The Cave Boy

Description

Young paleontologist Ren is leading an excavation on Hallasan Mountain, provided by renowned archeologist and rival Aron Kwak. There, Ren accidentally makes a remarkable discovery. Deep in the icy crevice lay a caveman literally frozen in time. As they fight for "Baekho", the Neanderthal is just there— waiting to wake up. That's right. He's alive.

Foreword

"Omma! Appa! Look, I found something!" a bright little girl, ran towards a charming young father alongside a beautiful young mother.

"What is it?" the father asked, carefully stepping over the icy rugged terrain. As he looks up to his little girl, an image of a certain man flash in his head. She was wearing an all-too-familiar animal coat.

"H-How did you find that?" he question out of shock and curiosity. He's amazed that it's in perfect condition.

"There was a shed back there and I found this pretty coat! It looks like something a—"

"—caveman would wear?" he finishes off the sentence with a smile before kneeling down in front of his daughter.

"Yup!"

"Trivia! Do you know what animal is that coat made of?"

"Hm... let's see..." the little girl examined the ancient fur like a top-notched scientist, "it's a white saber-tooth tiger!"

"Wow, you're good!" he complimented. Even with such a detailed answer, he seems not surprised with the girl's extraordinary identification skills.

"Just like her daddy," the woman from behind commented, not surprised by the girl's intelligence either.

"Yeah, so good that it kinda scared me a little," he chuckled as he picked up the girl into his arms before passing her to her mother, "how about you ladies take a rest at the lodge while I take a hike?"

"Where are you going?" the mother asks.

"A hike up memory lane," he replied with the corners of his mouth pulling up.

"Oh! Oh! Is this the place where you meet the caveman?" his lovely daughter interrogated him.

"That's right," he answered and laughed at the fact that she still remembered his tales.

"You're still on with that caveman story?" his significant other pouted at him.

"Yes I am," he gave one last smile before walking off towards the trail, "I'll be back before sunset!"

Hiking up the trail was a lot harder than he thought. It was certainly much easier back in the days. He wasn't exactly prepared to make this hike. Something is just calling out to him. Fortunately, he knew all the short cuts to get to his destination. The reminiscence was vague, but he still knew how to get there.

After a couple hours of slipping and sliding over ice and rock, he finally laid his eyes on a wooden makeshift house, and next to it a matching shed. However, after one step, his foot sank right into a fault, but the man wasn't going to be fooled twice. He immediately caught the edge of the crevice, looking down at the endless void. Most people would be scared out of their minds in a situation like this, but instead the man just smiled and chuckled at the predicament. To him it was just a mere sweet remembrance. This is where it all began.

Wasting no time, he pulled himself back to the terrestrial world and strolled over the dwelling like nothing happened. The closer he got to the building, the clearer his flashbacks are becoming and the more nostalgia he was feeling. Each step he took on the porch created a loud creaking sound. He knew this place was only for temporary, but it stayed up to this point. He knew the reason why. He grasped on the surprisingly shiny door knob before giving it a turn. It was unlocked.

He stepped into the chilly living room, being able to see his own breath. What amazed him was that everything was so clean, so organized. Definitely not how he remembered it the last time he left the place. Knowing the home from the back of his hand, he walked up to the stairs and stopped in front of a certain door. He can hear his own heartbeat in the silence, anxious to see what's behind the wooden frame. Slowly, pushed open the barrier only to see an empty bedroom. Disappointment washed over him. He didn't know what to expect, but then again, he didn't know why he was here in the first place. Before he closed the door, he noticed an opened notebook. It was all-too-familiar. He returned to the room, closing the door behind him and made his way towards a desk. It was full of fossil samples and dinosaur sketches. This was the height of his career. He looked down at the opened page of the yellowing journal, reading one of the first entries:

Dear Diary Hallasan Excavation Journal Day 8:

You. Cannot. Believe. What. Just. Happened. So I kinda almost died falling in a crevice today, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that I had found the discovery of the century! It's no dinosaur, but it's close. I had found a living caveman! Okay it's not really living, but let me explain. The reason why Baekho is so special is because he's literally frozen in time. I named him "Baekho" because of that white saber-tooth tiger wardrobe he was wearing. Get it? "Baekho"? "White Tiger"? Anyways...  he's not a decayed skeleton nor a preserved mummy. He's just there. Stuck in the ice like a popsicle. I'm not gonna lie, he's actually quite handsome and toned... and I digress. However, there's one tiny itty-bitty problem with this whole ordeal— Aron Kwak. What if he's the one funding the dig? So?! I'm the one doing all of the dirty work screaming at people on the freezing mountain while he sits behind his comfy little desk in his comfy little toasty tent! What if he's a world famous archeologist who graduated from Stanford? Who cares?! And his only excuse was that, and I quote, "You study dinosaurs. I study people. The last time I check, that is a person." Okay he may have a point right there, but still! I know some archeology too! The nerve of that guy... and you know what's crazy? He wants to bring the Neanderthal back to life. You hear me? BACK. TO. FREAKING. LIFE. And he calls me the weirdo? Kwak needs to be sent to a mental institution! No one— and I mean NO ONE— can live more than 40,000 years! For all we know, Baekho could've died from hypothermia. At the very least. Crap, the crew's already packing up. I'm done with the ranting for now. I'll write back as soon as I witness Kwak's RIDICULOUS "project".

He chuckled at the familiar writing as he walked down memory lane.

Here's some fancy-schmancy words about prehistoric studies so you won't get confused~

Paleontologists (Ren) studies life in general, from bacteria to whales. These are the people who studies fossils, especially prehistoric animals and/or dinosaurs. They don't really study humans, but that's where archeologists (Aron) come in. They study human history and prehistory through living sites, artifacts, remains, etc. Neanderthals (Baekho) are the closest species to humans before going extinct.

So whenever there's a high vocab word pertaining to this field, I'll make a reference note on the chapter~ you'll now what I mean soon enough. And no, I ain't no paleontologist/archeologist/anthropologist so don't take my word for any of this (then again this is a crackfic-sorta so why would you?)

I have no idea what possessed me to write a caveman fanfic .-. but here I go. This is my second fanfic, and my FIRST ORIGINAL ONE YAY

Okay maybe not original ;__; I might have taken aspects from the k-movie "A Werewolf Boy" and put it in here...  I'M SORRY DON'T HURT ME. (/.\)

aight no more A/N's, on with the story~
