Up and Down
Ding Dong. Dongwook poked his head out of the kitchen. *Huh? Who’s here?* He took his oven mitten off and came over. “Who is it?” Dongwook opened the door. His eyes widened, “~~~~~~!”
“You have a bad habit of opening the door before you hear the answer, too.” You gave him a small smile.
“Come in, come in!” Dongwook urged.
You entered his house. “You should’ve given me a call if you were coming. I would’ve picked you up.” He said.
You shook your head, “I wanted to come on my own.” You saw his table set up with food. “You were eating dinner?”
“Yeah, did you eat?” Dongwook asked. You nodded. “Do you still want some?” He got a bowl out. You shook your head, “No thanks. I’m full.” You sat across from Dongwook. You opened the lid of the stew.
To your surprise, it was bean paste stew. You took his spoon and had a sip of the stew. It tasted just as good as Jaejoong’s. “You’re also a good cook, oppa.”
“Who else is?” Dongwook asked, confused. When you didn’t reply, he knew.
After dinner, you helped him wash and dry the dishes. Dongwook cut fruit and the two of you relaxed in his living room. “I heard Jaejoong and you decided to go back to normal. So shouldn’t you go home by now?” He glanced at his watch.
“Eh.” You shrugged. “He’s not home anyways…he went to eat dinner with Ahyoung.”
Dongwook looked at you. The sadness was back and it looked like it was here to stay. “Are you okay?” He asked, although the question was obvious. “I will be. I’m just going to take a nap, okay, oppa?” You shut your eyes.
When Dongwook was sure you were asleep, he grabbed a blanket from the drawer and put it over you. With a small sigh, he sat on the ground next to the sofa you were laying on. Dongwook gazed at you for a long time. He reached out and stroked your forehead with the back of his two fingers. *I don’t like how Jaejoong has the power to bring your mood up or down. I hate how he affects your happiness now. You should be in charge of your own happiness. It hurts me when you’re hurting over him.*
Dongwook gently pressed his lips against your forehead and gave you a small smile. He got up and went to grab his laptop. His paperwork covered the coffee table and his laptop and ipad was open.
Dongwook would occasionally glance at you to check on you. You stirred in your sleep but otherwise, you didn’t wake up. Dongwook just pulled the blanket over you and continued with his project.
Ahyoung, Yoochun, and Jaejoong were still at the restaurant. Jaejoong could hear their laughter but he wasn’t really listening to the conversation. He kept glancing at his phone and tapping his watch. “Jaejoong, you remember that, huh?” Yoochun asked. He looked up, “What?”
Ahyoung frowned, “Jaejoong, were you even listening to us?” “Sorry.” He straightened up.
Ahyoung stuck her lips out as she played with the straw of her cocktail, “You know, you’ve been doing that a lot lately.” “Doing what?” Jaejoong asked, clueless.
“Looking at your phone and not paying attention to me.” She replied. “Oh.” He looked at his phone again.
“See!” Ahyoung threw up her arms.
“I’m sorry.” Jaejoong apologized. *I’m just worried if ~~~~~~~~ ate dinner or not. I know she doesn’t like eating alone. I should have just brought her. Damn.* He abruptly stood up, “I have to go.” Jaejoong grabbed his keys and left.
“Yah, Kim Jaejoong!” Yoochun called but he was already gone. *He’s not going back home to his wife, is he?* Ahyoung wondered.
Jaejoong’s car skidded into the garage. He burst inside the mansion but everything was dark. *Where did she go now?!* Jaejoong took his phone out and called you.
Your phone started to vibrate. Dongwook looked up from his paperwork. He picked it up and looked at the caller id. *Kim Jaejoong.* Dongwook pressed send and put the phone to his ear. “~~~~~ where’d you go?! I came home early for you! Did you eat yet?”
“You’re worrying pretty early.” He said, not amused at all.
Jaejoong froze. “Who- who is this?”
“Why would you leave her in the first place if you were going to worry about her anyways? I don’t understand a guy like you Kim Jaejoong.” Dongwook growled.
Jaejoong furrowed his eyebrows, “Where is ~~~~~~~~~~~?”
Dongwook glanced at you, “She can’t answer right now.”
“Why not?” Jaejoong snarled.
“I know you two agreed to not be strangers anymore but I disagree. Whatever she does is none of your business.” Dongwook hung up.
*Damn! Why do these guys always steal her?!* Jaejoong quickly got to finding Dongwook’s address.
Ding Dong. Ding Dong. Ding Dong.
Dongwook knew who it was before he opened the door.
Jaejoong angrily glared at him. “You were hiding her here all along?” He shoved past Dongwook and walked towards the sofa. You were still asleep.
Jaejoong yanked the blanket off of you. He draped your arm around his neck and lifted you up. “What…?” You murmured in your sleep. Jaejoong headed towards the door.
Dongwook grabbed his arm. Jaejoong furiously glared at him *Now what?*
“I don’t want you to ever hurt her again.” Dongwook warned.
“I hate the way you have a big influence on her now. She’s not the same ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I knew. The smile used to always be on her face. But after she met you, it’s slowly disappearing.” Dongwook said. Jaejoong glanced at you. “Please be good to her. You probably don’t see her that way but to everyone’s eyes, she’s a priceless treasure. If you bring tears to her eyes again, I can’t let you be with her anymore.” Dongwook threatened.
Jaejoong ignored him and walked out of the house.
Dongwook sighed and shook his head *I hope he takes my advice because I’m serious. If he blows this last chance, I won’t just stand by.*
Jaejoong carried you to his car and placed you in the passanger seat. He clipped the seatbelt on you and shut the door. Jaejoong came into the driver’s seat and looked at you. His expression softened. *Do I really make your smile disappear?* With a sigh, Jaejoong shifted his gear to drive and drove home.
