Finite Immortality

For centuries, many have coveted the fountain of youth. Many people wanted to live forever but there was no real potion or solution to do so.
Until one day, the magic of a unicorn appeared. It is said that unicorn’s blood can grant the immortality. But for a fleeting moment, the drinker will need unicorn’s blood monthly in order to remain youthful and healthy.
This made people everywhere crazy, soon unicorns were almost extinct and had to go into hiding in the forest. The forest where no one ventured, for they were afraid of the trees that whispered, animals that spoke and the magic that flourished in there. The unicorns needed a guardian and soon he was born.
But of course, the guardian needed help from the people, the people of the Kingdom that were trying to slay the unicorns. He needed a decree from the royal family to ensure that the unicorns would be safe. He knew that without the royal family, he would have nothing.
And soon he found a companion, someone that loved unicorns as much as he did. But she was taken away from him one day. It was that same day he discovered the family had their words.
Something had changed and the unicorns were now in danger once more. From the very people that swore to protect them. He needed a way to get his companion back, a way that would ensure the safety and love of the forest again.
He needed the truth of her world to come out, even if she wasn’t ready for it.
Foreword
“You promise to keep your word?” He asked her. “You have to promise."
“Of course I promise. I can ask my father to protect them, it won’t do any harm.” Saehyun replied back to him. “He likes to make sure I’m happy."
He let out a sigh of relief, “Good. Then we can make sure that they live forever. And nothing happens to them."
She slipped her hand into his, “We can watch over them together.” She said, smiling.

"I decree that all unicorns in the forest are to be protected, if any citizen is caught injuring, maiming or provoking a unicorn in any way, they will be severely punished." The Crown Messenger cried out as he read the parchment before him.
Saehyun smiled to her father as he beamed back at her, she had gotten her way. The unicorns, the creatures that were the love of her life were being protected. She turned to the crowd and saw her friend at the back with a huge smile on his face.
She waved at him as the people below cheered, they all loved her, Princess Saehyun and what she loved, they loved. And that meant loving the unicorns, despite their carnal desires.
She turned to her father and he gave her a wink, this was just the beginning. She could feel the sun on her face and she had so much time to go exploring.
“We will protect them forever, right, Father?” She asked him, as she continued to wave at the crowd beneath them.
“For as long as you live, my sweet.” He replied, but he kissed his wife’s hand and looked at her.

“Father, can I go outside at play?” She asked him, she was old enough to take care of herself by now, she was an adult for heaven’s sake.
“No, sweetheart. I worry you will lose your way and get lost.” He answered her.
“But father, I’m fine on my own, if you don’t trust me then can I take a guard with me?” Saehyun begged, “Please, I just want to feel the sun on my face again."
Her father sighed, “Fine. Go, don’t get lost. And come back before the sun sets.” She let out a squeal of glee before running outside.
Now was his chance to pull her back once more.
