It could have been any day. Any old random day. But no, no it had to be Hyuk’s birthday. Seriously? Ken was fine with forgetting that it was.......Monday. Or the third day of the month. Any old random day, he could forget it and everything would be fine. The world would keep spinning and he wouldn’t have seen that hurt look in Hyuk’s eyes that lasted for a second before Hyuk managed to cover up his feelings with a ‘it’s alright, hyung. It’s not a big deal.’

But nope. The vocal wasn’t that lucky because the day he forgot had to be his best friend, maknae, and secret crush’s birthday. And then the others had to go and make it worse by sending him those ‘seriously? You forgot his birthday. Some hyung you are’ looks like they had been all dang day. Ken hated those looked so dang much. He knew he’d messed up, why did they have to keep reminding him?

And that had lead him to leaving the dorm first chance he got. At first, he thought that he’d just run out and get Hyuk something quickly, but then he realized how stupid that sounded. Hyuk already knew he’d forgotten – thank you very much Hongbin and Ravi – so he’d know that the gift wasn’t some well thought-out something special. Not like the others who’d remembered to get something for the maknae.

“Hyung!” Hyuk called, suddenly sitting down beside the vocal, “what are you doing out here?”

“Sulking,” Ken sighed, “I messed up. I’m so sorry I forgot your birthday, Hyuk.”

“Not going to lie,” Hyuk said, “it would have been nice to get something from you. But it doesn’t really matter. I’d rather spend my birthday with you just.......hanging out like we always do.”

“I should have remembered,” Ken scowled, “I should feel like crap about it. Don’t try to make me feel better, Hyukkie.”

“I’m not,” Hyuk sighed, “I just......do you really want to make it up to me, hyung?”

“Yes,” Ken looked over Hyuk took the chance to quickly kiss the older.

“There,” Hyuk grinned brightly, “that’s the best gift you could ever give me, hyung.” Ken sat there stunned for a moment before a smile lit up his face.

“Then I’ll kiss you every year for your birthday,“ Ken promised, “and every other day, too.”

Hyuk smiled back even brighter than before and Ken could see the faint blush lighting up his cheeks.
