As long as it's the person that Chen love, the person will die eventually. It's just like some curse being cast upon Chen and all the people that he loves. He himself also couldn't understand why these unfortunate things kept on happening to his loved ones. His mother passed away after gaving birth to him, his father died in a fire from saving him when he was 8. His second girlfriend - Kim Namjoo deceased around 1 year ago due to illness. This stopped him from falling in love anymore because he didn't want to bring misfortune or harm to anyone that he love. So he delibrately kept his distance away from most people, especially girls but he still got a small group of friends in school.
