Taekwoon watched the young werewolf boy on the other side of the room carefully. The boy looked so…..small. No, small wasn’t the right word. More like……it looked to Taekwoon like he might shatter at any moment. The boy was covered in cuts and blood, shaking like a leaf while Taekwoon’s mother wrapped third blanket around him.
“He’s from the Northern Pack,” Taekwoon heard his father’s second in command report, “apparently, his father was the alpha and hid him someplace safe with the instruction to come here if anything happened.”
“What happened?” Taekwoon’s father asked, “I can’t imagine that the Northern Pack’s alpha would send his child away unless it was serious.”
“I don’t know,” the other werewolf sighed, “but he said….he said that everyone was dead.”
“Not possible,” Taekwoon turned away from the boy to see his father looking beyond shocked, “how could something like that happen?”
“I can’t answer that,” was the response, “the boy hasn’t spoken since.”
Taekwoon returned his attention to the boy. The kid was a mystery, a puzzle just waiting for someone to solve it. Or maybe he was just a piece of the puzzle and the mystery was what had happened to him. Either way, Taekwoon felt the need to solve it, to come up with the answers for his father. He would be alpha someday after all, figuring out something like this would help him get ready for that.
Silently, Taekwoon made his way over to the boy. However, it would seem he wasn’t quite enough because the boy heard him. The boy looked up and locked eyes with him before tensing, like he expected something bad to happen.
“Please don’t be scared,” Taekwoon’s mother assured the boy, “this is my son, Taekwoon. He isn’t going to do anything to hurt you, sweetie.”
The boy just nodded, looking back at the floor. Every so often, the boy would glance over at Taekwoon as if to make sure the other wasn’t coming any closer.
“What’s your name?” Taekwoon asked after several moments of silence.
“Taekwoon,” his mother scolded him, “don’t pressure him. He’ll talk when he’s ready.”
“S-Sanghyuk,” the boy whispered, so quiet that Taekwoon almost missed it, “Han Sanghyuk.”
Taekwoon nodded, pleased to have the first piece in the puzzle of who the boy was and what had happened to him. But he could wait until Sanghyuk was ready to talk to learn more. For now, he wouldn’t push the boy who had clearly been through something horrible.
A/N: aww, poor Hyukkie. Poor baby’s a wreck.
