Chapter 13

 Home (Part 1/2)

It was a bright and sunny day. The sun beams came through the windows and lit the room up. You yawned and stretched your body. You slowly slid out of your bed and pulled the curtains away. The sky was clear and bright. You sighed as you ran your hand through your long locks and looked out.

It was early and you couldn’t hear any sounds coming from below or the little one’s room. Maybe the kid was still asleep and Yongguk probably went for work. Since the weather was so nice you wanted to do something, be productive.

Hence you thought about what to do for the day. You walked into the nursery room and found the little boy sleeping peacefully. Ki Joon was in his bed and you could hear him breathe out. He tugged onto his Tigger stuffed animal and slept like a baby. You smiled as you watched him for a moment. Looking at him brought you peace somehow.

Then you walked towards Yongguk’s room. You didn’t really dare to open the door, because what if he was home and awake. You didn’t want to get caught snooping by him.

You just wanted to know whether he was home or not. Hence you leaned against his door and tried to hear any sound and there was none. You pursed your lips, pulled back and figured that he took off for work. He must have left really early.

You walked into Ki Joon’s playroom and cleaned up the room. There were toys everywhere and you looked at the empty walls. There were no paintings on the walls, no colors and you pouted.

This room didn’t look like a real play room for kids. The walls were white and it looked very dull for a play room. It almost looked like an office or hospital room and you laughed to yourself. Yongguk really didn’t know how to decorate.

Suddenly you wanted to do something for this room, make it bright and childlike. You sat on the floor with a basket full of cars. Then an idea came to your mind. Ki Joon loves cars and Tigger. He needs a room with cars painted on the walls and Tigger. It would make him so happy and you knew that he spends a lot of time in the play room instead of his own room. This room was also bigger.

You were excited to get started with the painting. You quickly started by removing the toys and covering the furniture with plastic material. But you needed the most important thing and that’s paint and some paint brushes.

You had to buy the important things first, but you can’t leave the house without the little boy. Hence you decided to buy the things later, once the little one wakes up the two of you would go out.

Once Ki Joon woke up, he had breakfast and the both of you went out to buy some paint. You took the other car and drove off with the little boy in the backseat. You had told him about the idea and he liked it. He wanted to help with the painting of the room. Ki Joon was already excited and you watched him through the rear view and giggled.

He is so cute

You were looking at the different pain and wondered about which colors you would be needing. You explained to Ki Joon that you would be painting cars on the wall and he got overly excited and chimed out, “Can I paint the cars?”

Ki Joon asked in the store as he was looking at the colors. You nodded and ruffled his hair. He laughed brightly and picked out the colors. You found the right colors and looked for the painting brush.

“Will Yongguk also paint?” Ki Joon asked all of a sudden as you walked down the store and you abruptly froze for a second and looked down at him.

You were taken back at his sudden question. It was a good sign that he was asking about Yongguk. He must like him a lot, since he showed interest in Yongguk. But you knew that Yongguk couldn’t come due to work. You felt bad about telling that to the little boy. Ki Joon looked up at you with bright eyes.

“Ki Joon-ah, Yongguk is working, so he can’t make it.” You said with a pout as you looked at the little boy.

Ki Joon looked up at you with a cute pout and you sighed. He looked down now. You ruffled his soft small curls and looked into his round eyes. You didn’t like seeing him get upset.

“I want Yongguk to paint.” He said as he looked down on the floor whilst pouting.

It was your first time seeing Ki Joon fret like that. You couldn’t help but think that this was a good sign. Ki Joon was opening up more. He is normally shy and very quiet. Although, you didn’t like it deep down that he is upset. It was a good sign from him. It meant that he likes Yongguk. You bent down and looked into his eyes.

“We can ask him to help us. He can paint with us some other day.” You said with a smile.

The little boy looked up and smiled all happily again and you laughed. You knew you probably wouldn’t be able to finish the painting today. It required hard work and a lot of time.

“Aigoo.” You cooed, when you saw how he got happy now and he giggled back.

You bought the colors and brushes that you needed and left the store with Ki Joon.

