Chapter 4: When She Steps In...

Yunni's P.O.V.

Noori had burn marks and bruises all over his body. I stares at him pitifully. During recess, Yasmin and Eunmi noticed that i was in a daze.

Yasmin spoke up, “Yunni? You don’t look okay…”

I remained silent. Maddi walked pass and saw her. She asked, “What’s wrong? If there’s wrong, do speak up.” “We’re here to help you…” Eunmi continued to what Maddi said.

I finally spoke, “I don’t want to see Noori like this anymore! His life is useless if his father continues to treat him like this…” Tear rolled down my eyes after I finished my statement.

Coincidentally, Noori walked by and heard my statement and he felt terrible. He thought: Gosh… A girl that is unrelated to me is worrying for my family issues…

That day, Noori approached me. “Hi Yunni, I know that you are worried cos of my father… but…” he stuttered. “you don’t have to… because I’ll be fine. This is my life and I have to face it, so you don’t have to worry…” “NO!” I was at the verge of tears and I shouted. “ Let me follow you home today, I don’t want your father to hurt you anymore… I don’t want…” “But I don’t want you to be hurt as well…” Noori interrupted. “You cannot just worry for my safety but you also have to be concerned for yours as well…”

I went silent for a while, but i thought of something that will make him change his mind. “Noori, you have forgotten about something….” I said seriously. Noori was puzzled; he didn’t know what he had forgotten. “You forgotten that we had a science research project that we have to do?” I reminded. “Oh… Haish… Thanks for the reminder…” Noori changed his serious and worried face into a relaxed face. “Ok fine, you can come over to my house to do the project…” Noori agreed.

In the afternoon, at the doorsteps of Noori’s house, Noori opened the door to his house. Suddenly, he was being dragged into the house by his father. “Hey! Stop it, Dad!!!!” Noori struggled. Noori didn’t expect his father to return home that quickly because he usually comes home around late night. The door was shut closed, I tried to barge in but I couldn’t, it was locked shut. “Noori!!!!! No!!!!” I cried. I have to call for help, I fished out my phone from my pocket and dialed Callisto’s number.

Callisto's P.O.V.

Beep… Beep… Beep… “Hello?” I answered the phone. That was when Yunni was crying to me on the phone. She was begging me to help her get into Noori’s house.  I quickly called Sungmin and we headed down to Noori’s house.
