Foreword

Man. My life , it’s my 3rd day staying here at a public sauna and I’m getting bored. I should have taken more clothes with me when I decided to leave home. And more money as well, I checked my wallet and found out that it’s not enough for 1 month expense. Maybe I should find a job. I’m a pretty fast learner. I guess I can do anything easily. For an 18 years old senior, I guess having a part-time job is not a bad idea. It’s a really great idea.

I went out and started looking for a shop I can work to. I don’t have a particular job in mind. I guess no one does if you just thought about it 30 minutes ago. I was busy looking at the facilities when suddenly I felt a light thug around my leg. I looked down and saw a little girl looking at my feet.

“Ice cream.” I heard her whispered before looking at where she’s looking and noticed that her ice cream fell on my shoes.

“Aish. What are you doing? These shoes are new.” I automatically crouched down and wiped my shoe. I was going to glare at the girl or maybe I already did because she stared at me with horror in her eyes.

Crap.

“Ma…” She whispered, her tears on the verge of falling.

She looked away. I bet she’s going to call her mom. I panicked. I stood up and was about to run away when I noticed the girl searching through the crowd. She started to cry louder.

“Mama!” She shouted a couple of times while looking at all the people around her. I noticed that no one is actually approaching her.

She kept crying and crying until I can’t take it anymore and tried to pick her up.

“Hey, kid. Don’t cry. Did you get lost?” She started to cry louder and it’s getting all the people’s attention.

“Hey, hey. Look here. I’ll buy you some ice cream. Do you want ice cream?” And just like magic she automatically stopped crying and looked at me.

Whoa. That was easy.

After buying a cup of ice cream and settling ourselves at one of the tables she finally eased up and ate her ice cream in peace.

What am I going to do? This is not kidnapping right? I think the kid’s just about 2 years old. What kind of mother would leave her child like that on the street? Oh my god. Don’t tell me this will be like in those movies where I have to take care of this baby and be a young father. Hell, no. That’s not going to happen. There’s no way I’m going to be the father of this child.

“Hey, little girl. What’s your name?” I tried to be as friendly as I can. I don’t want her to cry again.

She looked at me for a moment and then back to her ice cream like I didn’t asked her a question.

Stupid kid.

I gave up too soon. I’ll just take her to the police station after she finished eating her ice cream. I was again thinking about the job I’m going to take after sending the kid to the police station when I spotted a familiar face.

“Isn’t that…” I trailed off.

I forgot her name. I think she’s in my class. She’s acting weird. Oh. She’s crying. God, she looks crazy. Isn’t she embarrassed crying in public like that? She was searching the crowd obviously looking for something and she doesn’t care if she was bumping other people around. She didn’t even apologize for pushing other people around. Wow. She’s rude. As I remember she’s even the top of our class. What’s her name again? The teacher always called on her in every single question.

“Taeyeon…” I said under my breath.

Oh yeah. It’s Kim Taeyeon. Acting all genius in class but a complete lunatic on the street. I shook my head. You can’t really judge a book by its cover.

I was so engaged on staring at Taeyeon and her lunacy when the little girl started crying again. I looked at her and saw that she’s looking at the same direction as I was.

“Mama!” She shouted at the top of her lungs. She stood from her seat and started calling again.

“Mama!” I tried to look at where she’s looking and was shocked to see Taeyeon running towards us. When she reached our table she automatically flung her arms around the girl and hugged her tightly.

“Where have you been? I was looking everywhere for you.” She cried. She kissed the girls face a couple of times before hugging her again.

“Thank god you’re safe. I was so scared.” The little girl was now crying as hard as her.

For a moment I can tell that I’m really out of the picture. This two completely forget about my existence. But seriously, what’s going on? I was just staring at them in disbelief. I’m not really sure what I should say.

“I-Is that kid yours?” I blurted out without much thought. She let go of her hug to the girl and stared at her eyes lovingly.

“Yes.” She said while caressing the little girl’s cheeks. “Thank you so much for… B-Baekhyun?”

She finally looked at me. Her eyes filled with horror like the pair of eyes that looked at me a while ago.
