I fell in love with my best friend and this is our story…

         November 2011

I was facing an old looking computer and waiting for our professor to arrive. I didn’t know why our university let us use old computers. Our miscellaneous fee was so expensive! What happened to our student council?

I stood up, looked around and sighed.  I saw some familiar and new faces. Some were talking and some were just there… sitting, looking so innocent. No cute guy, I thought.

“Where’s Bora? She’s coming late again…” I mumbled to myself.

When I was about to sit, a cool looking guy entered the room. Cute guy radar: activated! He looked so young and confident. He was smiling and he even looked at me! Oh my! Where was he going? Was he going to sit beside me?

Stop it! You have a boyfriend. Yes! I had a boyfriend. We’re dating for a year now and his name was Henry. He was from US while I was from South Korea. It’s a long distance relationship. I didn’t even know how we survived but I was glad we did.

Henry was studying medicine at US. It’s his final year so he’s really busy. We were only talking online. He promised that after getting his license, he would visit me here. I already met his family and they’re really nice to me. I was very close to his mother. Henry and I planned to get married after 10 years. Aren’t you too young to be planning that?

Anyway, going back to this cool guy I was talking about… he sat beside me. It’s okay to be attracted to someone, right? It’s not like I was cheating on Henry.

“Hi.” He was talking to me. The guy, beside me, talked to me. I glanced at him. “Hello.”

“My name is Jung Yunho.” His name was Yunho. That’s a cool name.

         “Like you know?”

         “Yeah sounds like you know.”

         “You know”

“It’s not really you know. It’s Yun-ho.” Oh crap! This was confusing.

“I’m Tiffany Hwang. It’s nice to meet you, Yun—ho.”

“You’re cute.” He smiled again while opening the computer.

I stared at him for awhile. He was busy checking out the software we’re going to use. He was handsome, REALLY HANDSOME. I liked his eyes; it was so… so Asian. I had to admit that I was physically attracted to this guy but my affection for Henry was stronger so I decided to ignore the fluttering butterflies in my stomach.

He talked to me again. He shared that this was the second time he’s taking the subject. Oh my gosh really? What were you? A troublesome guy who liked to bully nerd people and hang out in a bar during class hours? He was not attending his class. How did you know? He just told you. Are you even listening? Stop drooling at him!

He also shared that he had a son and a wife. Bam! Someone’s heart got broken. Ambulance! Call an ambulance!  I really didn’t know why he was sharing personal information like that to me, a total stranger. We’d just met! Maybe, he was just warning you so that you would not fall for his charm. I really hated it when my subconscious was right. I’m always right.

I secretly looked at him again. He looked so young to be married. But guess what? He’s 5 years older than me and I was just 18. He also told me that they were not living together anymore but still married. So, that meant he was not divorced yet. Why? Of course, I didn’t ask why. It’s none of my business.

My little chit chat with my subconscious got interrupted when our professor arrived. We had seating arrangement according to our last names. Yunho transferred to another computer but that didn’t stop him from talking to me. He even added me on Facebook. I wondered why.

After class, when I was closing the door behind me, Bora rushed behind me and squealed.

“You talked to the new guy, right?”

“Yeah, he’s fine.” I don’t know where we were going with this conversation.

“What do you mean fine?! Are you blind? He’s good looking. You’re checking him out! I saw you!”

“No, I did not.” Am I that transparent? You ARE transparent!

“Whatever. I like him,” Bora said dreamily. “We talked about our kids’ future.”

“You can have him. I have a boyfriend.” And he’s married.

Bora was my classmate. She was a single mom. She got pregnant when she was in high school. I could say that she was a hot mama. Men would always notice her body.

We’re friends but not best of friends. We had a lot of differences. She smoked cigar and I didn’t. She drove a car and I didn’t. She had a kid and I was… inexperienced. Ugh. You meant a . My ity was not an issue here. I would only give it to my future loving husband. Whatever old-fashioned woman.  We’re just different, okay? Sometimes, I thought that I just went along with her because she’s the only girl in my class, aside from me of course and the two lesbians.

So, Bora liked him too and they also talked about their son and daughter being together when they grow up. You called that flirting, Tiffany. What were you? Kindergarten? Shut up subconscious. You’re jealous.  I WAS NOT JEALOUS, OKAY?! Look at you! You’re moping. I was not moping. You’re pouting now. And I was not pouting. Yes, you were. Ugh. Why was I talking to you!

“Why are you pouting there by yourself? Hurry up! I’m hungry!” Bora shouted at me. [/CONTENTID3]
