Saturday evening, it was raining. *Why does it have to have to rain on Ahyoung’s birthday?* Jaejoong came down in nice clothes. He dusted lint off his shoulder with the gift bag in hand.

From the couch, you put your magazine down and looked up. You quickly sat up, “Jaejoong oppa! Are you busy?” He tilted his head in curiosity, “Why?”

Beaming, you held up Monopoly, “Want a rematch?”

Jaejoong blinked in surprise. *Did she forget?* As tempting as it sounded, he had to reject you. “I’m going out right now.”

“Where?” You asked. He held up the gift bag, “To Ahyoung’s birthday party.”

“Oh. Right. I forgot.” Your shoulders slumped in dejection.

Jaejoong wanted to invite you, but he had promised Ahyoung not to bring you. “I should be back soon.” He comforted.

You shrugged and lay back down with the magazine over your face, “Come back whenever you want. I’ll be fine.” Jaejoong couldn’t believe that. “Lock the doors, all right?”

“Don’t worry about me and just go.” You waved.

Jaejoong paused. He grabbed his car keys and peeked at you again. “I’m really going.” You didn’t stop him. “Don’t forget to lock the door.” Jaejoong left.

You put the magazine down and made a face. *You’re really just leaving me?* You sat up with a dreary sigh. *But I hate staying alone when it’s raining.* You jumped as a flash of lightning and roar of thunder filled the room. The lights blinked twice and turned back on. You grabbed the blanket and hid yourself under it. *Another reason why I hate the rain…THUNDERSTORMS!*

Jaejoong looked up at the pouring sky. Another lightning streaked across the gray clouds. His thoughts immediately went to you. *She’s home all alone in this weather. I wonder if she shut the windows. Did she even lock the doors?* Jaejoong took out his phone to call you but stopped. *Whatever. Why am I so worked up over her? She was fine alone before and she’ll be fine now.* He put his phone away.

Jaejoong arrived at Ahyoung’s place. “Jaejoong!” She happily threw her arms around his neck. A big grin grew on his face.

Ahyoung pulled back and beamed, “I’m so happy you came!” She pouted, “Most of my guests couldn’t come because of the weather but I knew you would come no matter what.” All regret and doubt left his mind at once. “Of course I would come. Happy Birthday, Ahyoung.” Jaejoong handed her the gift and kissed her cheek. She beamed widely, “Thank you, Jaejoong! Come on in! There are plenty of food and drinks! Don’t go home until you’ve ate them all!” Ahyoung lightly laughed.

Jaejoong smiled and put his hands in his pockets. He stopped when he saw Yoochun. “Hey, you made it.” Jaejoong nodded, “So did you.” “I came before the rain started.” Yoochun said. *Lucky. He got to spend more time with Ahyoung.* Jaejoong envied.

Yoochun searched behind him. “What?”

Jaejoong blinked.

“You didn’t bring ~~~~~~~?” Yoochun asked.

On one hand, Jaejoong was surprised by his question. But on the other hand, he was quite annoyed. *Why does he keep looking for her?* “Anyoung told me not to, remember?” Jaejoong sourly reminded.

“I know that but…” Yoochun looked out the window, “It feels wrong leaving her alone, especially at this time of day when the weather is crazy.” The guilt washed over Jaejoong again.

Ahyoung came over, “What are you two chatting about? Come on! I’m going to open my gifts!” She dragged them over and he forgot about you for the moment.

Around two in the morning, Jaejoong came back home. It was still raining outside but the thunder had died down. “What the-“ He stared at the unexpected situation. “What is she still doing here?!”

You were lying on the couch with the blanket pulled over your head. Jaejoong unveiled the blanket to find you fast asleep. *Aigoo. She’s such a kid. She’s 24 and she’s afraid of thunderstorms still.* He shook his head but chuckled.

Jaejoong slipped his arms underneath you and lifted you up. Carefully, he carried you upstairs. Jaejoong felt a flutter in his heart as your head cradled against his shoulder. He opened your bedroom door and carried you inside.

Gently as possible, Jaejoong laid you on the bed. He pulled the blanket over you and looked up.

Your window was widely open.

Jaejoong walked over, pulled the window down, and locked it just in case. He glanced at you one more time. “Good night, ~~~~~~~~~.” Jaejoong whispered close to your ear, smiled, and left the room.
