Description

AU: 19th century research doctor Jongin is Europe's greatest hope in defeating a plague that is ravaging the population, but when his former teacher and current advisor Junmyeon becomes sick, young but extremely jaded Jongin is forced to take on an apprentice in the form of his self-proclaimed number one fan, a "clumsy, happy-go-lucky oaf" named Chanyeol.

About the Fic:

Warnings include:The fact that this story desperately needs updates to the writing style and I plan on working on those soon; Cursing; tons of medical references including somewhat not nice ones like amputation and death; character death; butchering of the timeline of medical developments of the 1800s.

All of OT12 is mentioned, but Kai, Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, Chen, Xiumin, Kris, and D.O. are the only ones who appear.

This fic is based off of, first of all, the fact that I was introduced to EXO via EXO-M's version of Overdose, and my first impression of Kai with his vest-wearing blonde self was that he looked like a y-as-f 18th or 19th century doctor. Why I went with doctor and not poet or composer or something, I don't know, but I'm guessing it had to do with the lyrics. But I digress. Second is the whole ChanKai #1 fan thing. This universe's Chanyeol is also a great fan of Dr. Jongin's work as well as Dr. Jongin himself.

I hope to bring in quite a bit of angst from the fact that they're living in a society in the midst of a pandemic, some humor from our lovely Beagle line, and some Chankai romance to bring back some happiness. Lawd knows Dr. Grump Jongin needs it. Overall, I'd say I'm aiming for about 55% neutral drama, 35% angst, 10% romance/fluff, and 5% humor.

Finally, thank you very much cutie, for those little words at the end of the chapter ... I didn't expect to read my nickname, so suddenly lol and I was... pleasantly surprised *blush* (^~...^')
I was just, honestly delighted to comment on your story as soon as I found it by chance, during one of those nights of boredom and insomnia. >_<
And also because, usually, i read only Chansoo (at 99%) :P due to the differences of the two protagonists and personalities that often clash in fanfics. [ I find that there are many possibilities, interesting enough, with this pairing (especially also, because everywhere Chanyeol is, humor is present :) so I'm automatically present hehe) ].
But I'm very glad I tried to find, that night, a Chankai to read. Especially because I came across one of the best I read so far.~
So, please, keep this originality in the future, if you intend to write more fanfics (in the choice of the theme, the time frame, the angst genre: which is, in my opinion, not appreciated at its true value! ^^), because it's your greatest quality!

Chapter 14: :) Don't worry, this last chapter may be short but it transmits a lot of information. The most important, is probably the knowledge that Baekhyun's death, has allowed to achieve a great discovery that will save many lives in the future. So, with this information, the reader is already less sad about the death of the character and rather takes it as a blessing in disguise (which often happens in life, for that matter). Speaking of that, i think the flow of realistic clues here (we feel like death is never far away here and is often cited as a reminder that life hangs by a thread, or the moral life that can be learned from the past of Jongin) is for me the best thing in your fiction.

Mmh btw, it's strange to think that this is the end of the story ... because we have followed the work of these researchers with interest throughout the story. Their sorrows, their obstacles, their joys ... like a real movie!~

One of the things I loved here also: chastity in the relationship between Chanyeol and Jongin. Or rather the fact that until the end, there was no gestures, dripping with love or too easy/free emotional gestures. As you say, after terrible times, it would have been strange.

Do you have ideas of what you could offer to us in those bonus, or not yet? ^^
To delight the artichoke hearts who want more affection, you might consider a good jump in time (what would be their relationship a few years after this scientific discovery). In that way, it will not be awkward to see a happy blooming love~~

Ah Chanyeol also experienced big tragedies in his life... :/
But it is good to "relativize", so to speak, when we see the personal history, the past of the people around us, which is sometimes even more dramatic than ours ... And Chanyeol has understood it well, through Jongin.
It's a good moral, to adopt in our lives.
There will always be worse, regardless of the vagaries of life and the obstacles that we may encounter. You have to stay strong and go beyond its painful moments, to keep the good memories and find the strength to stand up stronger.

I love how each depends on the other, in your history. More than the typical feelings of love (attraction towards each other), it is as if there was also the love that we feel for someone with whom you share blood ties, as well as respect for the elder and his experience life.

Jongin smiled !!! lol so we had to wait until the end of the story, to see him smile.. Huh thanks author-nim lol

To you guys who've made it through Chapter 13: Congrats, you've made it through 99% of the angst!

I really want to start writing the final chapter now, but I'm all written out for today. Lol, but the words for Chapter 13 started flowing to me at 4 a.m. this morning, when I woke up at 2 and couldn't get back to sleep. I was just laying there typing away on my phone all, "NOOOO, stop being creative; I want to go to beeeeed!!! ;_;"

Chapter 12: I feared the worst for Baekhyun : /) and yeah...
but he's death is strangely quick and sudden, I'm more terrified than sad, when I read the scene. We feel as anxious and helpless that when we watch a documentary on the life emergency at the hospital. -_- poor Baekhyun who had so many questions and had found love..

The end of the chapter is so sweet, these chaste and respectful kisses, eyes full of admiration and self-sacrifice awww : ') Dr Jongin is a super cutie in this chap. He is as pure as a child, in the way of loving and consider the people he loves as his own family, despite everything that may occur!

I'm glad for this strides in his relationship with Chanyeol (considering their debut), but i will miss angst moments terribly, I admit lol

Chapter 12: Omg noooo baekhyun!!! How could this happened? ╯︿╰ I feel so bad about him. Even though chankai got together i cannot be happy at all because of this chapter!

Thought I would do a big comment in response to prettynina: There is a 70-80% chance of fluff for next chapter, but it will also be the saddest chapter, and the fluff won't do much to help that :( After that, we are headed out of angst land and onto the fluff!
