Description

Taeyeon used to think she was un-reachable in the music industry, she was invincible. That is, until Jessica Jung came along.

Foreword

"Kim Taeyeon has once again topped the music charts with her new mini album, 'Twinkle'."

Taeyeon's ears perked up at the sound of her name, but her interest quickly feigned. It's not something that's new, anyway.

"Hey look, Tae. They're talking about you on the news."

The eye-smiling girl next to her is more excited about it than she is, but then again, Tiffany was always just a more happy person.

"Manager Oppa, could you turn it up please?" Tiffany continues, and the manager complies in a heartbeat.

"This young singer's success never fails to amaze us, having made one full length album and two mini albums in the short span of two years."

The news reporter's loud voice echoes throughout the now silent house, and Taeyeon terribly wishes for something else to fill that silence, but she was never one to speak unless spoken to.

"Tae, want me to tell you how to make Ma?"

"Yes, please." She answered, her tone rushed and desperate, although she has no interest in knowing how to blend up a vegetable and drink it. Anything to help tune out the television.

It's like they're droned to say the same things every time she comes out with new music. It no longer gets her palms sweating and lip bit like it used to, but that doesn't mean she doesn't enjoy the attention.

"Well, my new friend, Yuri, is obsessed with it, so I figured I might as well learn how to make it. You know, for friendship purposes." Tiffany says, and Taeyeon raises a brow at her need to explain that, but she brushes it off. "Okay, so first you-"

But the American girl's voice is drained out when the woman on the TV decides to speak again.

"Only two and a half years in the music business, and Taeyeon-ssi has already earned the title as the nation's little sister. Isn't that admirable?"

"I've always hated that name." Taeyeon grumbles to no one in particular, but Tiffany beside her chuckles.

"I think it's cute."

"You would."

"However, new performer, Jessica Jung, has debuted at the same time that Taeyeon released her album, and she isn't failing to steal some of Taeyeon's audience."

Then it switches to a clip of Jessica singing her debut song "Almost" at music core. And now Taeyeon's attention is fully grabbed.

"Hmm, do you think she's American?" Tiffany mindlessly asks as she chops vegetables for her drink, but Taeyeon doesn't hear her over Jessica's singing.

The clip is short, and it's quickly flipped back to the news reporter and her anchorman, but Taeyeon can't get the last few seconds out of her head.

The scene where a blonde Jessica walks down the stage, eyelashes fluttering nervously, but there's a smile on her face nonetheless. Her voice wavers at times but she doesn't fail to deliver notes beautifully, melodically.

"Stealing my audience?" Taeyeon questions, scoffing at the thought of it.

"Don't let it get to you, Tae." Tiffany chimes, dropping the chopped veggies into the blender.

"This performance seems familiar doesn't it, Hyunssik?" The woman turns to the anchor.

"Yes, it does. Reminds you of Taeyeon-ssi's debut stage, huh?"

"Why are they comparing us?" Taeyeon spats.

"They've done that before, don't let it bother you now." Tiffany says, matter of factly.

Taeyeon huffs, but continues watching, not finding it in herself to look away.

"We have an exclusive interview with Jessica-ssi after her music core performance."

Just then, the blender goes off, loud, shrilling noise filling the air, and the TV goes mute as Jessica appears on screen.

"Turn that thing off!" Taeyeon urges, and Tiffany jumps at the harsh tone, but goes to shut the power off.

She missed some of the dialogue, but she decides it doesn't matter because what Jessica's saying now is much more important.

"And about your debut timing, rumors are stating that your company did this to spike competition between you and Kim Taeyeon. What do you have to say about this?"

"It was completely coincidental."

Taeyeon chokes out a humorless laugh. "Coincidental my . They're probably using me to make her more famous."

Beside her, Tiffany shrugs as she follows along with the program. "I like her."

Taeyeon shoots her a sideway glare before turning back to the screen.

"Your song has been gaining a lot of popularity for a debut piece. Already in the top 100, how do you feel?"

"Because she's leeching off my fame!"

"It's an honor, really. I'll continue to work hard, and I hope fans will continue to support me."

"You're really getting worked up, aren't you?" An amused smile forms on Tiffany's face.

"One last question. It's about your sunbae, Kim Taeyeon-ssi. Fans have been pointing out your similarities, for example; your vocal range, age and even your appearance. Do you have anything to say about Taeyeon-ssi?"

Taeyeon is all ears now, on the edge of her seat. Let's see what she has to say about me.

But instead of answering that question and giving her thoughts and opinions on the successful idol, Jessica gives a final smile to the camera that has Taeyeon's skin crawling.

"I'd like to meet her."

Chapter 2: That last scene was quite the irony. I like it. :3 I'm guessing that Taeyeon's going to do a double take when she gets to know about Jessica. haha! I'm curious about Mr. Jung's status. He seems quite a respectable authority and if he is, then, I'm guessing that Jessica isn't just your typical rising idol rookie that Taeyeon had used to perceive. Either way, Taeyeon's already having her previous impressions refuted with that fateful meeting with Jessica on a personal level. :) Thanks for the update!
