Olympians Iliad

Description

In the beginning there were twelve that ruled the earth and Heavens, the twelve original gods of Olympus. For millennia the gods and mortals were prosperous, the land fruitful and rich with happiness with the mortals worshipping them as they reigned in their pride and honor. The gods soon grew in hatred and jealousy with one another and also paranoia took over, each one thinking others were conspiring against them.

The original gods raged war against one another, the hatred and temptation growing so strong within themselves it drove them mad into killing anyone standing in their way. Because of this war raging strong in the heavens the earth grew dry and barren, famine and pestilence sweeping the lands and destroying everything the gods had created as well as themselves.

There was one that sought to end this wretched foolishness, Nyx, the goddess of night. One of the primordial deities, daughter of Chaos, the void and creator of the universe. She has stood and reigned since the beginning of time, tired of watching it reduced to ashes again and again. So she remade the gods to her liking, starting the world anew.

Foreword

The Battlefield was shrouded in darkness and the gods grew curious and afraid, as Nyx arrived to end this unnecessary bloodshed. Her raven black hair flowing in tendrils of soft curls, long against her back and s. Her skin pale and white, impenetrable as if it were marble. Her body was covered in a cloak as dark as the night itself, a fog of shadowy black trailing behind as she moved ever so gracefully.

Crying out to distract the olympians from their dumbfounded warfare, her voice loud and infinite as the dark sky she commands. “I grow tired of this stupidity! All of you, the mighty gods of Olympus have let yourselves be so controlled by your hatred and jealousy of each other that you have destroyed everything you sought out so hard to build and create that you also destroyed yourselves, but I have had enough! Enough of watching the world be reduced to nothing but ash again and again. So as punishment for the wrongs you have committed I am creating the earth and heavens anew, your reign is over and a new age shall begin.”

There were gods who tried to stop her from destroying them but they were as easily demolished as they were born, she deemed those as the most evil and locked their souls within Pandora’s box to be tortured by the same evils they had committed against each other. One by one they were erased, etched from history as if they never existed and forged the heavens and earth again, so nothing is tainted by the evils that once ruled.

Nyx called a gathering of all the primordial deities to take hold and view her workings as she commenced them. Creating twelve new beings and molding them to perfection as well as in her liking. There were some who were cautious, weary to say that if something like this could happen once, why not a second time? Although only one spoke his mind, Thanatos, primordial deity of death and son of Nyx.

“Mother please, these gods were foolish and unnecessary, there is no need to create more. Let me take their souls and we shall leave the earth as is.” Thanatos tries to plea his case to his mother but she cuts him off with a maternal fury.

“You dare to say that my creations will turn into the same monstrosities as before?” Nyx stares at her son, the gleam of hurt masked behind her sapphire and lilac eyes. “The earth deserves a second chance my child, and so does Olympus. These gods will live without hatred and jealousy as well as the other evils that the ones before them faced. It will be an Eden for the humans and Olympians alike.” she finishes, trying to reassure everyone that what she says is true.

“I understand mother, please continue.” Thanatos murmurs, trying to hide the embarrassment he feels from his mother lashing at him and continues to watch her as she creates these twelve gods out of thin air.

Nyx outstretches her hand and a fog seeps from her palm, falling ever so slightly onto the ground and forming thick and full as it grows. The fog moves and forms into a line of twelve clouds and spins in gentle circles, spinning closer and closer to the ground until the fog is completely gone. Leaving twelve beautiful boys in its absence, fully grown and shaking in confusion.

“Now my children, don’t be frightened. I created you from my very being, you are the new gods of Olympus and shall be everything the ones before you were not.” Nyx begins, explaining to them every detail so they were sure to know all they should.

Nyx makes her way down the line of new creations, stopping at each one to bestow them their realm of rule and gifts.

She named them as if they had existed before and were written down in history, their names coming as easy to her as if it were memory. Nyx speaks with clarity and a command that no one could ignore.

“Sehun, God of wine, celebrations, and ecstasy. I bestow to you two gifts, a Thyrsus topped with a crystal pinecone and a crystal wine glass that will never empty.” The thyrsus appears in Sehun’s right hand and the glass in his left. “Be merry my child” Nyx continues, “and enjoy endless celebration.”

“Kris, god of the sky, and thunder. Your power is great and your law just, I bestow to you a golden scepter so your ruling may be final.” She waves her arm and the scepter forms within Kris’ right hand.

Nyx continues down the line of her newly formed creations, watching them with a motherly eye and feeling proud with herself for what she has done.

“Suho, god of marriage and family. I bestow to you a silver diadem, encrusted with jewels the shape and color of pomegranate seeds.” She waves her arm and the diadem forms atop Suho’s head.

“Tao, god of wisdom, defense, and strategic warfare. My gift to you is this silver and gold armor, as well as this spear.” Nyx finishes and the armor forms around Tao’s body as if it were there the entire time, the spear appearing before him, sticking in the ground waiting for him to grasp.

