Prologue

“It’s getting colder…. don’t you want to go back yet?” I asked then chuckled when she shot me a glare with lips pouting.

“This is so frustrating. I want to see a falling star tonight.”

Stifling a laugh, she grumbled again then pointed up in the starry sky.

“That star over there… can you see that? Why can’t it just fall for me?”

I held the smile she was wearing close to my heart and pondered over the things she wanted. Carelessly, I uttered my thoughts, “What happens to a falling star? Does it cease to exist after it has fallen? If it does…” I directed my thoughts towards her, “You want a star to sacrifice itself so you can make a wish?”

My damsel fell silent as if considering what I said but her eyes sparkled like those distant stars. I sighed regretting for a moment what I asked. I scooted closer to her and reached out to tuck some strands of hair behind her ear but before I could pull my hand away, she caught it and brought it closer to her lips and kissed my knuckles.

Then she gazed back at me, her questioning eyes pierced through my soul. Her lips quivered with a tiny smile as she asked, “Star, are you falling for me?”
