Like the Sun and the Moon

Description

So I'm not actually in this fandom. This is just a birthday present for my friend, this is her favorite pairing so I figured why not? I don't know the band very well so if the dynamics are off I apologize. Also I don't have a beta for this site and I'm way too lazy to properly edit so i hope it isn't too horrible. Enjoy.

There's something distinct about the sun. How beautiful the sun rise can be, captivating, so bright and inviting, but you can't stare too long, like a siren, calling you only for you to be hurt. The sun demands attention, drawing the biggest crowd in the world, the universe. It's the brightest star. Sehun is the sun. Bright, loud, and ever so prominent.

Countering the suns brightness is the moon. Offering a dim glow, unappreciated by many. The moon is calm, yet like the sun it pulls you in too, along with the tides. It's faint, yet prominent, without it there would be total darkness. It holds a certain mystery, intriguing in a less announced way. Luhan is the moon. Soft, subtle, and always there to guide you in your darkest times.

Much like the sun and the moon, Sehun and Luhan balance each other out. Luhan is the only one who can calm Sehun and Sehun brings out a side in Luhan that no one ever knew existed, including Luhan.

Together they shine, a most beautiful light glimmering across both their faces. Smiles coming home at the sight of each other. But of course the sun and the moon don't interact, they don't see what the other does for them. Neither boy knows how the other feels, and neither will ever tell.

Luhan was singing softly to himself while he tidies up the kitchen. He was so in his own world that he didn't notice Sehun come in. Normally Sehun makes an entrance, but he doesn't want to spoil the purity of Luhan's voice. It's enchanting, Sehun thought to himself. Of course he knows the softness of Luhan's voice better than everyone else, all those restless nights on tour when Luhan would sing him to sleep, yet it still amazes Sehun like it was the first time.

To Sehun, Luhan was pure beauty, at first he thought it had just been admiration of his elder, but he came to accept that it was more than that. The thought of love terrified him, but he knew nothing else could cause these feelings, he had come to terms with it, but telling Luhan was a whole different story. He typically didn't hold anything back, but rejection was something he didn't think he could get past, so he kept his heart sheltered the best way he knew how. Instead of letting it out and letting Luhan protect it for him.

The singing stopped abruptly and Sehun realized he'd been caught. He smiled sheepishly at Luhan. “I didn't hear you come in,” Luhan stated the obvious after a beat of silence.

“I didn't want to interrupt you, you seemed peaceful,” Sehun shrugged, brushing past him, “I'll be in my room if you need me,” he left quickly as to not say anything he would regret, he couldn't risk it.

Luhan was confused. Lately Sehun was always running away, they used to be so close, almost inseparable, now Sehun seemed perfectly content walking straight from his arms. It cut Luhan deep. He would be kidding himself if he said he hadn't been harboring feelings for the younger boy for some time now. Honestly he had felt something different right when they first had met. It was easy to accept, Luhan had always found himself a tad attracted to men, he had expected it to be a little crush, so when it blossomed into more, he was a little freaked out, it took time for him to truly be okay with it, but he figured as long as he kept it a secret, everything would be normal and alright.

It seemed he had slipped up though, that was the only possible explanation for Sehun's sudden disappearing act whenever they were alone together. He had let his affection show, and Sehun had been disgusted by it. Luhan felt helpless, he certainly didn't want to lose Sehun as a friend. Luhan didn't know what to do, he didn't know if there honestly was anything to do. He supposed it would be best to keep his space, no matter how much it hurt.

Almost a week goes by before Luhan and Sehun speak again. Sehun had been doing such a great job of ignoring Luhan that he didn't even realize that the older boy had been doing the same. He did wonder why though, perhaps it was just Luhan's way of getting back.

Though it was killing both boys not to speak, they still managed to keep their distance. It wasn't until they were scheduled for an interview with just the two of them that they had to associate at all. They were forced into a car together, making for a very awkward trip. Finally, about halfway through the journey, Sehun cracked. “Alright, I surrender. Why have you been ignoring me?” he asked, turning to face the older boy.

Luhan looked somewhat offended, “You were ignoring me first,” he replied back stubbornly, Luhan wasn't typically stubborn, but Sehun could bring out the worst in him.

“No I wasn't!” Sehun explained, sinking back into his seat when he got a glare from Luhan, “I've just had a lot on my mind recently.”

Luhan rolled his eyes, “Right, of course. And as your best friend you've never come to me with your problems before, I completely understand.” Luhan was mad, he had the right to be, but he was just as guilty.

“Some things you can't just talk to people about,” Sehun tried to reason, “I needed to figure it out for myself first.”

Luhan softened a bit, scooting closer to his younger band mate, “You know you can tell me anything right?” he looked into Sehun's eyes, his own glistening with meaning.

“Oh course,” Sehun took a deep breath, “I'm gay,” he finally said.

Luhan looked shocked for a moment before relaxing, he pulled Sehun into a hug, feeling the younger boy relax immediately. “You really thought I'd judge you,” he whispered into Sehun's ear, “Do you not know me at all?” Sehun could feel the teasing smile against his ear, coaxing him into a smile as well.

“I know it's stupid, but you know how much I value your opinion,” Sehun ducked to hide a blush once they had pulled apart.

“Right idiot you are,” Luhan smiled fondly, “Nothing could make me dislike you Sehun, I love you too much for that.”

Sehun's heart speed up at the sound of those words, though they held a different meaning than he wanted them to, they still made him shiver. “I love you too,” he forced a smile, because his words would always hold a different meaning.

“I suppose if we're onto confessing things I should probably point out that I'm not completely straight either,” Luhan stated casually. Sehun's jaw just about dropped.

“There's no way,” Sehun shook his head, “you don't have to say that just to make me feel better.”

