Ravi bit back a giggle as he watched Sanghyuk making a mess of his room in pursuit of the object that Ravi had hidden from him. He could tell the poor boy was starting to get frustrated, but that just made it more fun. That just made the game interesting for Ravi, Sanghyuk’s personal monster.
Referring to himself as Sanghyuk’s personal monster actually……made Ravi’s smile fade away.
He wasn’t going to be Sanghyuk’s monster for much longer. He’d already stayed with the young boy longer than most monsters got to stay with the children they were assigned to. Ravi didn’t know why he’d gotten to stay with Sanghyuk for so long, but he knew his time would soon be up. It just that the last several years had been spent without Sanghyuk believing in him, unable to see him.
Ravi could kill whoever had convinced his Sanghyuk that monsters weren’t real. That the monster hiding in his closet and under his bed was nothing more than an image created by his imagination. Each time a parent or friend had told Sanghyuk that Ravi wasn’t real, it had killed Sanghyuk’s own belief until he too thought Ravi was just a figment of his imagination.
Now, the only way he had of making his presence known to Sanghyuk was taking and hiding the boy’s things. Sanghyuk always brushed it off as nothing, but the fact he noticed the missing items was almost as good as him noticing Ravi’s existence. As Ravi had told his friends, it was better than nothing at all.
“Here!” Sanghyuk smiled upon finding one of the pens that Ravi had hidden from him.
Ravi watched with a small frown as Sanghyuk rushed back to his laptop, writing down the information shown there on the first piece of paper he could get his hands on, before running out of the room to retrieve his phone from the kitchen table.
Ravi waited until Sanghyuk was gone before becoming visible. Slowly, he walked around the room, trying to memorize everything he saw. Glancing over at the computer screen, he felt tears beginning to well up. Soon, a couple of weeks from now, Sanghyuk would be going off to college and living in the dorms. And Ravi would be assigned to another kid. He didn’t want to leave Sanghyuk, but he could no longer dodge reassignment.
The rules for monsters like Ravi were very clear. They were all assigned a child to scare, becoming that child’s ‘monster under the bed’ or ‘monster in the closet’ until the child was too old for monsters. This was why Ravi didn’t understand how he had managed to stay with Sanghyuk for so long. Normally, children were deemed ‘too old’ when they either stopped believing in monsters or were no longer scared of their monster.
Sanghyuk had never been scared of Ravi – that was probably why he’d gotten so attached to the human. When he became a non-believer Ravi should have been reassigned. That should have been enough to get him removed since there were plenty of other children out there in need of a monster. But he wasn’t. He was still with Sanghyuk after seven years of no fear and disbelief. Not that Ravi wasn’t grateful, he was, but it made him wonder just how he had managed to slip under the radar for so long.
“Ravi.”
Ravi turned to find two of his friends, N and Ken, standing behind him looking just as sad as he felt. They knew how much he cared for Sanghyuk and they knew how much it would pain him to be separated from him.
“Let’s go,” Ken smiled sadly, holding out a hand to the younger monster, “the monster king wants to see you.”
“I didn’t even get to say goodbye,” Ravi sighed, but took Ken’s hand none the less.
The three vanished from sight, leaving Sanghyuk’s bedroom for their own realm.
A/N: so, I saw this (here) and got the idea to do, well, this *points to story* gotta love a Rahyuk/Luck love triangle, right people? Hahaha. And yes, yes I did turn a WonTaek thing into a Rahyuk/Luck thing. I wanna say something like “I’m just cool like that” but I’m not sure if it fits (more like “I’m just biased like that” haha). What do you guys think? Should I turn this into the new AU series? I mean, the Luck vampire AU is going to be ending soon (oops, did I say that out loud *rubs back of head awkwardly*) so…..why not start a new AU to fill the void?
