Anyways, here's a little flashback of Minseok and Minseul's past together:

“Minseok, this is Minseul and she’ll be your sister starting today,” a middle aged man told his son one evening. Minseok was in his pajamas already and looked very sleepy. He was a chubby boy and was only five years old back then. He yawned a bit, not processing what his father just said. But his senses awoke when the silhouette of the girl appeared by his father’s leg.

“I haven’t legally adopted her though. Don’t be shy, Minseul. Show yourself to Minseok,” the father said as he lightly pushed the young girl. She was cute. She was slightly shorter than Minseok and was wearing a red dress. She looked very sickly and was hiding her face with her scarf. She avoided Minseok’s eyes and looked very shy.

“Why did you have to adopt, appa? Am I not enough for you?” Minseok lightly puffed his cheeks. “And what is le-gal-ly?” He stumbled on his words that made the father chuckle. His father then went to him and patted his head before crouching to his level. “You’ll know the answers to your questions soon. Minseul doesn’t have anywhere else to go than with us. Be a good oppa for your dongsaeng, arasseo?” His father said.

Minseok raised an eyebrow at Minseul who ran towards the couch. “She’s really shy,” his father said. Minseok then looked at him with a pout on his face. His chubby cheeks flushing red. “Ne, appa, I’ll take care of her,” he nodded energetically. “Minseul-ah, come here and introduce yourself!” His father said, going to the couch and Minseul ran again to another hiding place.

“Aiya, don’t tire appa. It’s his time to relax. Appa is a police you know!” Minseok said as he got a grip of Minseul’s wrist. Minseul stared at him for a moment and tilted her head. “Police? What police?” She asked with her broken Korean. “Police like appa defend defenseless people and fight bad guys! They’re like Superman!” Minseok answered with a proud expression on his face. “Uwa, I want to be like him!” Minseul said.

“Ah, that’s so cute,” Minseok’s mother went out of the kitchen, having a plate of cookies in her hands. “I hope you two will have a healthy relationship with each other,” she said settling the plate on the coffee table. The two kids automatically ran towards the table and ate the cookies. Sometimes, Minseok would wipe the crumbs from Minseul’s mouth and Minseul would feed Minseok cookies.

Minseul and Minseok grew up side by side and the two grew into smart students in their schools. Minseul was a year younger than Minseok and she was always bullied because the fact about her being adopted spread through her school. It ended up as Minseul transferring away from Minseok and they grew apart.

“Appa, I have a question,” Minseok said when his father finally went home. “Bwoya?” His father asked as he slumped on the couch. Minseok turned his head and looked at the man. “Why did you adopt Minseul? She’s a pain in the neck sometimes,” Minseok said. His father laughed at the comment. These days, Minseok has only been complaining about Minseul. She used to be such a shy girl and now, she tends to be noisy and messy and Minseok hates that.

“You told me back then you’ll tell me so why did you adopt her?” Minseok asked again. His father bit his lower lip before smiling. “Minseul’s parents are dead,” he said without any tone in his voice. “B-Bwo?” Minseok’s eyes widened. Mr. Kim lightly nodded. “Both of them are my co-workers. Her mother is a detective and her father is a normal police like me. They were killed during one case but before her father died, he told me to take care of Minseul,” his father continued.

“Which case was it? Were the suspects caught?” Minseok asked, completely intrigued by the topic. His father looked away. “Ani… I don’t know what happened to the suspects and Minseul, she doesn’t remember anything. She was with her parents before they were killed. She was shot in the head but recovered miraculously,” his father elaborated.

“Don’t tell her about this though. She shouldn’t know. She might do something rash,” he looked at Minseok with seriousness in his eyes. Minseok nodded. “Ne, appa. I did promise I’ll be a good oppa for her,” he smiled a bit.

“Yah, appa, oppa, what were you talking about?” Minseul suddenly entered the room and kissed her father’s cheek and hugged her brother. Mrs. Kim entered the room with groceries in her arms. “Yeobo, Minseul is so popular with the boys out there. She might be a model once she grows up or once of those idols we see on TV,” she said in a joking manner. “Umma, I don’t want to be a celebrity. I want to be a police like appa!” Minseul cheerfully said, copying a pose from a TV show she recently watched.

Minseok rolled his eyes and the parents laughed. “I can’t imagine you being a police,” Minseok sarcastically said. “Oppa, you’re so mean,” Minseul puffed her cheeks. Minseok just winked at her. “I know, Minnie,” he teased. “You’re Minnie too, oppa!” “Nuh-uh.” “Ah-huh!” “Kids!” Their mother screamed. Minseok and Minseul shut up.

“M-Mianhe, umma,” the two stuttered.

“This is all your fault!” Minseok screamed at Minseul who was already crying. They were in the hospital room and their mother was lying lifeless on the bed. “If you just… If you weren’t careless! If only you were never adopted!” Minseok was being emotional already. “Oppa… I never meant to…” Minseul whispered, her eyes already red and puffy. Her voice was already shaky.

“Just get out! Get out of our lives! Never return here!” Minseok pointed at the door. Mr. Kim wanted to find a way to stop this. But when he tried earlier, it only made things worse. “Alright then! If that’ll make you happy, oppa. I will! I just want your happiness, along with appa’s and umma’s. I never meant…” Minseul shook her head and tried to stop her tears. “Annyeong,” she bowed, Minseok coldly staring at her.

“Annyeong. Saranghae, oppa, appa and…” Minseul stood up and gazed at her mother. “Umma. I’ll disappear from your lives,” she smiled painfully. Minseok felt the tug of regret in his heart. “I’ll see you around, oppa,” and that’s when she disappeared from Minseok’s life. And he never felt more regretful after that because he just made his ‘sister’ leave.

And until now, he wonders how his sister has been doing.
