His parents words were rushing through his head as he was lying on a pink sofa in his friend's room. His head resting on the girl's laps, his eyes closed, lips parted, and his chest rising and falling systematically. He felt a soft hand brushing though his hair and he felt at peace. Almost. There was music playing quietly in the background, cold wind coming through a window, making him shiver. A fluffly fabric of his favourite red blanket moved on him. The boy smiled at his friend, knowing it was her who covered him with it.
-I wish we could stay like this forever.- He sighed.
-We can. Our forever can last exactly thirty minutes.- The girl mocked.
-You think you're funny, but you're not, Chung.- Minseok lifted one of his eyelids up to look at his friend.
-Still funnier than you, Grumpy-seok.- She laughted lightly, lowering her face.
-Why are we even friends?- The boy murmered.
-Because deep down somewhere in the place where heart should be, you know you love me.- Chung half sang half spield off, while squishing Minseok's cheeks.
-Stop it, you evil girl!- He shouted, covering his face with arms, but quickly a laugh followed.
After a few moments they were both lying on the ground, breathing heavily.
-It's cold, can we close the window please?- Minseok asked while trying to catch the blanket, but his arms were too short.
-Sure.- His friend got up and closed it. She then turned around and looked at the boy crawling on the floor. He reached the sofa and wrapped himself in the blanket. The petit boy sitting on her sofa didn't look his age. His face was too soft, his posture too small. And when he smiles, he looks even younger.When. The only odd things in the boy were his eyes and shoulders. His eyes didn't shine as bring as they used to. His shoulders seemed to be slightly hunched lately. As if carrying problems too heavy for this small figure to handle. And they were.
-Stop staring, Chung, you're being creepy.- Minseok chuckled, his eyes closed, head resting on the back of the sofa.
-Minseok?- The girl started, getting closer to the sofa. She then hunkered down, resting her hands on the boy's. He opened his eyes and looked at her. - What is bothering you? - She whispered, looking the boy in the eyes, concern painted on her face.
Minseok sighed and lowered his gaze.
-They were talking about it again today, Chung-Cha.- He murmered.- "I have high expectations, you know that" my father said. Again. And I.. I just... I know I will never meet them... I'll never be what theywantmetobeandI'llnevergivehimwhattheywant...- With each word he was talking faster and faster. At the end the words became one, and tears appeared in his eyes.
But they didn't fall.
-You should tell them, Min.- She rose to her feet just to sit down beside her friend. She wrapped her arms around him, letting his head rest on her arm.
-I can't. They'll hate me.- He sobbed.
-They won't. -She tried to cheer him up.- They're your parents.
-You know them, Chung. You know my father. They want a beautiful bride, a big wedding, a house with a colorful garden and grandchildren. And I can't give it to them...
They were sitting in silence, the music stopped playing, the wind outside stopped howling. The only audioble sound in the room was made by the clock.
-I don't want to hurt them. But I don't want to end up with someone I don't love. I don't want to be unhappy, Chung.- He whispered, as if telling her his biggest secrets.- Why is it me, Chung? Why can't I be normal?- He whimpered.
-Don't say that! You are normal! There is nothing wrong with you, you understand it, Min?! You're the most amazing person I've ever met, don't ever think low of yourself only because of who you love.
-I just want to be good enough... I just want to be good enough for my parents, Chu. I want to make them proud. But I never will...
-You are good enough, Minnie. You're better than that. And if for some reason your parents can't see that, that only means they are the ones having a problem, not you.- She caressed his cheek, smiling a bit.
-Can you help me, Chu? Can you help me one more time?- He looked into her eyes, grabbing her hand tight.
Desperation.
-Of course, Minseok. Of course.- She hugged him tight.- What do you want me to do?
-Help me come up with a great idea, that would give me some more... I just need more time.
-You always say it. Each time you need more time...
-Chung-Cha. I beg you. I'm lost. I don't know what to do anymore. I feel like jumping off a cliff.
-You haven't told your friends as well, have you?- She slightly tilted her head.
He shook his head. - No one but you knows.
Chung-Cha faced Minseok and after a few long minutes passed she finally said.
-We can pretend to be a couple.
-W-WHAT?! Chung-Cha! - Minseok looked terrified.
-Do you have a better idea?
The boy was silent, just gazing at the girl in front of him.
-I can't, Chu. I can't bring you into this. You don't deserve it.- He kept shaking his head.
-I can't stand you being so miserable, Min. I want to help you.- She put his hands into her's.- You are my friend. And if seeing you happy again requires a bit of lying, then I don't care. I just want my friend back.- She smiled and a single tear rolled down her cheeck.
-Chu, don't cry, you silly girl.- Minseok tried to laugh, but failed.
-A little lie never killed nobody.- She shrugged, laughing.- What is the worst thing that can happen anyway?
Minseok finally lit up a bit.
-Let me help you, Grumpy-seok.-She teased.- If we're going down, we're going down together.
-Are you sure you want to do this?
-I am.- She squished his fingers.- Plus, maybe this'll help you get over your crash - at this remark Minseok's face changed colours from pale to red within half a second - and you'll fall in love with me. - Chung laughed.
Minseok gave her a confused look.
-Don't look at me like that! At one point I had this huge crush on you!- She drew a heart in the air.
-You did?!- Minseok asked surprised. Chung-Cha chimed in and the boys lips formed a perfect 'O'.
