Few seconds before the announcement, I remained calmed in my seat. I’m really hoping we could bring home the award this year but I don’t want to hope too much. I don’t want to be disappointed in case we don’t win this time.
“. . . and the winner for Album of the Year Award goes to . . .” I heard the presenter and I held my breath. “Super Junior – Mr. Simple! “
I bit my lip and breathed a long deep one. I can feel the tears already forming in my eyes but I held it all back. As the leader, I need to stay composed.
My members already stood up and exchanged high fives from the Girls Generation members seating in our front. Siwon and Eunhyuk were the first one to climb onto the stage followed by the rest of us.
‘Mnet Asia Music Award, Album of the Year – Super Junior’s Mr. Simple’
I can hear the beautiful sound of our ELFs cheering while Mr. Simple is playing. As we walked towards the center stage the members keep on bowing and waving to the audience. We received the award from the presenter and I shook her hand and bowed. And then I turned to the mic, ready to give our speech.
I looked at the audience which consists of fans from different fandoms. And at the sight of the ELFs waving blue lightsticks, placards, our pictures and anything related to us, I felt a sense of pride and gratitude to them.
“Hi Singapore!!! Are you happy?” I greeted the audience while holding the award up high. Loud cheers answered back. “Kai xin ma?” I asked them again in Chinese.
My members stood beside me and I recollected my thoughts for the speech. I got myself ready before, in case we won but of course I didn’t memorize it. I want the speech to come from our hearts sincerely, especially for this award.