“Chen, Master blacksmith and craftsman of the gods; god of fire and the forge. I bestow to you a hammer and anvil to craft weapons and smith to your liking.” The hammer and anvil appearing before him and he looks at it as if it were a part of his very soul.

“Kai, Messenger of the gods; god of commerce, thieves, and games. I give to you this Caduceus.” She continues, a gold staff with two serpents wrapped around the shaft, two wings placed on the top levitates within his reach. “You’re the fastest of the gods,” Nyx continues, “and you’re allowed to travel between worlds freely to deliver messages from one god to the next, use this gift wisely.” and with that said Kai grasps the Caduceus and Nyx continues on.

“Kyungsoo, God of the seas, earthquakes, and tidal waves. I give to you this trident, your voice can be as soothing as the eve and flow of the ocean but can also be as commanding and strong as a crashing wave.” Kyungsoo holds out his hands and the trident forms horizontally within them, it gleaming as if the sun was hitting it as it was setting on the horizon of the sea even though it was night. “The ocean is a mysterious place, but you command every wave.” Nyx finishes, and grazes her hand on his shoulder moving down to her next creation.

“Chanyeol, God of war, violence, and bloodshed. Before you people were scared, you brought destruction with you wherever you went and people only called upon your name for the sheer joy of watching people suffer.” Nyx states, giving Chanyeol a sympathetic look and cupping his face within her hand, his skin warm against her cool and sincere touch. “But that is no longer you, and is only a necessary means to war, you are a protecter, you are a hero, and you are a warrior.” A shield appears on his left arm adorn with etchings and beautiful carvings within warm bronze, as well as a blade of shimmering gold forming within his right. “Protect your brothers on the front lines, and lead them strong into battle.” Nyx finishes and moves on, her smile becoming brighter with every step.

“Yixing, God of fertility, agriculture, nature, and the seasons. I bestow to you a torch that will never burn out, so you may light the fields, and the plants and crops will grow with ease.” Nyx waves her arm and the torch appears next to Yixing, firmly planted in the ground, illuminating all his soft features. “Without you there would be no food, and there would be no life, your existence is just as important as the sun itself.” Nyx holds Yixing’s hand and looks him in the the eyes, assuring him of his importance and continues on.

“Xiumin, God of love, beauty, and desire. Your looks match no other and with a simple gaze can make anyone weak. You are desired and wanted by all, and your charms are never rivaled.” A platinum necklace wraps low around Xiumin’s neck and at the end, glistens a beautiful diamond shining in the light from the moon above. “With that, you can bend any ones will and desires, even the will of a god.” Xiumin fumbles the gorgeous stone with his fingertips and Nyx has already gone to the next.

“Luhan, God of the hunt, ity, childbirth, archery, the moon, and all animals. Your arrow pierces true and pure, hitting which ever target you lay aim towards.” And a silver bow illuminates against his back, tucked neatly next to a quiver of iridescent arrows. “You’re the protecter of the innocent and the moon always lights your path.” And Luhan looks straight up at the glowing orb in the sky, it shining within his irises as if they were one, and he smiles. Nyx finally reaching the end of the line, her last creation, her final child.

“Baekhyun, God of light, knowledge, healing, the arts, music, poetry, prophecy, archery, the sun, manly youth, and beauty. My child you are happiness, you are the embodiment of everything wonderful in this world, walking laughter.” Nyx lays a kiss atop the shorter boys head and lightly his hair as she outstretches and looks at his face, smiling brightly at him. “Your voice liquified gold, your hands can strum any instrument, can play anything anyone hands you. The sun lights your path and shows you exactly where you need to go.” Baekhyun laughs, and his mouth opens wide, his eyes becoming crescent and warming everyones hearts with a simple tone of voice. “Here I give this to you,” Nyx begins, reaching inside her cloak to reveal a golden harp, the strings glowing as if the sun were inside its very being. Baekhyun’s eyes grow wide and he outstretches his arms, whilst Nyx gently places the gift within his reach. He grazes his fingertips along the chords and it’s as if the whole world stops. The sound of soft melodies soaring through the still air, lightening the atmosphere and putting everyone at ease. “It can also transform into a bow, that can shoot rays of light, this is my gift to you, use it well.” Then Nyx steps away to take one last glance at everything she has created, holding her hands close to her heart, having grown very fond of her new children.

“There are realms for each one of you on top of Mount Olympus, and that will be your home.” She informs them, “I leave you to your own now, may you reign just and I will be watching over you.” Nyx smiles goodbye and within a cloud of smoke she vanishes, leaving them to fend for themselves but always watching them with a motherly eye.

Chapter 1: I'm a bit conflicted with Xiumin being Aphrodite's replacement. I've never been too fond of her, but what about you authornims, which greek gods are your favorites? On a side note, I loved this chapter, it was fun to read and made my day a little bit, especially with the Baekyeol and small Xiuhan moment.