“I would never,” Luhan stared at him, “I've felt like this for most of my life and I figured if we came out together it might make it a little easier for both of us.”

Sehun blushed again, “But not together though,” he said, “two gay guys coming out at the same time together, the boys are going to eat that up,” he laughed.

Luhan hid his disappointment by laughing along. He was just glad they were talking again, and everything could go back to normal, sort of.

They told the band the next day. As expected no one had any problems with it. They all congratulated them for having the courage to come out. It wasn't until after when Luhan was getting ready for bed that Xiumin came in to speak with him. “Mind if I have a word?” he asked politely, but Luhan knew he would still talk anyway, so Luhan gave him a small nod, gesturing for him to continue.

“Are you and Sehun like together? Because if you are everyone would be totally okay with it, that's not something you need to hide,” Xiumin explained kindly.

Luhan shook his head a little too sadly, “No we're not, I know it seems that way, but we're just friends,” he tried to conceal his frown, but Xiumin saw through it easily.

“But you want to be more than that?” he concluded.

Luhan didn't even try to hide it, he just nodded lamely. Xiumin stepped foreward and wrapped him in a hug, “It'll be alright, he'll come around,” he cooed into his friends ear. They were so distracted that they didn't notice Sehun standing at the door. He stormed away quickly after he realized what he was seeing.

Sehun paced angrily, hand curled up in a fist, almost ready to punch the wall when Baekhyun walked in. “Whoa whoa,” he quickly ran over to Sehun, placing his hands on his shoulders to steady him, “What on earth is wrong with you.”

Sehun let out a harsh breath, “I just didn't expect it is all, it's not like I have any claim to him, but god I love him and he goes off with Xiumin just like that, like I'm nothing.”

Baekhyun looked at him knowingly, “Trouble in paradise I see, I knew there was more to it. What exactly happened?” he wondered.

“I just walked on them in a real intimate position is all,” Sehun shrugged, pretending it didn't bother him.

“Sehun, we're a band of cuddlers, we're all all over each other, I doubt it was something to be worried about, besides, Xiumin's got a girlfriend, there's nothing to worry about,” Baekhyun reasoned with him.

Sehun nodded, “I guess you're right,” his fist was uncurled by now, “Wait Xiumin's got a girlfriend?”

“Shoot,” Baekhyun mentally cursed himself, “I wasn't supposed to tell anyone, I'm not even supposed to know,” he looked worried.

“Don't worry, I won't let it slip.” Baekhyun let out a relieved breath.

“Thanks,” he said.

“Not thank you,” Sehun told him, “I don't know what I would have done if you weren't around.”

“probably murdered Xiumin,” Baekhyun joked, “but seriously, I think you should tell Luhan, it's helping neither of you to go on like this.”

Sehun sighed, “He won't feel the same way though.”

“You never know,” Baekhyun patted his shoulder, “And even if he doesn't, wouldn't you rather know so you won't have to keep wondering. You know he won't hate you no matter what.”

“Yeah but still, it's scary,” Sehun looked down, he was never one to back out, Baekhyun had never seen him like this.

“Love is scary,” Baekhyun said wisely, “but it is always worth taking the risk.” He smiled before exiting the room, leaving Sehun to his own thoughts.

When Sehun finally gathered up the courage to tell Luhan how he felt, Luhan was already in bed, reading, looking too adorable to be legal.

“Come in,” Luhan teased when he looked up from his book.

“We need to talk,” Sehun stated bluntly, with a straight face, but inside he was full of nerves.

“Hopefully nothing bad,” Luhan bit his lip nervously.

Sehun shook his head at first but seemed to reconsider, “Well that depends I guess.”

Luhan nodded like he understood. “I don't know how to say this exactly,” Sehun begun.

Luhan patted the bed beside him and sat up a bit as Sehun sat down, “Take your time,” he soothed.

It was unfair really. Luhan was always so patient with him, so caring and god Sehun just loved him more than anything, so he said exactly that.

Luhan immediately felt the passion behind Sehun's words, it wasn't just friendly, he tilted his head in a confused manner. Sehun thought he looked adorable.

“You're just so everything and I don't know how you do it but you manage to always capture my attention, even when I'm not with you and it's just really hard,” he babbled, “I just thought you should know.”

Luhan didn't say anything for a moment, worrying Sehun that he might have made the completely wrong decision. Then Luhan set his book down still looking into Sehun's eyes and suddenly the gap between the wasn't so large anymore. Luhan kissed exactly how Sehun had imagined, slow, sweet, but still so prominent. His hand rested on Sehun's face, cradling it gently while he deepened the kiss. Although Sehun wasn't completely sure what this meant, he would be a fool to pull away so he let himself sink into the kiss, let Luhan take control, and let himself finally let go enough to consider the possibility that maybe possibly, Luhan may feel the same.

They kissed until they ran out of breath, then they gently pulled away, foreheads resting against one anothers, lips swollen, breathing heavily. Luhan leaned forward to capture Sehun's lips once more in a quick peck before pulling away, “I'm in love with you,” he said easily. Sehun's face broke out in a smile.

“Oh thank god,” he said, clearly relieved.

“How could I not be?” Luhan questioned, “You just have this way about you, you light up any room you walk into, and you've been lighting up my heart since the day I met you.”

Sehun bit his lip, “Really?”

“Of course,” Luhan told him solemnly, “and don't you ever forget it.”

“As long as you're here I won't,” Sehun smiled again, before bringing their lips together once more, knowing it would be far from the last time he got to.

And so darkness and light met in a less sinister way, they showed each other their own ways, and learned to cope with the differences. It balanced them out, much like they had done with the universe, because some things really are just as simple as the sun and the moon.
