Prologue

"They'll be here any minute." A man in his mid forties, her father, announced glancing at his wrist watch.

Yoona clenched and unclenched her hands anxiously as a feeling of dread crept to the pit of her stomach. A large hand covered over hers in comfort. "It'll be okay." Her brother assured. Yoona mustered a smile in return. Her family were currently at a restaurant waiting for her father's girlfriend and her kids to show up. This would be Yoona and Seulong's first time meeting the woman their father was dating. According to her father, if things went well, then he would propose to her by the end of this year.

Unclenching her hands once more, Yoona wiped her clammy hands on a piece of napkin. The prospect of having a new mother both excited and scared her. For the longest time, Yoona craved for a mother figure she could talk to, to confess her inner most feelings to like in the movies. Her father and brother were great but there were just some things she couldn't talk to them about such as monthly periods...Yet, she was well convinced from her childhood fairy tales that step mothers were never nice. Hiding her face in her hands, she groaned in frustration. She was so ambivalent. There's no way she could like me. The young girl thought to herself bitterly. Otherwise she- "Relax honey, they'll love you." Jihoon comforted as if he sensed her distress and pressed his lips on her temple.

Just as Yoona was about to open to say she wasn't ready for this, the door to their private room opened. "Sorry we're late. There was traffic on Yangchun." A stylish woman who Yoona concluded as her father's girlfriend explained and then leaned in to peck her father on the cheek. 

"That's fine, we just got here." Jihoon waved his hand casually. "Hyori, this is my kids Seulong and Yoona."

Hyori turned to the two mentioned kids with a broad smile. "Nice to meet you guys, your dad has told me so much about you two." While Seulong stood up and bowed politely, Yoona cowered in her seat. She was never one who liked attention. And her father's girlfriend along with her two sons were giving her plenty of attention. From behind, her brother nudged her to stand up. Hesitantly, she got up from her seat and bowed as well.

"These are my two boys. Chanyeol and Jungkook." She introduced the two tall young boys on either side of her.

"Hello," The two brothers bowed, their voice nice and deep. They must be popular, Yoona determined judging by the way they dressed and looked. Both of the boys were attractive, tall and had on brand name clothes. She noticed unlike their mother's eyes, both of the boys had particularly large eyes and both of them were staring in her direction. Yoona cringed and turned away. She didn't have to be a psychic to know they were judging her.

"Come, let's sit down and eat. I've already ordered for us." Jihoon waved his hands over to the table full of food.

Dinner was as dreadful as she imagined it to be. Especially when Hyori made a point to ask her if she wanted anymore food when she didn't ask any of the other people present. Though her father kept insisting Hyori meant nothing by it, Yoona swore the woman was poking fun at her. And the two Park boys wouldn't stop staring at her, making her want to dig a hole and crawl in it. Yoona sighed as they parted ways with his father's girlfriend's family. It was just as the fairy tales predicted, step mothers and step siblings were awful. She was Cinderella, while Hyori was the god awful step mother and her sons would be her two step brothers in place of the step sisters. Oh, what was she to do?