You had drawn the sketch on the wall and looked at it. It wasn’t as easy as you had thought. The little boy was waiting for you to start painting. He was eager to start. Ki Joon held a small paint brush in his hand and he wanted to color the cars that you had drawn on the wall.

You had told him that he could paint some parts, once you were done. You had sketched a car with Tigger inside and the Tigger was driving the car with a smile on its face. The colors were mixed and you were now ready to paint.

You had changed your clothes to some you didn’t use, so if you got paint on yourself it wouldn’t matter and you had also changed Ki Joon’s clothes. You were wearing shorts and a top and you had your hair up in a bun.

You started to paint Tigger and the little boy watched amused. He jumped up all excited when he could see how Tigger became more visible as you painted it.

“You are good.” He said once he could see Tigger and you smiled.

“You are good at speaking.” You said and gave his cheek a light squeeze.

Ki Joon giggled shyly and hid his face, because he was feeling shy. The little boy was still new in this place and environment. He was soon turning 5 as well. You understood how it must be overwhelming for him to suddenly live with two strangers.

You stopped with the drawings, once you were completely done and handed Ki Joon a paint brush after you dipped it with the red color.

“You can dip the brush in the bucket and paint here. Remember that you have to stay inside the lines.” You explained the little boy while pointing at the car and he nodded happily.

He jumped excited and immediately went to work and you giggled. He seemed to have fun. You watched him run the brush on the painting and he squealed amused, once the paint got on the wall.

“This is fun!” He kept saying and you laughed.

“Is it fun?” You asked.

“Yes!” He exclaimed and you laughed again.

The both of you continued drawing. You had to give yourself props for this, because Ki Joon was opening up even more now and he thought it was fun. You weren’t that scared of him accidentally running the sketch, as you care more about him having a good time out of it. However, you did help him every now and then.

“I can paint!” He jumped happily and you laughed.

“You are doing well Ki Joon-ie.” You said and he giggled.

“I’m doing well.” He repeated in a cute way and you ruffled his hair and squealed at his cuteness.

The evening went by fast with the painting and Ki Joon got tired from the work, so you tuck him to bed early. He was hugging Tigger into him, whilst sleeping. You watched him in awe. This kid meant the world to you. You planted a soft kiss on his forehead and decided to continue with the painting.

You made a cup of coffee and walked into the play room. You washed the brushes and mixed the colors and started the painting.

You only painted one part of the wall, it had a sun, skies, the red car and Tigger. You placed the ladder in front and got up on it, so you could paint the sun. You were drawing the sunbeams and your hand got tired.

You sighed and rubbed your sweaty forehead. Your top was clung onto your body and the back of your hair got curly from the sweat. It was a lot harder than you had imagined it to be.

You wanted to take a break, but at the same time you wanted to finish the painting. Or as much as you could.

Yongguk pulled the car in the garage and shut down the engine. He looked at himself in the rear view and sighed. It had been a long work day with producing songs for artists and all he needed right now was a warm cup of noodles and a good sleep.

He walked into the house and stopped once he saw that the lights in the house were turned off. The only light came from the living room. He frowned but walked into the house. Once he walked in, he couldn’t hear anything, it was silent and he raised a brow as he looked around the living room.

“Ki Joon- ah?” He called out the little boys’ name.

No one responded, he then walked towards the stairs and saw light coming from Ki Joon’s play room.

It was past 10pm. Ki Joon sleeps at this hour and he wondered why the light was on in his playroom.

Yongguk finally opened the door to the room and stopped surprised. He found you standing on a ladder with a paint brush in your hand. Your back was facing him, you were wearing a top and shorts. He frowned as he looked up and down at you.

You sighed, rubbed the sweat from your forehead away and continued painting.

“Oh my god.. This is so tiring” You said to yourself.

Yongguk tilted his head as he watched you and his gaze turned towards the painting. He couldn’t help but smile, when he saw the picture of Tigger in a red car on the wall. Tigger had a proud smile on his face whilst driving the car. It was a red race car and you had also painted the road.

Yongguk was quite amazed to find out that you could paint. He too really liked to paint and draw sometimes. It was one of his side hobbies.

So this was what you had been doing all day, he thought and chuckled.
