N knew for a fact that he’d never seen the guy in the elevator before. After all, N knew everyone in his apartment building – he was very proud of that, even if all his friends found it weird that he’d taken time to learn the names of people he’d only ever met once. Regardless, he knew the guy standing beside him was new to the building and instinct told him to greet the other like he’d do anyone else.

And yet, N kept his mouth shut and only looked at the guy through the reflection in the elevator door.

Oh, he really wanted to say something to the guy. Yet for some reason......his words were frozen in his throat. He wanted to at least say hello, but.......the words didn’t want to come.

“Hey,” the guy suddenly said, “I’m new to the area, do you know any coffee shops around here?”

“Y-Yeah,” N nodded, “there’s one just down the street.”

“Alright,” the guy nodded, “my brother likes his coffee, but apparently I don’t make good coffee.”

“You live with your brother?” N asked, thanking whatever god was listening that he didn’t stutter again.

“Yeah,” the guy nodded, “Leo.”

“You’re Leo’s brother?” N asked, “He said he had one, but he didn’t say you were coming. Why wouldn’t he tell me? We’re best friends.”

“He didn’t know I was coming until I showed up last night on his doorstep,” the guy shrugged, “things....kind of happened with my boyfriend. Well, ex boyfriend. Doesn’t matter, I’m done with that . Been done for a while.”

“I’m sorry,” N said, trying to ignore the spark of sadness followed by hope that came with the guy’s words.

“Don’t worry about it,” the guy said, “I’m Hyuk by the way. I’m guessing you’re......N?”

“Yeah,” N nodded, “it’s nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you, too,” Hyuk smiled and N couldn’t ignore the warm feeling in his stomach.

“Are you going to be staying with Leo long?” N eventually asked as the pair walked home from the coffee shop.

“I’m thinking of it,” Hyuk nodded, “Leo wants me to stay, just not sure if I’ll take him up on the offer.”

“I hope you do,” N quickly covered his mouth, embarrassed that the words had gotten out so easily.

“Maybe I will,” Hyuk laughed, clearly enjoying the expression on N’s face, “guess you’ll be seeing a lot of me, huh?”

“I g-guess,” N nodded.
