Renditions (Sin Cara)

Description

Both started as children taken into a troupe, acting for money though they hardly see a cent as a means to survive. Yesung as he aged, started to retaliate, resisting the trade as he protected the men he deemed his brothers, even at the cost of a young man who’s taken with him. Sungmin remained docile for reasons that stem from the past, until he meets with a mysterious patron that’s a newcomer to the town, who he finds has more in common with him than he first assumed.

Foreword

It’s a phrase they’ve all heard once they’re brought before him to Uncle, set to kneel down on the ground, young men and boys of different ages who wait for this man who speaks as if he’s conducting them a high honor.

And after they’re named, they’re stripped off their pasts and start anew. And Uncle always reminds them after:

”I give you all a name. Your identities belong to me.”

Their fates were now decided.

-

The teen Yesung was sent outside without food, and he crossed his arms as he slept against the tree. Even after Uncle left, he remained reluctant to return inside.

And as the hours passed, he heard approaching footsteps and glanced up, Sungmin appeared from the fields and looked his way. Sungmin wordlessly greeted him and Yesung barely extended one back.

The more Sungmin grew up to a young adult, the more he became like his brother, private and a little too prince-like, all qualities he found vexing.

Yesung then turned when he heard Sungmin approach him, and saw a blanket of food placed beside him.

“I don’t need you to feed me, I can survive a night or two without eating.”

Sungmin left it be. The younger boy was usually silent now to Yesung’s chagrin. “Haven’t you heard? With Jisung gone, I’m First Brother now… are you still not going to speak?” He asked and was given no reply, he crossed his arms and ignored the helping. “I’m sure those patrons could care less whether we’re skin and bones, it’s dark in the room anyhow.”

“You will be if this continues.”

Yesung casted a dark look paired with a half-hearted smirk, “So you can speak.”

Sungmin continued monotonously, “Uncle’s furious since you let that girl escape.”

“It’s not the first girl we’ve lost anyhow, why won’t Uncle see we’re merely cursed?” Yesung sneered, as if this escape was another victory against Uncle. “She’s not cut out for this life.”

Sungmin turned to leave.

“Fifth,” Yesung called out, Sungmin paused as Yesung crossed his arms. “At least she realized that.“ He turned his head and looked his way, “Why haven’t you?”

Sungmin made no comment and soon walked inside, Yesung glimpsed at the food and then picked one up. He thinned his lips and said a reluctant “Thank you,” before biting into the food.

He didn’t bother to check if Sungmin heard him, and ate as he wished.

Chapter 2: So far what struck me most other than Kyu's determination of course, is Seventh, that twig/branch and the writing of his name below Kyu's writing. My heart ~

Chapter 5: I'm so happy you updated :)
I really enjoyed the interactions between Hae and Min and finding out more about their past. The joss paper scene was very moving to read and I learnt something new because I have never heard of this custom before.
Why oh why a KyuSung cliffhanger at the end? My poor heart can't handle the suspense with these two :(

Chapter 5: ***Confetti!***
SO happy that you updated this! :)
Very touching how Donghae asked Min to perform Hwang Jini for his deceased daughter. The scene with the joss papers was very bittersweet, especially with Donghae knowing more about Min's past.
Oh that last part! It's going to be even more difficult for Kyu to get past Yesung's defenses with what the brothers have set up.
Looking forward to the KyuSung <3 !

Hi! I just want to say that you're still a very amazing writer. Your stories never fail to enchant me.
I'm falling in love with this story and I really love the way you write KyuSung^^

Chapter 4: It's really cute that Kyu asking for the privileged to be with Yesung. Since he insecure and much caring about Yesung's feeling then he try to do it formal.
In the other hand Yesung considering about the matter of fact that he can not accept any love cause he himself has many burden on his shoulder already, so poor him.

Chapter 3: I'm really enjoying this! The character development is great - especially this chapter with defiant/cheeky Kyu and aloof/protective Yesung. Interested in learning more about Min's past and more about the lord. Great work!
