3 Phoenixes

*The plot is pure fiction.*

** Okinawa, Japan: 14 years ago**

Two shadows can be seen running through the bamboo forest. It’s a dark, gloomy yet quiet night.  Even the noises from the two mysterious figures could not ruin the peacefulness of the night. Both of them seem to have learned how to master the art of silence. Finally, the two figures stop at a forest clearing under the moonlight.

“James! I won’t let you utilize the skills and powers we learned from Master Shu for evil. Return the ‘Fall of the Phoenix’ “ a voice filled with anger yells out. 

“ ‘The Fall of the Phoenix’ is not something that should be kept hidden.  Imagine what we can do with its power…and what power it can give us” James replied “ Don’t try to deny the fact that you wanted this too Shin!”

Shin kept quiet and glared at James as he listened.

James continued after hearing no response from Shin.

“ Don’t try to act noble and righteous.  You know perfectly well that we can do the ‘ Fall of the Phoenix’.”  At this point, James slowly made his way toward Shin as he continued talking.

“ Think about the wealth, immense authority, and pow-” James could not finish because he had to dodge a swift sword attack from Shin.

“You got my answer James” Shin stated quietly with his head still facing the ground.

“Now stop what you are doing and repent. Its not too late. If not, I will have to stop you by force.” Shin stated as he slowly stood up to face James.

At a moment of silence, Shin and James just stared at each other.  Each standing firm in his actions and decisions. 

“Too late Shin…I can’t go back.” James finally uttered.

Before Shin knew it, he was being attacked by James.  Shin was taken by surprise at first, but he was able to doge James’ attacks and finally, pin James to the ground with his sword. 

“Kill me Shin. Kill me.” James said, while staring at Shin.

Shin looked at James with sadness and pity.  How can he kill James? How can he? Why did James have to surrender to the dark?

James took advantage of this opportunity and stabbed Shin. Shin immediately succumbed to the pain in his abdomen.

“You violated a very critical rule Shin. Should I remind you what it is?” James asked Shin as he violently kicked Shin.

“ Rule # 2 of an assassin: Never lose focus on your target.” James sinisterly stated as he grabbed Shin by the neck and looked at him.

“ Fortunately Shin…I won’t kill you. I will let you die painfully and slowly here. Tell Master Shu I said hello when you see him in hell. Good bye…little brother.” James threw Shin back to the ground and left. 

As Shin layed down on the ground, he used all the strength he had left to reach his sword. Slowly, he closed his eyes but not until he uttered one last sentence:

“No, James. I violated rule #1: Don’t surrender to emotions.”
