something. Maybe I could've...we could've ran away so you wouldn't have to be living in my shadow."

Ryeowook widened his eyes, “It isn't your fault Hyung! Appa and Umma wouldn't have accepted it. They probably would've hit you for saying such things."

Leeteuk shrugged, “Perhaps they would've...but that doesn't mean that how they treated you...was right. They were wrong and they died not knowing that."

Ryeowook looked down, “Maybe they regret it? Have you ever thought of that?"

Leeteuk frowned, “Maybe they did regret it? We would never know. I would never know. You would never know. They would only know."

Ryeowook tilted his head, “Hyung...you still haven't told me...what the meaning of these necklaces are and why you brought me here?"

“The red one means...Bravery and the blue one means...Beauty," Leeteuk explained with watery eyes.

“What does that mean Hyung? Appa was brave and Umma was beautiful?" Ryeowook still couldn't understand.

Leeteuk spoke as he wiped his tears, “That's just it...they didn't hold any of that. Appa wasn't brave. Umma wasn't beautiful."

“What do you mean Hyung? Umma was very beautiful and all women envied her looks while Appa defeated three Ziroian Lions all by himself! Men were talking about that for years and still remember it! How can they not be brave and beautiful?"

Leeteuk seems angry, but not at Ryeowook, at his parents, “Appa couldn't face his own son and Umma was evil as a witch. Appa didn't teach you anything and thought you were a mistake and Umma found you hopeless and hideous, but you're not Wookie. You are brave and beautiful. I hope you know that."

Ryeowook smiled brightly as he realized what his brother was telling him. Ryeowook was called weak by his Appa and ugly by his Umma. They didn't love him. They didn't respect him. Leeteuk loved him and respected him. His brother was the reason why he was still alive. His brother thought that he could defeat anyone as long as he set his mind on it and he thought he was beautiful by the kind and sweet heart he had.

“Wookie, I want you to have the necklaces," Leeteuk spoke gently.

Ryeowook gasped, “Why?"

“I want you to think of what you are and what Appa and Umma weren't. I want you to remember everything I've told you, right now, okay?" Leeteuk asked.

Ryeowook nodded and kept those words repeating in his mind; knowing someone loved and respected him.
