Maybe in a different time, a different place, I would be someone who deserved you.

Maybe if I had not committed the sins I so woefully regret now, I would still be able to stand by your side and hold your hand, willingly.

However, we all knew this would never become a reality, because you were everything that I was not.

You were the embodiment of all the good in the world: the sun, the air, the stars in the sky.

Whereas I was the cold, desolate night that made you shine so brightly.

I was the chill that ran down people's spines whenever they walked alone.

And however strange this may sound to some, the last thing I wanted was to taint you with my darkness.

So here I am, bidding my farewell.

But I want you to know something:

I love you.

And I never meant to hurt you, but we all know I'm a liar.
