Foreword
Some of you have been wondering about those little notes Leigh wrote to Luhan at the beginning of every chapter of DLWL. Did they actually exist? Were they part of a diary of frustration? Did she actually send them to him? Were they angsty text messages she wrote him? What language were they in?
The answers are yes, sort of, not exactly, no, and English.
Yes, they did exist. Leigh wrote them down in a small notebook, initially as a way of channelling her irritation towards somebody she barely knew and couldn't talk to in person very much, and also because she was unable to release all her frustration just by talking to Sehun about it. It was a way of keeping her sanity within all the insanity -- sort of like a worry doll or something. She didn't write them daily -- just when she needed to get something off her chest, or get her mind off things with an inane distraction, or when she felt like telling somebody something when she didn't feel she could actually speak to somebody about it. She had absolutely no intentions of Luhan actually getting hold of this little notebook, particularly after she met him in person in China, but she continued writing the notes as if they were to him because she felt comfortable around him and it was therapeutic. Unfortunately, when she moved to Korea to marry Sehun, Luhan was helping her move house just before her wedding, at which he was best man, and he found the notebook because it fell out of a book box. And being Luhan, he decided to read it. The messages were a little like a diary or fragmented documentary of events, and he decided it would be fun to reply to them all and then return the notebook to her during his speech. By this point, Leigh has been teaching him English for several years, so he has no problem making fluent responses.
And so, without any further ado, allow me to present
