After the success of Red Velvet, SM Ent. decided to debut another girl group but this time with a new concept. The girls will split into two groups to promote their own songs after their debut. They'll split into Black Pearls, which consists of 4 members and Black Diamonds which consists of 5 members. Together, they form Black Butterflies.
