[ I've been wearing this mask for so long, I have no idea who I really am anymore... ]

Kim Sunggyu held power in his hands. His authority unchallenged, not even by the Conclave. Silence was an imposition, a shackle that threatened to drive him to insanity and he knew the price should he break the chains that bind him. He has seen the hallmarks of change, the life and death that is approaching, he knows that his decision could be the catalyst for their destruction.

He would never surrender to anyone. Nam Woohyun loved that man in his dreams, the one person who could understand him, who accepted all of him but he knew that he was nothing more than an ideal. When he sees one of the most elusive Espers in the world, he wonders if madness had finally come. Was it real or was it all just a dream?

Foreword

SILENCE

In an effort to reduce the overwhelming incidence of insanity and serial killing in the Esper population, the Conclave decided, in the year 2713, to instigate a rigorous program called Silence. The aim of Silence was to condition young Espers from birth. The aim of the conditioning was to teach them not to feel rage.

However, the Conclave soon discovered that it was impossible to isolate that one emotion. In 2713, after a ten year debate over the millions of minds in the Aether, it was decided to change the aim of Silence. Its new mission was to condition young Espers to feel nothing. Not rage, not jealousy, not envy, not happiness and certainly not love.

Silence was a resounding success.

By the year 2814, when the fifth or sixth generation of Espers are being conditioned, everyone has forgotten that they had ever been any other way. The Espers are known to be icily controlled, inhumanly practical and impossible to push to violence.

In keeping with their nature, they base all their decisions on logic and efficiency. According to the Aether, their mistake rate is close to nil.

The Espers are perfect in their Silence.
